Yeah, it's a little dated looking now, but it is still a ton of fun to see again. I can't tell you how many hours I sunk into that game back in the day. Besides opening up the Pacific Theater, which was great, it was tons of fun farting around in the what-if stuff too. I still have the original box and CDs floating around here somewhere. Absolutely adored that sim.
Taff, I'm the creator of that Wildcat cockpit mod. I presume your head tracker is 6dof capable. I set up the cockpit class to have an expanded range of movement, such that the player can lean forward until his virtual nose is just a few inches from the gun sight's crash pad. This affords an excellent sight picture, where the full reticle can be seen and the cowling as well, msking gunnery in a turn so much better. Moreover, being able to lean forward (and to the side imultaneously) provides a much better view to the rear. I can see the outer 1/2 or so of the tailplane. Your view here is very much more limited due to remaining leaning back all the time, with your virtual head almost against the headrest. I note that virtually all Il-2 '46 movies have the player failing to take full advantage of their tracker capabilities in terms of translational movement, being content to keep their virtual noggin pretty much stuck in the one place at all times. The resulting self-imposed limitations to both the forward and rearward views is an unnecessary handicap. While watching, I find myself wanting to lean so as to obtain a better view! 😊 Cheers! Glenn
11:33 great kill I rewatched that a couple times! He didn’t even have time to see you come in until it was too late! I bet they would show that gun recording in a debriefing or a training conference for sure! That’s why we watch you Taff! You’re an excellent combat pilot!
I still love watching IL-2 1946, I can still remember when I was too poor to have a decent computer to play it when I was a kid, loved watching it, still do!
This is excellent, utterly fantastic taff, this is my 3nd all time fav air combat sim game after the IL-2 great battles, clocked so many hours in this it's impossible for me to count. You'd be excellent in a series of this, you really ought to try.. of course that's your choice but seriously.. You'd be epic in this series. Pacific fighters mod, that's exactly what I have.. so.. excellent to share that with you. Love the F4F Wildcat.. just love it so much, had more fun with that I've lost count. Thanks for posting this on, was utterly fantastic, loved it..we all did.. give the campaign a try some time, thanks again 👏 👍
Pacific fighters was my second ww2 flying game and i loved it, i had a A6M2-N rufe campaigne and a Ki61 campaine back in thenday, i didn't have a joystick but the keyboard did just fine then
Taff, you're such a reckless hero! You made your first three strafing runs again 'the carriers' without releasing your drop tanks! Legend! I play this game, I know how easy it is to get killed in it. And this 11:36
Great landing. With no LSO!? It took me forever to land on the carrier in Microsoft Combat sim Pacific. Loved the Hellcat >P-38 would kill you in a dive, Zero climbed like the homesick angel. Pretty accurate flying. Try an Immelman on the zeros when they climb.
In the US Navy you try for the 3rd arrestor wire from the stern as that is considered a perfect landing, even today they hold this tradition when it comes to carrier landings. Don't know about the British RN or IJN if they had something similar or not.
I think Taff is justified in taking the attitude that a good landing is one you can walk away from, a great one is when they can use the plane afterwards!
Wow, Taff! Well done! Refuel and rearm for the second sortie to go after that last carrier, all you need is 2 more Zeros and you'll be a double ace in a day! Fantastic! Are you sure this was Midway and not the Mariana's Turkey Shoot? Lol!
TAFF, I still have mine installed. Love it. Even if it's a little old for today's standards. Have you ever tried the 'Enterprise Campaign'? Every now and then I have to play through it lol.
I’d get a bit higher angle of attack on your landing. Good job but you were pretty much scraping the stern on contact. In reality if you had one good swell or a gust you might have been decorating the stern.
@@michaelbourgeault9409 When you're flying on fumes, unsure if you're undercarriage is down, you're flaps look like Swiss cheese, and you're trying to land on a smoking flattop with the wind in a hurricane - nothing worse than then discovering you're trying to land on a goat...
This game is fun but the numbers are not too scale. The amount of aircraft were double this and much more important. The US was losing the war addict the Japanese for the furst 1 1/2 years until Guadual island /henderson field and Guadalcanal/the slot battle. We took the initiative away from the IJN
Just imagine we could have been playing this in beautiful craphics in IL-2 Sturmovik....But instead...we get to fly fighting in 15 identical BF109 versions over the same identical russian steppes over and over again...
YES! It's the return of the combat-sim King! So many amazing memories with this LEGENDARY game!
I’d love to see you do a playthrough of one of the USN campaigns, maybe as a Dauntless pilot starting at the Coral Sea!
Agreed, would like to see that
100% would love to see it

A favorite tactic of Zeros was to zoom climb. They'd wait for the Wildcat to stall and drop on it's tail.
You fell for it. Nice job on evading.

You deserve more upvotes, sir! Thanks for the info - Here's hoping Taff sees it!
Pacific Fighters was my first in the series as well. I remember becoming a triple ace in a Wildcat.

Really wish they would do a great battles version of the pacific
Have you heard about Combat Pilot?
I liked that sigh of relief, at the end. :)
This was a great mission.
Well done on that carrier landing could feel the concentration lol
Great video as always mate
That "phew!" from him after he landed
Please do a campaign on this either German British or any other country I have yet to see a solid campaign done one il21946
damm that tbf at the 2 min mark... that pilot just bellyflopped like a badass
Appreciate you Taff! The F4F is one of my favorite aircraft ^-^
Taff, I have enjoyed you easygoing, upbeat videos for a while and finally wanted to say thanks. Godspeed pommy.
Been watching your gameplay for a little bit man. Good show, and excellent job on the carrier landing too! Hurry and get the next video out!
I still love watching IL-2 1946, I can still remember when I was too poor to have a decent computer to play it when I was a kid, loved watching it, still do!
You were proud of that landing Taff 😊😊😊
Back in the air! Good fight and perfect landing.

Love the IL-2 1946 content, especially some pacific action.
Your Wildcat might be more suited to boom and zoom attacks against the more agile Zeros.
Good times, I played it a lot back in the day. I still consider it to be the best WW2 sim.
thank you Taff, that was fun

Interesting to see enemy AI doing hammerhead stalls for evassiane and attacks.
That was a fun watch. Thanks.
Spent plenty of a good time on the Zekes and Wildcats server back in the day. I still play this t when I get the itch for the pacific.
"Mabel Leader to Hustlers, Let's break them up!"
"Is he on my tail? ... YES he is!" 👍
As always another Great video
Best WII sim out there! Good stuff!
My favorite IL-2 Sturmovik 1946 campaign is as a F4F pilot in Coral Sea and Midway
Great one again fantastic

Always a good day when you look up and see taff in the skies above you.

"This is the tower. Go ahead, you're cleared for landing"
Goes with other immortal post-landing lines like: "I'd just like to say 'Good luck', we're all counting on you."...
@@papasmurfette007 That was exactly the scene that came to mind when I heard the landing clearance.
I know things in the Java Sea are looking grim as of late but I hope you fight on.
Here, here!

Somewhere in the Pacific...that narrows it down. ;-)
Kinda... By like 50% 🙃
😂
eXcellent 1946 is still the game. 👍512
I'd love an IL2-1946 Pacific career oO
Dogfighting a Zero is a matter best left to a F6F Hellcat
The only threat to the Zero in dogfight was the FM-2.
I’d get a bit higher angle of attack on your landing. Good job but you were pretty much scraping the stern on contact. In reality if you had one good swell or a gust you might have been decorating the stern.
This would be a great series Taff.
you've got awsome clips! what kind of trackir do you use?
Do you have any mods installed for this? I know the vanilla game has a US Navy and Marine Corps career campaign but I wasn’t sure if there was more.
"Battlefield" a great but old series on WW II is available now on You Tube.
Your game looks beautiful, what mods do you use?
He says at the very end, friend ;)
Please, pretty please do a campaign. In my opinion the campaigns in this game feel so much more dynamic for some reason compared to the newer ones.
Nice Video, Thanks Taft
Would love to a BPF F-4U!
Good job catching that wire with no flaps.
Great video taff please do il-2 campaign (His majesty griffons).
Good work keep it up but would like to see some of your old stuff again like the bus driver please.
this was my favorite campaign in IL2 1946 sturmovik.
but to play this i had to learrn takeoff and landing for 1 month but worth it
Love this sim.......
Which modpack did you use?
I think it was either incredibly brave or incredibly foolish of the IJN to basically paint giant bullseyes on the decks of their aircraft carriers.
national recognition symbol - to make it easier to separate the sheep from the goats

Still more enjoyable gameplay than great battles.
I remember only the horrible downloading procedure, indtalling a nightmare, buggy, and caused even a bsod..did they improve?
hey bro how would i go about playing dcg by lowingrin with bat? or is there other modpacks i dont know about?
Do the japanese in War on the Sea know that you're moonlighting?? 😅
👀
WTF! Wheels down, Tailhook down, Flaps down.... 🤠
hello...anyone knows which modpack is Taff using?
What mods are being used?
Is this a mission you built or is it in the sim ? If so, where ?
YES!!!

which mods r u using?
is this vanilla gameplay ?
Does anyone know what mods taff is using ?
So, I guess IL-2 1946 is still the best flight sim for PTO air combat?
Wildcats and Hellcats were so sexy.
Way too shallow of an approach. Catching the 1 wire like that is dangerous heh. You almost drilled right into the fantail.
What's the point of the two-minute long video before the video actually starts?
That's what happens when you don't have escorts.
War on the Sea Music :)
So no mods?
US Navy is dry 🤣🤣🤣
No beers for you sonny jim. 😢😢😢
I think the AI was joking with you. :)
Hello im a IL2 Sturmovik player and i want to play online with other players ik how but with really big servers does anyone know?
Just imagine we could have been playing this in beautiful craphics in IL-2 Sturmovik....But instead...we get to fly fighting in 15 identical BF109 versions over the same identical russian steppes over and over again...
What game is this?
Alfie West has nothing on you.
the campaign's are a little too limited for my tastes but its still damn fun
Liked the game but the marksmanship was terrible.
У ф4ф флайтмодель не правильная.
Do a IL2 flying Circus vol 2 career as a german
This game was so good, with great planes.. Too bad they didn't go back to this theater with the new IL-2.
