Thanks for the follow-up video and answering my question on Instagram! I installed mine last weekend and have pretty much the same issues that you mentioned. One thing I did want to add was, I bought mine from Seicane on eBay. Same unit as yours and the price was $319 plus $80 shipping. I received from China in about 9 days.
I put in an order on their website 2 weeks ago and still haven't received it. You're so lucky! They screwed up one shipment already and had to reship... I hope they didn't screw me up :)

OK I have had this radio a couple of weeks. Great investment! I added a hotspot in the glovebox to get full internet functionality . I am having to add an amp under the dash to get the subwoofer to work ...no problem there, again thanks for sharing this and I highly recommend!

Any word on sound quality difference of stock sahara sub system after the install? Better or worse? Does the sub continue to function as it should?
I've been reading many negative reviews of Seicane head units? It's been 4 years Dex. I'm about to drop some cash on a unit with a brand name vs. this one. I binged your videos today and this might be what I spend money on. Brand name or this? Be honest and thanks for the top-notch production value to your videos. I know what kind of time it takes to make these videos and it is very much appreciated.
Your very welcome. For a few hundred bucks, this is a good upgrade. The software is great for android users and it’s average for iPhone users. It’s definitely an upgrade from the tiny U-Connect screen but it does have its flaws. It can be slow/glitchy, not perfect for iPhones, too many unnecessary apps. Hope that helps!

You don't need it, you can play xm from their app on your phone, and play it through Bluetooth! It's the exact same thing!

I decided to research the company first and it seems like they are still a young upstart company w less than desirable support, hearing some apps were pirated, and the duty issue makes me uneasy. Hey Dex I am a new subscriber and this is a great review. I was wondering if the USB port in the center console will work with this headunit for music streaming and if it would work with an AUX cable for the same reason.

Your channel is awesome you answers a lot of questions and cool things and add ons I would like to put on my Jeep in the near future but I was wondering what's a good alarm system for your Jeep I have a 2016 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited and we're looking into buying an alarm system for it cuz somebody already tried to break into it and it would be a good investment if I'm put a lot fun toys in it and on it but we want a alarm system that were able to take the doors off and the top off and still have the alarm on and working what alarm system do you recommend

Anthony Ochoa viper makes a great alarm system and you can add a "proximity sensor" or a motion detector (that works with and plugs into the alarm) so when the doors and top are off you still have security.

Android vs iOS is like starting a war in the comments section. I've worked on development in both operating systems and my conclusion is: it doesn't matter what I think lol. Use what you like. 😂 😂

So have you replaced and updated your sound system since adding this radio? I have two subs, an Amp, and changed out my interior speakers.. I wanna know if this radio will work with these upgrades

matt otto I have a 2016 wrangler jk sport with the stock radio and I have the same problem when I watch music videos it lags for about 10 seconds .. Pisses me off lol
When I listen music via Bluetooth on my stock radio, no lags/delays, only when I tried to watch video on my phone and have the audio via Bluetooth... With this head, I just watch the video on the unit itself.. so no lags in video/audio at all!!!

One thing you failed to mention is audio quality. I'm a bit of an audiophile. I would to know how it sounds. Also, did you replace the stock speaker? My next big upgrade is audio. Leaning toward Kenwood right now. and replacing all 4 speakers with polypropylene cones. But alas 9k for windows and 4K for landing to the house is a buzzkill.

The audio quality is pretty awful in the new unit. I thought it would be at least better than the stock hu. I installed JBL speakers in the front and rear about a month ago so I know its not the speakers. Could it be I need an amp? Currently I do not have one installed, how is audio quality on yours and do you have an amp?? Thanks
Are you playing through bluetooth? The bluetooth is terrible but playing sound directly from the unit is good.
Matt Kersten yeah I found that Bluetooth is absolute ass but even with Spotify downloaded music with extreme quality has a slight white noise. Almost like static. I read it is because of the radio antenna interfering with it. I'm going to try to unplug it and see if that does anything
@@HP-mi3bv should I avoid this unit if I have an iPhone, even though it has a carplay dongle. Not happy about you have crappy audio.
bought one for my 2012 jk, there is no sd card reader just a slot! had to pull dash back out to retrieve sd card.
it will play iso dvd files off flash drive with a converter program Brorsoft dvd ripper!
over all well worth 500 bucks!

Nice job on this review! Frankly, I was a little skeptical how detailed you'd be, but this is great. Can you clarify, is this on Android 5 or 6? Seems to be advertised as "on the latest Android 6.0" but there's been some feedback that it isn't. And have you seen updates to the OS since you've had it? Thanks again.

Dex, thanks for the review. I know you said the volume and the skip work but the you weren't sure of the uconnect system, does that mean that I can not make hands free calls from the steering wheel? Also, while this is a steel for 500, would you recommend getting this or would you say save some money and get something different?

The call button on the wheel works, it'd make calls via Bluetooth to your phone as Uconnet does. That's the first thing I tested.

Anyone complaining about this not being apple, is like complaining the touch screen on your refrigerator isn't apple. Apple doesn't, and never will make anything like this.

80% of the phones in the world run on android. 85% of computers/laptops run on windows (6% on Linux so apple's only ~10%) So no, obviously, there's not a lot more people that are using apple products. Edit: Plus, there's no way apple would let this company use their software.....

bobcanish first yes majority use android, but probably 80% of those are older, cheap models that are prepaid and wouldn’t be compatible any way.
@@LoveTwoRoastYou ios is the same os just with added features. we call them SDK's in dev world. but since you brought that up. android is bleeding edge. a 5 year old android software is comparable to last year's ios. but sure. its called Psychological Pricing, apple is amazing at this
They sell Carplay modules now that allow for Apple Car Play and Android from the same unit... havent tried it just found it while researching this headunit (including finding this and the other videos... )
for mirroring put your phone screen on landscape and it will fill out the screen.. there is even and app for android phone that will do it automatically...

Android enjoyed an 87 percent share of the global market in 2019, while Apple's iOS holds a mere 13 percent. Loka around you, not everyone is an apple fanboi. Android is not an CON for me. BTW -- excellent review! I plan on buying this head unit. Please keep videos coming.

How well is the screen visible when the jeep is topless with the screen in full sun? Or have there been any scenarios where it is difficult to see the screen?
The screen can be slightly hard to see when topless but the brightness does auto adjust so it helps! The screen is glossy so it does glare sometimes! Thanks for watching!
what is the start up time on this unit, is it fairly instant? and what is the sound quality from the decks amplifier , loudness and quality?
I am overall happy with it. It is not the fastest boot up ever but not slow. The sound quality is great maybe slightly better than stock. Thanks for watching!

What is the brand of this unit? I watched your install of the seicane unit sometime ago. Whatever happened to that unit. Did it fail, if it did what happened because I was going to purchase that brand for my Rubicon.

I have a smaller android stereo installed in my jeep like this and the audio level is different based on the source. For example, music from apple phone over bluetooth requires the audio turned up very high compared to the radio as a source. Does this head unit have any audio level issues like this?
Great Question, not really it is pretty consistent. Sometimes the radio is slight louder but it is definitely not a big difference. Thanks for watching!
What launcher do you use? Just got mine in the mail works perfect but hate the layout and feel of it. It was preinstalled with launcher3 and it sucks.

Hi Dex, how would install this unit with clarion equalizer. What would the main output be. It is CVBS for main output.
Didn't the GPS cable that you plugged into the back of the unit have a big pod on the end of it with 3M tape on the back? How were you able to get the pod at the end of the GPS wire up through the driver's side A pillar? I just bought this unit and am a little confused with that.
I ran the GPS up the A pillar behind the plastic trim and left it at the height point away from any of the metal. Hope that helps!

So when you say Sirius doesn't work, are you referring to the app or are you speaking of Sirius radio in general?

I'm confused what you mean by having to connect the head unit to Wifi or a hotspot to use the internet. So does that mean every time I want to use google on it, I would first have to connect it to my phone's personal hotspot?

Hey man I have it installed but I can’t get it to play music through my phone through the USB cables it came with. Does yours work with the USB? The only way Im able to play music from my phone is through Bluetooth.

How long does this radio take to start up? I heard that it sits there displaying "android" for a while, and that it takes like 30 seconds to start up. That seems like a while to me, is that true?

there should be a setting that put the until on sleep mode that will have an instant wakeup... some until you can have it on sleep for 24 hours before it shut itself off, if it shut itself off a cold boot would be about 20 to 30 second if you got a quad core cpu unit with 1 gb of ram
btw if you are plannning to buy an android unit today look for the one that have an octa core cpu 2 gb of ram and 32 gb of memory
I just bought 1gb kia sorento 10.1 inch screen. Do u think I should return it. It might run slow and laggy. I noticed all TH-camrs have 4gb model and there screen runs smoothly.

How is the screen dimming in complete darkness. Like being on a backroad w/o oncoming headlights. And unit not being a distraction light wise

for this unit to run apple ui it would have to pay a licensing fee to Apple,which would bring the price up considerably . The android ui is pretty well free or very low cost so that is why it is android based.

When you get home connect to your wifi network.
You can do most things over Bluetooth.
Well Dex, I’m afraid you let me down. If this is the seicane unit, mine is crap. It looks awesome but it freezes up, won’t run sound thru my phone calls so my hands free doesn’t work. The customer service is problematic with time difference but that’s expected, however their only answer was to download an update of which the head unit will not read...so no update for me. Waiting for a refund but only after they receive it via snail mail.
2:57 That was an easy out, Google maps suck off line. There are so many off line maps like Gaia maps, OSM and Wikiloc. Each could be their own video mind you. I think I will do that myself.

I'm reading that Seicane as a company doesn't assume responsibility or account for the duty tax in their pricing. Read a testimony from a buyer in Canada who said that they were hit with a $200 Bill for duty tax long after he purchased a unit. I hope this doesn't happen to you Dex, but if it does, please let us know. I'm curious as to what the duty tax for a U.S. buyer is...

Nick Stidham This whole "sponsor me" mentality that ppl have taken to is getting detrimental to "Jeep Life". I don't think some ppl grasp the concept of being sponsored & the commitments attached. Some seem to be under the impression that they can build a rig for free and companies are just giving away sponsorships & merchandise. I've seen ppl w/ bone stock Jeeps literally hunting & begging for sponsors...doesnt quite work like that. One way was via social media, amass a huge following and offer content that turns out views &:that doesn't really cut it anymore because that route is now oversaturated. In my experience, No company is going to sponsor someone w/ a stock Jeep & fork over parts to build from scratch. Tbh, it's usually the people that have fully modded, high profile rigs that really don't need a sponsor that get offered sponsorships. I dumped a good 20k+ into my build before someone offered me a sponsorship & that comes with having to travel x country to major events, meets & trade shows, whether it be Jeep Beach, SEMA, EJS, to play ambassador and showcase their products. It isn't as glorious as some make it out to be. Actually, there may be more cons than pros to being sponsored. It can restrict you from running certain products because one company may be affiliated w/ 3 others so there's often conflicts of interest. Transamerican for example, owns Smittybilt, Pro Comp & G2...if your sponsored by Pro Comp wheels & you want to run RCV Axel shafts and Yukon gears, guess what? You may not be able to do so because their G2 division makes shafts & gears.

No the head unit is pretty water resistant, I’ve got mine soaking wet before!!
Hello I would like to know if the unit that you have is the Seicane 10.1" unit because I sent them an email and this radio does not have a SD slot on the side . Also I know this unit has a RCA plug for the sub woofer but my jeep 2016 rubicon has the alpine
system with sub woofer in the rear floor and the plug has no RCA plug will the woofer that I have plug into on of the plugs on the unit

the sd card can be use by getting a cheap $5 adapter to your usb port...but why do that, you can connect a 2 terabyte hard to the usb port and have your entire DVD collection in your jeep while you out camping...
Can you show how you ran and use the usb ports in the glove box?
