- Dream Theater playing Pink Floyd's Hey You in 1998. This song is featured in the Acoustic at the Electric Factory bootleg.
Note: This is a special concert, released to the international fan club. It's not supposed to be an accurate version nor released in an album, it is just a tribute to a band that influenced the Dream Theater guys as musicians. Watch this as 5 guys having fun playing a song of one of their favorite bands, not as an attempt of performing the ultimate version of the song.
They're not gonna prove anything with this cover, it's just a tribute to a band they love. now just shut up and enjoy or just click and close it. !!!
I'm not gonna compare this to original, I'm going to enjoy. love to hear my favorite bands covering my favorite songs.
So sit there with your non comparing ass, enjoy it, and stop bitching about what others want to do. Why do you need to try to prop yourself up as some sort of morally superior cover songs fan? 😂😂😂
That bass, really changed the atmosphere
Exactly that's the beauty of fretless bass.
Petrucci: Technicality, Skills, Speed
Gilmour: Talent, Art, Emotion
Petrucci is considered one of the greatest guitarists today, that's why he was in the G3 together with Vai and Satriani..
Gilmour is considered one of the legends in music. He even admitted that he was not that great a guitarist, but he said he played with real emotions that conveys his feelings to his guitar.
SKILL and EMOTION
Both Legends
They are both great in their own way.
STOP COMPARING AND LISTEN...
That's exactly what you're doing
@@cobain_92 Thanks
Dream Freezer
BUT YOU ARE COMPARING TOO
That right
I like the fact that they don't try to change the pink floyd covers in any way. That shows respect to the floyd. Good cover by the way
I love every single Floyd cover they do. Sounds so crazy rich, fills you up.
I love this cover! DT is not trying to copy Pink Floyd!! This is a tribute to Pink Floyd!!
every Pink Floyd cover by Dream Theater I've heard is actually perfect. Timing is right on. I even love the voice.
holy shit that solo gets me every single time
I understand you very well :)
I love how everyone loves pink floyd
I wish that were true. I've known some lost souls who hate Floyd. I can't understand how it's possible, but they exist. Sometimes it keeps me up at night. 🤷
THAT LEAD GUITARIST YEEEEEEAAAHHHHH!!!! He hit it SO BEAUTIFULLY!!!! Pure MAGIC!!! Impressed the pink outta me!
How can you listen to prog and not know John Petrucci??
😂😂😂 very true @@slumbarian
LaBrie's voice is superb in this song! And I never thought Mike Portnoy had such a sweet voice heh :P
I know....right ??!!
i love seeing petrucci soloing with passion
Excelente couver, talvez um dos melhores que já ouvi. Great sound 🎙🎸🎧
Great performance!
"Dream Theater" is a good Band 🎸
Beautiful tributo a Pink Floyd .. Love ❤🎶🎤🎼🎸
The voice of this man drives me CRAZY !!! unique
I am a HUGE Floyd fan. HUGE, this cover is really well done. Dream Theater is a great band in their own right! Well Done!
i cant believe how good this band is i`ve never heard of them before but i`ve been into floyd for 20 years and this is the best cover band i`ve ever heard ......awsome!!!!!
My two favourite things ever in one video...today was a good day
Superb... Trust these guys to pull it off. The keyboard filling in under the solo adds such a heavy atmosphere. Love it.
Only now do I discover this fantastic video
Legends honoring legends. Beautiful. I love when music can move me this way.
DT faz um cover de Pink Floyd tão bom que eu consigo afirmar que a qualidade da performance é tão boa quanto a do Pink Floyd. Extremamente fiel e perfeito!
I realise that now ,this was my first time hearing this band and what a talent!!!I am downloading all their albums as we speak.
The snare killed it
kinda :p
I personally felt Mike could shut hi-hat more. It seemed too loud...
YES!!
i LOVE the concept of a couch on stage!
I love James Labrie's voice
Dream Theater is the only band who is able to make a quiet acceptable pink floyd cover !
DT with Mike Portnoy yes.
Foo fighters get some good cover too
jame's voice fits perfect
omg what an amzing bass playing!
DT are one of the best prog bands going and Mike Portnoys drumming has made me fall in love with music again. This is brillant cover of another gr8 porg band. Keep it comming boys.
God i love james's ending vocals!
Look, I am a hardcore Floyd fan for life, and I think this is pretty damn good! I'm going to see these guys with Iron Maiden next week and I REALLY hope they do some of this!!!
This song is so sad and beautiful... Awesome cover, Love DT and Floyd.
I love Dream Theater. But I love Pink Floyd more. This is superb.
Hey you, out there in the cold
Getting lonely, getting old
Can you feel me?
Hey you, standing in the aisles
With itchy feet and fading smiles
Can you feel me?
Hey you, don't help them to bury the light
Don't give in without a fight
Hey you out there on your own
Sitting naked by the phone
Would you touch me?
Hey you with you ear against the wall
Waiting for someone to call out
Would you touch me?
Hey you, would you help me to carry the stone?
Open your heart, I'm coming home
But it was only fantasy
The wall was too high
As you can see
No matter how he tried
He could not break free
And the worms…
Um dos melhores covers da música '' Hey You '' que existe.. só achei falta daquela parte da mosca '' zzzzzz..'' que tem na versão original. Longa vida ao Pink Floyd !!!
Drum and bass are perfect!
The instruments are near perfect. The bass work in particular is exceptional.
Love the quality of the sound...
This cover is awesome. The original from Pink Floyd is untouchable... but it´s still an great cover! Please stop to discuss which is better! Music is no competition!
Dream Legends are trying to look back at pink floods
They're not a cover band, but have a knack to covering everyone from Metallica to Iron Maiden, Pink Floyd, and so on. Dream Theater has been around for 20 years maybe, definitely look into their stuff. They've got some powerful music.
Haters (both PF haters and DT haters) , just go home and relax in an icetub please.. you have no business to comment if you cant appreciate one artists interpretation of another artists song... I am a huge Pink Floyd fan, but hell yeah, this is damn good in its own way..
As a bonafide Floydhead, I thought I'd throw my two cents worth in here...These guys are AWESOME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Nice, great stuff. The sound is great!
I wish they had done the entire album of The Wall. Now that would have been amazing.
From a huge Pink Floyd fan and a metal hater, this is a very good cover!
Haha I love how Mike felt he HAD to sing that verse.
2:49 usually I don't like when someone covers a song I love and changes too much but I love this aggressive alternate picking part
Great cover wonderful John,s guitar!
damn this is 1 of ma Fav. Songs to Pink Floyd and dream theater is Dream Theater kickin ass in everythin' they play
Silent Man intro at the end :p
I love this cover. One of the best
beautiful... ♥
Its great to watch your favorite band covering other favorite band :) great cover!
Every time I listen to this it sounds like he's gonna run out of breath at the "no hope at all" bit, but he pulls it off and it sounds fuckin' sweet.
Amazingly talented group.
The guitar is amazing
Wow guys why all the hatin? This is coming from someone whos favorite band has been pink floyd since the 6th grade, this isnt a bad cover. And you people out there bashing dt's guitar solos and shit because he through a run in there grow the fuck up. He is a great guitar player and plays with a degree of soul, he may not be as good at it as gilmor, but that is about the closest you can get. fuck what do i know i am high. he he he he he he he he.
To Thomasfagerli : Music is not only about technique! Good technique does not garantie good songwriting skills! Who is most famous? Pink Floyd or Dream Theater? The answer is obviously Pink Floyd, because they wrote great songs, songs that Dream Theater never will be able to write. They are just great musicians, not great composers, and thats a big difference. :-)
Lindo! Essa rasga a alma!
Excellent job not a big fan of DT but watched a few of their Pink Floyd covers and Maiden infact and for the few comments i have read on here saying they sound nothing like Pink i think they have nailed very well although they have put the DT touch to it
So awesome. Wow. Thank you for posting.
i usually hate pink floyd covers but this is amazing. i love petrucci's solo and myung's bass kicks ass
great Dream Theater
great cover
and great PINK FLOYD !!
the bass is SICK.
what a great cover. Petrucci was kicking ASS.
labrie also did quite well
nice job on covering that Floyd Cover DT RULES
Gilmour said it once. He played the fretless bass on the original Hey You.
What is it with DT and Pink Floyd?? Who are the big fans. I know Portnoy is a fan, but who else?
It is great that one of the greatest prog bands covers PF so well and that much
its not really a matter of covering the song or adding your own work when you think about Pink Floyd songs. Of course Dream Theater does a great job, they are awesome... But Pink Floyd is in whole another dimension. Songs such as Time, Breath, Hey You or Comfortably Numb (I would not mention Echoes or Set the Controls for the Heart of the Sun at all because they are unique) can never give the same feeling in any cover, and the vital part of Pink Floyd songs (imho) is their feeling, continues...
is it just me, or is Portnoy rushing just a tad? Perhaps his kick and snare are just a little ahead of the pulse when he comes in. Something about the feel at his entrance just feels off.
Yes, he is definitely off the click when he comes in. Not a big deal for me though, the cover is awesome
He's no Nick Mason. Nobody plays like Nick.
777jones 77jjns
It's just you, you discovered it all on your own good boy
@@enriquevelazqueza859 nope he's not
tienes razon amigo! Que demasiada gente quiere apuntar los problemas con ambos grupos en vez de escuchar la musica!
This was from an acoustic gig in Rotterdam during there tour for Falling into Infinity. not part of that DVD though, a bootleg.....
My first DT show was Dec 28th 98'......one of the 'Home For The Holidays" shows......Irving Plaza, NYC. They played this as well as a bunch of other rareties/covers....
This is definitely from that same mini-tour.....Derek's last 4 shows with the band....
...he did a KILLER "Ice Cream Man"!!!
@slashlin1006 Yes, this video was taken before he made his signature with Ernie Ball Musicman... before that used Ibanez Guitars.
@Gary1497 Immitation, no matter how bad you may think it to be, is still the highest form of compliment. As for nobody should ever cover the iconic Pink Floyd tunes, David Gilmour hired the Australian Pink Floyd to do just that at his 50th birthday party some years back...
this band is the most talented band . PERIOD
that was rrrrrrrrrrreally good! well done
While you're at it..check out the Bobaflex version. It's awesome!
Thanks again for sharing
Great cover :) Love the original song, love the cover, love Pink Floyd, love Dream Theater
Awesome! These guys have covered all the PF songs perfectly
I love how ppl come to these videos and comment things like "the original is better"...I mean seriously, what did you expect? Great covers, love dream theater =D
This cover is awesome, has a lot of feel in it, and it's LaBrie at his best.
They've got some stuff not so much on the heavy side. There's A LOT, but check out "Another Day" (older, kinda 90s), "Finally Free", "Disappear" isn't bad, "Goodnight Kiss" and it's awesome lead into "Solitary Shell" both available live on youtube from the amazing SCORE concert, definitely check that out. "Hollow Years" and "Home" are big favorites too. All songs worth a listen.
Even though James LaBrie doesn't really fit this song, it's an AWESOME cover.
I hate how people say Pink Floyd should never be covered or replicated...they are playing the songs in tribute for the band. This cover is nowhere near as bad as the other covers I've heard.
awesome cover. it seems like dream theater really likes pink floyd since they cover them so often....im a fan of both bands and love when DT covers pink floyd
Amazing band covering another amazing band. Word.
Nice...Very Nice! I'm a drummer but, watching this video I can further appreciate the compositional genius of David Gilmour's guitar work in this song.
@twoo57 that's 'Cause the fan wants the camera to be able to zoom in on the instrument and show what's happening. :)
@gogicha21 Thats maybe because the "second guitar" is played by Jordan on keys.
@xParasiticx this was actually a good cover... dream theater are a great band, but... some things should just be copied... because if you change them even a little... you just make them worse. So an advice to anyone who wants to cover a Pink Floyd song... just copy it... it's perfect already
The drummer is actually pretty good at drumming and singing, i didnt expect that
How can you say that James LaBrie sings bad on this song? He's a great vocalist, and he sings beautiful on this cover. Also, Dream Theater is an awesome band! (Got all the CDs)
I love most all kinds of music, and this is the world's greatest band in my opinion from a perspective of talent, though I wish they could sing harmony; that's their only weakness in my eyes.
i genuinely thought it was floyd here (i forgot what i clicked on). EXTREMELY good cover.
That solo is so fucking powerful. This is bliss.
According To The Various Pink Floyd Albums I've Got, Waters Did The Bulk Of The Writing.
But Yeah, The Wall And DSOTM Has ALot of Gilmours Influence I'd Say.
Aweosme Cover Too.
Back when Labrie sounded as fresh as ever.
@EthanHanna Thanks, I personally think PF's best work is Meddle, or Wish You Were Here. But Animals and Obscured by Clouds and Pipers at The Gates of Dawn are great albums too.
