    Quick note just to clarify our comparisons with the TR160 we reviewed 18 months ago. That particular TR160 was a MK2 spec unit. Trak Racer are now up to MK4 so as mentioned in this video, a lot of the improvements we saw here also apply to the newer TR160.

      yes the new tr160 v4 looks pretty solid with the 1 piece rails and 6 rubber feet.
      good price for the unit but the shipping to western australia is $400.
      Whats the best seat to get the rally or get one from another manufacturer.

    Just got my TR120 and built it and happy to report no missing items and very notably no metal shavings. super happy with that

  • @Brendan_A
    @Brendan_A 2 ปีที่แล้ว +28

    I bought a TR120 last year, and my experience was pretty much spot on with the review. the metal shavings are terrible, but all my parts came together. Make sure you are using the right guide for what you ordered, theres a few different ones and if you arent using the right one it gets pretty confusing. Had a couple issues with ordering some extras, with stock not being available and them not telling me until i contacted them, response there could have been a little better. Its my first rig after wanting one for years, and im super happy with it. its rigid, and price is pretty reasonable. im in an owners group, and the owner of trak racer matt is in there and is very active and responsive. He seems to genuinely want to improve some of the few issues ive seen people have. I'm in melbourne so shipping was ridiculously fast on the stuff that was in stock. I dont have anything to compare to, with it being my first rig ever, but i love it, its changed my whole sim experience. used the boosted discount so thanks for that will! would i buy it again? definitely, love supporting aussie companies with good quality

      @@TrakracerAuseems like your order forecasting update hasn't improved the situation.
      Just had dealings with Trak Racer that have had the customer services person despairing about how badly the inventory have been managed. 2.5 weeks after ordering stuff that was supposedly in stock, I find out that it's sold out. Oh, and the TR120 I was offered as a replacement? Also out of stock, but still showing as in stock on the web site.
      Sorry, a company this poor at the basics doesn't deserve people's orders.

      @TrakracerAu ปีที่แล้ว

      @@RacingAnt Are you in New Zealand where we are clearing all of our stock at cost price to exit New Zealand?
      this may be a reason why stock is on shortage. and it does not represent our other 7 warehouses.

    • @RacingAnt

      @@TrakracerAu even when it was clear that stock was sold out, the web site still showed as available. Taking money for a product that the company knowingly cannot supply is dodgy practice. In Australia, it's illegal. Yes, I am in New Zealand. Yes, I've had a refund. But, that's not really good enough. You've just fobbed me off with "we were swamped." Hardly an excuse, never mind an apology. 1 week after I ordered the TR160, I was promised it would be shipped within a day. That's not a company that is in control. For it to then take another week, and another email, to find out I wouldn't get the product is pretty poor by anyone's standards. But to still be offering stock for sale? That's incompetence.

    I just received my TR120 and finished assembling it 2 days ago. I got the red recliner seat with the order. It is absolutely awesome and rock solid. I have Simucube 2 pro and Heusinkveld sprint pedals and I'm totally satisfied with everything about it. Putting it together was a bit annoying and it takes a while but totally worth it. I would highly recommend getting one. Zero complaints from me
    One thing I have to mention is I received all the parts 4 days after I ordered it, and surprised me as how quick I received everything here at Emu plains near Penrith. Totally totally blown away with this cockpit. Can you tell im stoked :)

    I've got a TR80 with integrated monitor mount i've had for close to a year now, I had a pretty seamless experience putting it together, everything came as it should. Can confirm the rally seat is pretty good. The seat slider was pretty ordinary though, had quite a bit of slop in it so I just binned it and hard mounted the brackets to the rig. Fixed up a lot of lateral play too. I have the OG basic pedal deck running VRS pedals, I dont have any observable flex in it either and they're comparable to the HE Ultimates.
    I know people have had issues with TR in the past, and occasionally still have missing bits, but they are pretty great value for us Aussies and they've at least tried and continue to try to improve the product and experience and thats not something you see all the time.
    It's a good prodcut, but as you said, gotta do your research, some regions have freight carriers that are pretty trash in specific locations so you need to factor in your local freight company too, not a TR issue obviously, but something that impacts it in some way.

    Tr120 owner, very happy with it. Worth mentioning they sent me a wrong part but corrected it relatively quickly. A mate who also bought one also had an issue with what was delivered. They respond to correcting the errors but quite clearly the company has an issue with its shipping process. Not such a huge issue here in Australia but if you were ordering from somewhere else it could potentially mean a long delay before you can build your rig.

    Bought a TR120 at the beginning of this year after a bad experience with a Next Level Racing GT Track. Everything arrived in Brisbane in 3 days and nothing was missing. Didn’t even have any metal shavings in the profile. I can’t speak highly enough of the cockpit. It can be difficult to get someone on the phone at times but otherwise I’m very happy with Trak Racer. I had the instructions printed and bound at Officeworks for about $15. Made it so much easier than reading on a phone.

    I've had my TR120 for just over a week now, and i had a couple of nuts missing from the peddle plate(or i used more then expected),I also went with the black and red recliner seat. And I found that the whole rig is rock solid for me. But I did notice that I didn't get that extra brackets that where mentioned 21:24, so i guess that they are very new and i hope you will be able to be purchase them separately in the future, (as i was looking at add motion system in the future).

    I just got the TR120 myself about 2 weeks ago. it's my first sim rig. I went with the black recliner seat. I was missing some hardware and got a few mismatched parts. But I actually got an email from the owner of TrakRacer with his phone number. He and the head of support rectified the situation over the phone extremely fast as well as gave some compassion for having to wait a few days.
    The only problem I had was with the seat mounting. It says to make 350mm distance for the seat slide and seat to sit on. If you got a recliner seat and the bracket underneath it, the 350mm is too narrow. My recommendation is if you're going this route, just screw the mount to the seat itself. mount the sliders to the bottom of the mount. Then while leaving the 40x40 tracks assembled but loose put the seat, bracket, and rails on the 40x40 pieces and get them fitting together. with your 40x40 rails still loose, find the perfect middle fit. this could also mean that you will have to loosen up the rails to get everything dead center. The only reason why I'm writing this all out is because I spent many hours assembling and disassembling the seat bracket and rails while leaving the 350mm distance between the two 40x40 profile pieces in place (as it's literally one of the only 2 actual measurements you get in the instructions). I Just remeasured this as I'm typing this out and it's about 325mm from inside 40-40 to the other. another thing I did differently from the instructions was to put the L braces that holds the 40x40 from the inside to the outsides. makes adjustments easier and I think just looks nicer. you're going to have to cut the red strip about 70 mm shorter to fit inside the 2 L brackets but again I really like and think this is the way it should have been in the instructions.
    I just wish I had the ability to post a picture of this all incase someone else out there finds themselves in the same situation I was in. besides that. the mount is solid (well everything on the TR120 is pretty solid), you will get some vibrations throughout the rig but I again kinda like it. makes it feel more immersing.

    I bought the TR120 about 3 weeks ago. It was simple but time consuming to put it together and we were short 4 bolts and washers but fortunately I had some from my old rig at the house. Without them I would have been pissed. Also of note when our stuff arrived the bags holding the bolts and what not had holes in them. The rig itself is awesome and doesnt move. the seat I have was from the old rig and not a bucket so seatback movement is definitely an issue lol. Looking to get a Sparco in the future. Just bought my TR120 rig upgrading from a NLR GT Ultimate V2. Seat flex was a big thing I didn’t like and wanted to eliminate it. So purchased an OMP TRS-E fixed back race seat with steel frame on OMP seat mounts. The seat is super rigid and very little flex in the seat mounts. Mounted it to the provided sliding rails and I’m pretty pleased. I may remove the rails and bolt straight to the chassis as I begin my test phase.

    I got mine a few months ago, All 13 boxes and contents arrived present and correct. There was a fair bit of swarf with the profiles but I unwrapped onto painter's drop-sheets so no problem really. Assembly was straight forward completed in about one relaxed day. There were a few times when I was glad I have good experience with constructing stuff. because there were plenty of traps for new starters, most of which I avoided.
    My only gripe is that because I want to use my rig as part of my daughters driving training starting soon, I got the recliner seat and adjustable slider option. This ended up about 40mm too high for me. It would be nice to drop the two 40 x 40mm mount rails down flush with the top of the rigs main base frames. Future project.
    The recliner seat has some flex under hard braking but not enough to be a problem. I use V3 pedals with the enhancement kit hard option.
    I'd recommend the TR120 to any serious sim addict, but would also say if you don't have good practical skills and experience, get help from a friend who does before you start assembly. (Or, watch Will's vids CAREFULLY).
    And lastly, most of the fastenings can be re-tightened after a few hours of heavy kerb work with the DD cranked up and rattling away. BUT. the ones on the inside of the DD base require the removal of the wheel base itself to re-tighten. therefore NOT accessible for periodic maintenance! Perhaps a thread sealant here? Locktight? Just be sure to torque em up good first time round,
    Edited to be more useful to someone wanting to buy. Cheers and good luck.

    I got 2 TR120's a month ago and so far they have been great. The only tiny issues I ran into were one of the rigs came with not enough bolts and washers, and a couple of the instruction steps had minor mistakes. I also have had the monitor mounts on backorder for over a month but will hopefully be dispatched soon.
    However once setup, it is an awesome looking rig with no flex at all. I got mine with the reclinable seats and haven't really noticed any flex or movement in the seat apart from the minimal flex of the seat rails which is to be expected.
    Overall I'm happy with the purchase and would recommend the TR120 to anyone.

    I got the TR160 about a year ago with the GT style seat and I have to say my experience with that seat is completely different to yours Will. Mine is really rigid and the back doesn't have that pop that yours has. I use the Asetek Invicta pedals too so I put quite a bit of force into the back. All I can think of is maybe you got a dodgy seat or they have changed the seat somehow because mine barely moves. As for the rest of my rig everything came complete, no missing parts and I even had a heap of extra bolts and T-Nuts left over....and no I didn't forget any :) All in all I couldn't be happier with mine and the customer service I got was perfect. I'm starting to sound like I work there huh....(I definitely don't). Anyway great review Will & Tom. Keep it up boys.

      I've had my TR80 for about the same length of time with the GT seat and I have the same issue with the seat popping. I did notice if I change my seating angle and pedal placement I can mitigate it to some degree. This made the pushing force lower down on the seat rather than in the mid back where it pops. My brother has an NRG seat which he found on sale for $300 or so and it is significantly more rigid with support across the back.

    I had my TR120 delivered in 4 days between Christmas and New Years. All bits were there (I do agree that they could mark the boxes more clearly with the items). I used my own seat and regret that, but I’ll be updating that into the future. Yes there was some metal shavings but I took those boxes outside and cleaned it with compressed air. Sorted.

  • @arg1051
    @arg1051 2 ปีที่แล้ว +4

    I'm in the US. Their products come in many different packages from different carriers and most of the pieces were damaged, scratches and dents, only cosmetic but makes it all look like it's used material from a machine shop. Metal shavings everywhere too. The boxes they were packed in had holes allowing many of the required fasteners to be lost. One package was lost in shipping. I ended up spending 40 bucks on fasteners to put it together which added 2 extra weeks of wait ultimately.
    Their customer service in the US is non existent it seems. You can't get in contact with anyone unless you wage a one man social media guerilla war for a few days and then suddenly they become concerned about their image. I eventually did a call from a US representative, a VP actually. He was very apologetic, he helped me out by issuing a refund.
    Once put together, the product has okay stiffness and stability. I have the Moza R21 on their supposedly most stable/stiff chasis the TR 160 Mk4, and even with everything tightened and in place there's still some movement in the arms supporting the wheelbase. Not entirely satisfied there as this is supposed to take 25+ Nm, and my R21 can only put out 21Nm. The adjustability could also be better, but I think that's just the nature of using these materials to ensure stability band stiffness. It generally takes 2 people to move the wheel deck up and or when changing the tilt angle, same for positioning the pedal plate.
    I also got their single monitor stand and it is very unstable and entirely unusable with a G49 monitor.
    I would rate the chassis itself, the TR160 mk 4 at a 7/10, their customer service and availability 1/10, and monitor stand maybe 3/10.

    Just got my TR120 together, working a few hours a day over 2 or 3 days. I wasn't a fan of the manual, TBH -- but it's not really needed. Really just needed to glance at a photo now and then to see what major parts go where -- It was easy enough to figure the rest out on your own. My only regret is that, as far as I could see, TR didn't seem to offer a cheaper version of the cockpit triple mount without the VESA mounting hardware -- all of which wasn't needed since I got the Vario Vesa kit from Sim Lab (TR was sold out)

  •  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    @46:44 the side to side lateral seat rail movement is more pronounced with motion. It dampens some of the motion or gives undesired movement.
    Typically we suggest to our clients that they to run a couple of custom cut, extruded aluminum pieces from the right to left side mounts OR as you recommended, a solid mount is best and simple if you do not need a slider. 👍

    Good to know that shavings in/on profiles seems to be an industry thing. Just got my ASR rig the other day, and a couple supplemental pieces from TNutz. Both had shavings. On one had, I think it’s poor form to ship components in that state. However, I do recognize the added costs to cleaning the profiles before packaging. But my goodness, I would gladly pay them an extra $10 for 5 minutes of blasting all the extrusions with some shop air to get rid of at least most of the shavings. I’ve worked in machine shops before. Those shavings get everywhere and it’s hard to completely clean them up, especially on rugs, carpet, etc.

    • @TrakracerAu
      @TrakracerAu 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      to eliminate shavings it's a different process of cut, colour and wrap. Instead of colour, wrap (so scratching) then cut. It's all possible, the cost will increase as a result which we will consider.

    My experience with delivery from TR is not as good. No estimated delivery time, no notification when the items were dispatched, no information about how many boxes I should expect, and the order was delivered as three different courier deliveries. I'm still waiting for a response from TR to confirm whether I've received all boxes (SKUs), so I'll have to begin assembly in good hope that I've received all required parts. TR doesn't pick up tge phone or return calls for messages left on the answering machine either. No one is available for online chat either. Looks like a ghost company, so be aware before buying from them.

    Great review as usual Will. I hope all those profile improvements have carried over to the TR160 MK4, as I pre-ordered one a couple of weeks ago and have just found out they won't have any local stock (NZ) till mid-august, which is a bummer, as I wanted it especially for winter.
    I also ordered the universal seat bracket for recline seats and office chairs, so I can bolt my Noblechairs Hero seat to it (as I am 6'4" 100kg ). It is a big and comfortable seat with adjustable lumbar support like car seat (which is comfortable for me to sit in for several hours at a time). I also ordered the new hybrid formula/ GT/inverted pedal plate kit for it - would be great if Trak Racer sent you one of those to test as well.

    Picked one of these up a few months ago and used your discount code! Cheers for that. Bit of a mission to put together in terms of adjust ability (there is A LOT). But its a great "problem" to have. One or two things wrong with their manual, but easily sorted once you get your head wrapped around it. Amazing rig at a great price. I picked up a second hand fixed back seat (Cobra) that i used Rpm brackets on the supplied sliders. I have zero issues with mine. So i'd suspect its the supplied rails and cheap seat (which you pay a premium for). I have basically non existent flex.

    I have for a year a tr 160. The extra keyboard mouse tray is a bit flimsy and it came with a non threaded piece, after some back and forth with the Customer Service ( 1 guy ? :P) I got sent a replacement threaded piece to finish the tray. Building it was hell and took for ever but after building it I haven't touched it for a year and it is as solid as it gets. At my heaviest I was 125kg and the rig does not care about that at all and the rally seat fit me fine.
    The nice looking floor mat is actually too small for the rig. So that was a bit of a let down and for some reason I only got a fully black rig and no of the nice red accent colors...

    Nice Review! I have an NLR FGT Elite rig and I love it. Solid as a rock and no flex. With these aluminum extrusion rigs in general is real world flex really ever an issue?. I find it hard to believe given the nature of aluminum profile itself that that would be an issue in any of these rigs.

It took me 12hours by reasambling the rig 3 times due to unmarked parts. I'm even thinking to release the TR120 Manual walk through to help others. Despite all issues its amazing but would never ever build one again. When buying T120 You need to add just the bracket for bucket seat that's the only thing not included. It might be included if you order TR seat. But would recommend to spend few quid more to get bespoke seat of your liking. Because TR seats are gaming seats when a real bucket seat is real and you can get one for anything from 300-600 which is the same range for TR Seats which are just a gaming seat really.

      I believe it is an additional 300 AUD for the monitor stand. Only critical parts remaining are your monitor, pedals, wheel base & wheel, shifter & handbrake, all of these vary enormously in pricing. In order to make use of such a rigid base, I'd imagine you'd be spending close to an additional 2000 - 3000 AUD. Unless second hand, if you are spending any less, you can happily buy a smaller less rigid & cheaper base frame
