My dad got a super a awhile go and the vertical shaft has A LOT of vertical play and im trying to figure out whats wrong with it because i dont want to have it apart for months(no room in garage) it seems the only thing stoping it from dropping out is the axle
This was a problem with the 140 as well. The factory fix was to weld the gear to the shaft, I have done that many times and never had an issue doing so.

Its usually a combo of the bearing, the key way and the bolt that goes through the shaft .

Yeah you can absolutely weld it up tight but it will make future repairs a little more difficult when other parts wear out.
