The chart really brings it all together at the end. Very interesting. Thanks for creating it.

I appreciate that! I spent several hours during a car ride coming up with the concepts. I crunched the numbers when I got home. Yesterday we got everything into charts for TH-cam.

another factor is what happens in each system when you're at 0HP; loving these comparison videos thank you so much.

That is a very good point. D&D and Pathfinder have you unconscious, while DC20 has you still playing the game.
Pathfinder and DC20 give a penalty for being at 0, while D&D does not which leads to the notorious yoyo healing. Well, Healing Word has a lot to do with that too.
      Thank you for your comment!

    Great analysis!

Thank you! I went pretty crunchy on this one. I was kind of surprised by the outcome including D&D2024 beating Pathfinder 2 (when looking at raw numbers).
You can also see where D&D2014 scales terribly.

@@RollWithUsDMs my impression overall has been that healing in combat is more effective in DC20, and I think your analysis goes in that direction. Cool stuff!

Thank you for commenting! Next spell video will be Fog Cloud. The comparisons are interesting.

Another factor in the poor scaling on D&D and Pathfinder is the massive HP scaling. 17x to 14x increase over level 1, where DC20 is closer to 4x

Thank you for your comment. Yeah, Coach has done a good job keeping the numbers small, which keeps the heal spell relevant throughout.

At least in path2e, I've not played DND in a long time, the damage scales accordingly, so the spell keeps its usefulness mainly the same through all levels. Also, a dedicated cleric would have healing hands, increasing the heal to an average of a point per spell lv - not much, but a D10 always looks better than a d8 . Also,I prefer the healing to be better at low levels, once you're normally at a greater risk of dying at lower levels, and at the higher levels you can endure more have other tools, etc

Thank you for your very well thought out reply.
I play all 3 systems, and I have been impressed by the healing that is capable in Pathfinder 2e, both magical and mundane. And you are absolutely correct that class features will boost healing.
For this video, I really wanted to dive into just the spells themselves. That required leaving out things like the Life Domain Cleric in 5e.
I plan to do a video at some point talking about the healers kit, healers tools, first aid kit and the mundane healing that can be accomplished in the 3 systems.
I think the next spell comparison is going to be Fog Cloud/Mist, which is actually more interesting than I had first thought. Look for that within a week.

Im loving these spell comparison videos with DC20, keep up the good work.
Bit of critique for this spell analysis.
2014 D&D isnt a given a fair shake i. this analysis due to bad scaling.
PF2e doesn't have higher level Healing spells, you just have to pick the heightened version at the new level.
in D&D'14 you would pick higher level spells. No way would a healer use 8 lvl slot for cure wounds (41 hp) they would cast Heal (90 hp), or Mass Heal at 9th lvl for 700 hp.
Side note, 2014 is also better at group healing. Prayer of healing is just as good as Cure wounds but for up to 6 creatures.
We dont know what the higher speel will look like for DC20, but i bet they'll be just as good.

Thank you for your well thought out comment. I am glad you are enjoying the content.
While there are higher level spells that can heal in 5e, I chose to focus on just the base spell for each edition. It absolutely would be crazy to cast cure wounds with a 9th level slot instead of casting Mass Heal for 700hp.
My focus with this video though was to see how the standard spell holds up throughout a character’s career.
With that, I was surprised by how well the new PHB Cure Wounds holds up.
The next spell I am working on is Fog Cloud. I think I have a good compilation of the information which should lead to a good video. Look for it soon (probably next Monday unless I release it Wednesday)

@RollWithUsDMs OH can't wait to see the Fog cloud comparison.
I understand wanting to keep to the base spell. I wanted to bring it up because PF2e doesn't have an upcasting mechanic for leveled spells. You have to purposefully pick those spells again at higher levels.
I was also surprised by the new 2024 Cure wounds. This gives me hope that they fixed 5e issue with poor upscaling for spells.
