- Since Roger is really gonna leave his role as Sonic The Hedgehog, I'm making this video of the first three Voice actors of him: Ryan Drummond, Jason Griffith and Roger Craig Smith, since it's (probably) their last time of voicing him in the games. Personally, I think he did great.

@@JustHazzo yea I know... Still good though. Better than the trash we've been getting from Pontac and Graff that's for sure, feeling closer in tone to how things used to be before the 2010s started. And thank god those clowns have been given their marching orders. Here's hoping this can also be a chance for the series to claim it's heart it lost, after Black Knight, and not be afraid to take itself seriously again. Because if the characters themselves don't care about what's happening in the story then why should we?

Gotta love how every sonic has a final cutscene that is poetic. Ryan had one about going on the next adventure, Griffith has one about every world having its end, and now Smith has one about taking off and leaving and even saying goodbye to the avatar aka you.

Jason might of had the most shit reputation (mostly because of his ssbb voice lines) but his lines were pretty emotional when you really think about it
For real, I know I'm really going to miss Roger, just like when I missed Jason. He voiced Sonic the longest, made through a lot of games, animations and Sonic Boom cartoon (which I think was his shining moment). It's been a good 10 years.

Im team Jason, but roger in boom is perfection. I never really played the adventure games, but if they bring ryan back for the remakes (which are prob happening just saying), id be more than happy to try and fall in love with the voice too. There all legends.
I go back and forth between Drummond and Griffith. I didn’t like Smith at all. Didn’t like him in 2010, still don’t like him now. I’m glad we’ve moved on from having middle-aged-man-Sonic.

Personally I don’t like Roger’s voice for GAME Sonic, (he was perfect for Boom’s Sonic) but he deserves respect. He’s done a good job, has been doing this for 10 years in a row, and had really put some effort into this.

This honestly makes you wonder if the writers knew and wrote it in because of that or if the voice actors knew and just added those lines in themselves honestly I wouldn't be surprised if Jason added that line into black knight because they did say he'd usually add in some lines that weren't on the script and he did it a lot in unleashed so honestly if he add in this line from black knight himself then that makes his leaving sadder because it'd mean he knew and just wanted to tell everyone goodbye before he left. Also I may be team Jason 100% and while Roger may not have been my favorite it's still sad to see him go as it's always sad to see a Sonic voice actors leave, and I don't think he was as bad as most people say of course I still think Jason was better but Roger's like a close 3rd or second and Roger was extremely great in boom and I chok most of the bad voice acting in the games to the bad writing at times because when the writing was good he did pretty well, so it's honestly sad to see them just let him go like that.

@@cliffturbo2146 Yea, same goes for the rest of the Japanese cast who are largely the same since Adventure's release in 98, save for Tails who had two different voices for the two Adventure games, but has remained the same since Sonic X/Heroes. As well as Eggman, though his actor passed away in 2015, it's pretty understandable someone else had to step in. Also too bad Roger couldn't have gotten some of Jun'ichi's lines instead of being stuck with trash from Pontac and Graff. It'll be good to see the back of those guys to allow new writers to come in for the next game.

@@multimania4151 it's an unofficial ongoing 10 radio drama featuring the voices of Ryan Drummond and Mike Pollock. It's currently 5 episodes in and easily better than the stories we've been getting the past 10 years from Pontac and Gaff along with the fact that the characters act as they should and aren't afraid to take things seriously when it's called for, just like how things used to be from Adventure to Black Knight. Here's a link to the first episode if fancy checking it out, and while it may lack visuals - it is a radio drama after all - it more than makes up for it in terms of writing and star power.

Me too. The first time I have heard about Roger was in Sonic Generations. He did pretty good job as Sonic, and especially Sonic Boom.

I like how each voice actors final words as Sonic represents the generation of Sonic they voiced. Ryan’s was all fun and adventure fitting the themes of Adventure games and Heroes. Jason’s probably is the most complex and fits the themes of Sonic 06, Unleashed, Black Knight with living life to the fullest and there’s always an end.. Roger’s was simple but effective for the most part. A basic see you later buddy representing how basic Colors, Lost World, Generations, and Forces are

I did some math, and counting the time from their first time voicing Sonic in the games to their final time reprising the role...
Ryan Drummond did Sonic's voice acting in Sonic Adventure (1998), and his final reprisal of the role was in Sonic Heroes (2004), meaning he voiced the blue blur for about six years.
Jason Griffith first did Sonic's Voice Acting in Sonic Rush (2005), and his final reprisal of the role was in Sonic and Sega All-Stars Racing (2010), meaning he had a five-year stint, the shortest of the main three videogame voice actors.
Roger Craig Smith first acted as Sonic in Sonic Free Riders (2010), and his final reprisal of the role was in Puyo Puyo Tetris 2 (2020) giving him the longest stint as Sonic thus far, with him being Sonic's VA for ten years.

I don’t know about you but Jason Griffith will always be *MY* Sonic the Hedgehog, played the hell out of Sonic Unleashed, enjoyed Sonic and the Black Knight (terribly underrated), and mained Sonic in Brawl. Jason Griffith was so good as Sonic, miss him a lot as Sonic
Okay, and now that I know about you, let me just say that Ryan Drummond will always be MY Sonic. I played the hell outta Sonic Adventures 1 and 2 on my PC with mods and had fun with Sonic Heroes on my old PC (even though I didn’t beat Sonic Heroes yet.) I also played some of Sonic Shuffle on a Dreamcast Emulator for iPad and it was okay, but Ryan will always be Sonic to me. As for Jason and Roger, the only Jason games I really played were Sonic Riders and Sonic Unleashed, Sonic Unleashed was alright but I hated Jason’s performance in Riders, and I wish Ryan voiced Sonic there instead. As for Roger, I got halfway through Generations and TSR and played a little of Frontiers, and he was alright, as were the games themselves. I didn’t play any other game that Roger was in besides those titles.

Roger didn’t have scripts NEARLY as good as the last two VAs, but he still gave it his all. Heck I’d say the line deliver in Forces was one of the strongest parts of it. And yes, Boom was his best acting yet. I also love how each VA’s final lines represent very different styles of writing and tone in the each era.
Here's hoping that the next guy gets better material fast or he'll end up being a Roger Lite.
10 years, the only Sonic voice in English to take the role during social media being a real thing and present in two Smash Bros games but Roger despite being the one who I'd call the most established voice actor didn't work for me not just due to the voice.
He didn't get to do original lines for Smash Bros which isn't unique to Sonic, since a number of characters just reuse voice clips (Young Link) but it means a bit more when that's their chance to stick out as the new Sonic.
Ryan Sonic went on endless adventures and never came back.
Jason Sonic didn't survive that hammer attack.
Roger Sonic took his car and rode into the sunset, never to be seen again.

Damn. Seeing SATBK and actually realizing that it was the last cutscene Jason voiced got me feeling a type of way. I'm actually tearing up a little.

That's more because Sonic X's English production is licensed and handled by 4Kids, not SEGA. And at the time, Jasons' contract was with 4Kids, not SEGA, so whenever 4Kids had something Sonic X related, they could literally just call Jason into the booth.
It's why when Sonic X first started airing, Ryan was still doing Sonics' voice in the games, while Jason stuck to the anime...until SEGA was like "ay yall tryna save money...?"

I love all 3 of them, especially Ryan and Jason. A big part of my childhood. I kinda grew out of Sonic a bit by the time Roger came in.
I loved them all so much. The 4Kids Cast really began to improve in their last couple of games though. I really began to notice it in Sonic Unleashed.

Just think how lucky we are to still have Mike Pallock as Eggman. He has still been around since 4kids.

You can really hear a good change in their last cutscenes. Their voices sound refined.
God I wanna cry. All of these voice actors mean so much to me seeing as they helped make Sonic into what I love. I really do owe so much of who I am to Ryan and Jason and even Roger.

The worst thing about it is they all had a different feel to their interpretations of their characters, and Drummond at least had an extra few lines before his departure, and Bristow only left after a short last line in the Advance series.
They all had something special to their characters, and that little goodbye moment was perfect for each character’s send off. Their voice actors are valued, loved, and missed.😢

I still miss Jason Griffith as Sonic's voice actor. Don't get me wrong, I like what Roger did with the series but Jason was and is still my favorite voice we've had for Sonic.
I grew up with Jason's end, then my time with Roger. I'm gonna miss them.
I haven't watched yet but I know this'll hit different.

Roger retired on his own. Ryan left because SEGA wanted a cast that has continuity with the games and Sonic X show. Jason just wasn’t called back in.

Same, I think i liked Jason's voice the best but I definitely don't see a problem with Roger as Sonic.

It really does feel like Roger is quietly saying goodbye. What makes that moment all the more sad is that Roger never got the chance to work with better scripts when it comes to the Segaverse games.
All these hit diffrent when you realize its there last line
It almost makes me teary eyed

He never got a rematch, cause this was his last adventure

I don't know if any of you remember when Jason Griffith first replaced Ryan Drummond, but I remember the insane backlash that happened, even the petitions went nuts! Looking back you got to feel bad for Jason; he not only had the weight of the world on his shoulders voicing one of the biggest video game mascots in history, but he had to voice BOTH Sonic AND Shadow so he had to juggle vocal gymnastics to portray two different characters in the same franchise (not saying that's a problem, a lot of anime dubs do the same thing)
I'm pleased Jason came into his own and didn't come off as Drummond-copycat but looking back, Jason really did have a lot of responsibility in the early days playing the character; I liked his Shadow voice as well, but I really think they should have gotten another actor to portray Shadow just to take some of the pressure off him.
I didn't know people disliked him at first. I at least, thought he was great, because he left such a good impression of Sonic in the games and Sonic X. Although, I can't imagine voicing Sonic, Shadow and Jet was easy.

I legitimately teared up watching this, seeing the voice actors say their last lines. Especially the Sonic Forces one, now that I had Roger's departure in mind. Ryan, Jason, and Roger, thank you so much for voicing Sonic throughout the years. You guys made me laugh, cry, and gave me so many memories that I will cherish forever. I wish you the best of luck in your future.
I don't know why, but seeing that last cutscene from Forces really hit me now. I didn't like Rodger's voice nearly as much as the others, but now being in limbo on knowing who's coming next and what they'll bring to the table, I will always remember what Rodger contributed to the franchise. Twitter takeovers, the Sonic Boom show, and the many cheesy lines that were spouted in each game that we still go back and reference today will be missed. Hopefully whatever Rodger's next endeavor is, he's happy, he gave me more memories with my favorite character of all time, my big brother that always inspired me to be daring in doing what's right, to relax even under pressure, and to always remember the real super power of teamwork and friendship
It's scary how Roger's last line is a truly "Goodbye" because we don't know (at least, i don't know) who is the next Sonic's voice actor...He built a great legacy for sure
