That's the secret ingredient of the best ghost stories.
The Innocents is perhaps the greatest horror movie to have ever hit the screen. It's from the 60's, but can still compete with films much younger. No jump scares (startling moments, but not the cheesy kind) and no gore. It's just a remarkably eerie ghost story that I can sit and watch over and over again.
I'm definitely watching it. Wasn't sure if to watch or not. But now I'm more certain. Thank you!
Then I HIGHLY recommend Haunting Of Bly Manor and it’s predecessor- Haunting of Hill House.
That's because it's based on the novel, the turn of the screw
Its not that scary though. So its a little hard calling it the best horror movie if it struggles to be scary.

When I was in high school I was charged in making the story of a play that falls in an eerie/horror genre. So for inspiration I started looking for music that fits the vibe for inspiration. O Willow Waly and A Prelude to a Nightmare Kiddie Land is what stuck to me. Even after all these years I still listen to these beautiful masterpieces. I wish more people knew about this.

In the Haunting of Bly Manor (Netflix’s new show) it’s actually used in a reallly depressing way. You should check it out. It’s more sad than scary
I’ve seen it when it premiered here down under not too long ago actually.
I agree, it’s unlike a typical horror movie but more so of a dragged on version of the haunting hill.
Many of the acting especially when it neared the last x3 episodes got more and more mediocre imho, especially with talents that have shown in the past that their range impeccable. Sadly that wasn’t shown here for said people.
I personally didn’t enjoy haunting of bly manor as much as the haunting hill since that was 👌🏼 very well done.
Also, seeing Netflix recycle ♻️ cast in this level is personally not my thing tbh. Which is the very reason(s) why Haunting of Bly Manor will be remembered by me and my circles as a meh flick sadly. Ironic really. They made a very somber meh feeling show which will be remembered just that at best imo.
