1/35 Border Models Bf109 G-6. WTF?

  • I bought this kit last summer and it immediatley went into the stash. As is tradition. I dug it out recently to make as part of a 109 group build over on Twitter. Overall the quality of the kit looks EXCELLENT...........BUT............WTF Border?
    Its definatley a kit of two halves. There are a few things that, while VERY 1st world problems, take the shine off what would be a top class product.

    i just build the kit, and im super happy and impressed , its just as good as the new Tamiya kits , i dont mind about any color sceme , ive build 15 different G6- G10 and G-14s kits so i know what colors needed, i need to build the stuka now , and for sure the A-7 when it arrives , WOW what a fit this kit has , everything just fits on 10th of millimeters .
    sorry for your frustration , maybe just stick to airfix kits 😆

      It is a problematic kit with apparent flaws, not a good debut of its first war bird. Fitness is somewhat ok but no where near Tamiya. I can easily give you 5 fitting problems, along with 10+ other stupid sh*t in this kit.

    I have build mainly 1:35 scale armor so it sounded all most like a dream that we would finally get 1:35 planes so I was really looking for this plane. But yeah, not that much interested in this anymore :D Price for this kit is just out of my comfort zone and then that price you don't even get a seat belts or even any kind of decals for instrument panel wtf. Border models fw190 in 1:35 sounds nice but if the price range is on same level I will much more likely just buy Eduards 1:48 kit.

      @RedFiveScaleModels  ปีที่แล้ว

      Bang for buck eduard profi packs are better value. The Revell 1/32 109 and 190 look ok and their tempest, mustang and spit mk2 are really good for the price.

    Maybe the pilots just sleeping! But I hear what you are saying, I was disappointed when I got the prop blades in mine. Don’t get the point of that at all. Ended up buying canopy masks, 3d cockpit decals and etch seat belts.
    Ah well, first world problems.

      Exactly that, plus it seems EVERYONE I know who bought this kit got the dead "sleeping" pilot 🤣

    Hello. I have reviewed this kit last December and got flack for not beenig to critical of it. I completely agree with your statements on the cost and additional aftermarket parts, if you want to show off this airplane in its full glory. But you are lucky. You got the ded pilot and metal props. I have a ded pilot and rockets + decals. You could display this aircraft in a diorama or vignette as crashed bf109 with the bent props I cant. 🤣 well I could, if I carefully bend plastic props. But what then with the rockets??? It would be nice if get a mistery box 📦 was themed and not random. As for the cockpit instrument panels,... well I am two minds. This is a hobby in which skill should be at the forefront and not money. But I do like a smart looking cockpit as well so, for my build I bougt Quinta Studios 3d decals for the cockpit.

    • @RedFiveScaleModels
      @RedFiveScaleModels  ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah, I got the 3d decals too. Since posing the video ive since found out the cockpit decals are in the STUKA kit? There are 4 extra cockpit decals in there and a few people have said Border recommend using them. How true that is i dont know but theyre definitely in that kit.

      You get those kits. I stopped the 109 before xmas just sucked my mojo. Doing a tamiya comet atm. Boy, what a kit. Ive got a AFV Churchill AVRE HOPEFULLY less of a ballache than youre having.

      @Red Five Scale Models yeah I've already built it! Added alot of extras like wiring and the spiral cord from the spot light etc shame you can't post pics in TH-cam comments eh I've got the weathering all done really nice kit it was! Barrel was surprisingly nice that's the first I've used a kit barrel! Normally replace them straight away I like metal ones but was so desperate to build it at the time!

Yeah border model's are best for the detail fit issues is what modelling os all about lol it is nice to have a tamiya kit now and then I only bought Tamyia cause it was a comet but don't normally do tamiya no challenge in them atoll!

    I can understand the dead pilot complaint. Whoever came up with "Let's send them a dead pilot." idea was an idiot. And yes, it being an expensive kit and being limited should not mean you enter a lottery for the extra bits, another stupid idea. However, complaining about having to paint in dials is pretty nit-picky. As an old modeler I've had to paint them in alot in the early days since most the times kits didn't even come with decals for dials. If your skilled enough, painted in dials can look just as good if not better than decals. The problem with current kitbuilders is that they want shortcuts. They have no patience for learning a new skill and improving their building skills. It's hurting the hobby. Might as well buy pre-painted desk models! Where's the fun in that?

  • @AFV85
    @AFV85 ปีที่แล้ว

    I build alot of border model's armour kit's I know what to expect of them but it's still pretty bad how the fitments are so poor and the detail is the best of anything on everything! They concentrate to much on getting the detail looking good n correct and not concentrating on how the actual kit's go together! There stuka is ment to be good if you don't use the open canopy that is, but yeah I've just ordered 2 of their new kit's the new Tiger 100 the Stug full interior

      God speed. I think ill swerve them unless theres summit i really want. Got a big enough stash to keep me going. CHERNOBYL dio after this then might do the 1/16 easy 8 sherman

    • @AFV85
      @AFV85 ปีที่แล้ว

      Just don't andys 1.16 sherman before this centurion and takoms 1.16 the sherman has its fit issues it's not the best! It was a big job getting the turret weld seam put in whare they join it's no bother on the 1.35s lol plus there's nothing for it really stowage wise etc to kit it out! I have used balsa wood for the front shelf and used chains on all the filler caps and front light plugs and the 50 cal! The 50 cal is really nice as are the T66 tracks!

    • @AFV85
      @AFV85 ปีที่แล้ว

      The rear plate in the right didn't sit great and the turret hatches and cupola were abit off but gave me a chance to hinge them so they open and close now and not just stuck open or closed! Classy hobby have brought out new 1.16 US figures so we have more for it than just the TC they look nice I've ordered 2 of them!

    When you have a personal info center (internet) in your home? You don't have to get up, go out to a public library to a book store and buy a book that also takes time and money.

    • @RedFiveScaleModels
      @RedFiveScaleModels  4 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      The point of the video is the cost vs hassle. It's an expensive kit, or was at launch. Promises so much but fails. You shouldn't have to go and research the colours of wiring looms in a 109 cockpit to get it right. Also I guarantee that a decal sheet/printed PE or 3d decals would look far better on the majority of builders kits. Also not everyone wants to go to the far end of using a single hair to paint artificial horizons on dials in 1/35 that will bearly be seen. Aircraft kits of any kind of value should have dials and seatbelts in at least decal form. Not everyone out there will be as experienced as you or I so if someone spends their hard earned and find out basic things aren't in the box that's a problem. You're looking at this from your own personal POV. I'm looking at it on behalf of others not just myself. It's a review to advise people of the pitfalls. I have the ability, time and money to buy extra parts, paint individual dials etc. Not everyone does.

      Well, can understand that but if your spending that much on a kit it probably means you've built a few kits. Nobody buys an expensive kit right off.
      I like doing research on my projects I usually learn quite a bit more about the subject than before. It's never too late to learn. Your modeling history, why not learn while your having fun?

      Ok? I should find another hobby because I was disappointed by a kit? It has obvious flaws and was at a pretty high price when I bought it. Comparable price wise with much better kits. It's a review, sorry it wasn't to your liking. Thanks
