I've always thought it was their best album. I bought the cassette not long after it come out and it was my favorite from the first time I listened to it.
I can definitely relate to this song and video. As a teenager I did my fair share of sneaking around to be with the boy I wanted to be with. Mama and Daddy never approved of anyone I liked until one day when I was 16 years old, a boy with long black rocker hair, who looked like Slash, walked into their house and he was intelligent and polite and could sit and hold a conversation with them. They looked past the hair and ripped jeans etc and that's because he's the only one who showed them the respect they deserved. We stayed together for 3 years. Life took us in different directions but I'm happy to say we're still great friends today at 50 years old. 🤘
In the video, who wasn't thinking in the end, "Run girl! Get away from those hypocrites!" The 80's was a pivotal time for the subject. More & more young people were throwing the whole concept of weddings and just lived together. Now, thankfully, it's no longer taboo. I was raised to be a devout RC. '82 I married w/all the trappings my mom wanted. By '89 I was divorced. In '91, I found my soulmate, we agreed to live together. 2 years later we got married by a JP on the beach. We have our 29th anniversary on 11/20. There are no truer words than when Jon sings, "..wear that ring of diamonds, when your heart is made of stone. You can talk but still say nothing. You stay together but alone" Man, that's not love, that's indifference, and that means it's over. I love this band and IMHO, every song on the album should have hit #1 on all of the charts.
@@bjohnson1489What the heck does that have to do with this song, the way of thinking at that time and now? Look I can't stand that crap either but this has nothing to do with that.
I adore Richie singing high harmony to Jon. One of my favorite moments of all their songs is this here in the 2nd verse when they sing "when they both turn out the lights." Chills every time.
The biggest missing piece is Richie's harmonies and their on stage and sing writing chemistry. I just saw them it still feels empty without Richie there . He was my favorite.
Thanks for saying this, not many would because people seem to think that Richie was replaceable and it annoys me, Phil X is such a wonderful guitar player, he really is, but he doesn't have that feel what Richie gave Bon Jovi and to me, this is one of his best guitar solos he ever did, it's phenomenal, it's just so beautifully crafted that it tugs at your heart strings, and your so right, without Richies beautiful vocals, it just isn't the same xx 😊😍❤️ Thank you xx ❤️🤗
You mean comercial radio pop rock that housekeepers shake their asses to while washing the dishes? Yeah, it's a good thing that thrash, death and black metal were starting to develop in the underground for real metal fans who wanted to be aggressive and avoid this sugary sweet radio shit.
Jon's voice in this song sounds so seductive. I don't know if its the video clip itself, the storyline but the director captured the mood of this song to perfection.
I love that final part of the song where there's a pause... before it ends with a kind of crescendo & guitar solo. Reminds me of Madonna, Live to Tell.
The last few years have not been kind to JBJs voice. Older age and constant touring has caught him. Im not bashing him,,, love him and his stuff,,,, but like happens to all artists who push into their late 50s the vocal chords thicken and they just lose it. All his new stuff is "talking" basically and to see him live and trying the old stuff is painful to watch. Like Paul Stanley of KISS. A for effort but a time comes when you have to admit the past is where the classics will stay,,,,,, oh yeah, in out hearts and memories too.
Rock will never be as good as it was in the 80's. Bon Jovi, Motley Crűe, Van Halen, Scorpions, Alice Cooper's come back, Aerosmith, Journey, etc. That was ROCK! Not the homogenized, whiny crap that is called rock today.
Born in 75 I grew up with Bon Jovi and loved them from the first time I heard them, seen them in concert 3 times while I was growing up, twice with Skid Row, I had their cassettes and their posters from metal edge magazines on my wall and I still know every word to all of their songs, I even had my first crush on a guy named James Craig Hood in the 7th grade who looked like Richie and was pretty bad ass on guitar and sang like Jon. I'll love this band forever and will always be one of their biggest fans.

The radio never plays good old songs that are forgotton about BECAUSE THEY PLAY THE SAME SONGS OVER AND OVER BY THE SAME ARTISTS. WHY???????? This song just popped in my head at 6am and i was afraid I'd forget about it so had to play it and save
I just love hearing Jon Bon Jovi's high notes in this song. It's eargasm to my ears. I also had to repeat that part of the song too. RIP replay button.

I don't need no license
To sign on no line
And I don't need no preacher
To tell me you're mine
I don't need no diamonds
I don't need no new bride
I just need you, baby
To look me in the eye
I know they have a hard time
And your Daddy don't approve
But I don't need you Daddy
Telling us what we should do
Now there's a million questions
I could ask about our lives
But I only need one answer
To get me thought the night
So, I say
Baby, can you tell me
Just where we fit in
I call it love
They call it living in sin
Is it you and me
Or just this world we live in
I say we're living on love
They say we're living in sin
Is it right for both our parents
Who fight it out most nights
Then pray for God's forgiveness
When they both turn out the lights
Or wear that ring of diamonds
When you heart is made of stone
You can talk but still say nothing
You stay together but alone
Or is it right to hold you
And kiss your lips goodnight
They say the promise is forever
If you sign it on the dotted line
Oh baby, can you tell me
Just where we fit in
I call it love
They call it living in sin
Is it you and me or
Just this world we live in
I say we're living on love
They say we're living in sin
Baby, can you tell me
Just where we fit in
I call it love
They call it living in sin
Is it you and me or
Just this world we live in
I call it love
They call it living in sin

Beautiful and realistic . Stereotype 'Holier than thou' parents typical of that era so well depicted

enorme voz, con sentimiento y al final su voz desgarrada...
Bon Jovi is the greatest band I wish I can go back in time and live through there younger days slippery when wet tour and new jersey tours
Bon Jovi, Best Band 😍😘❤💕
La mejor canción para mí, tanto sentimiento en la letra, los gritos agudos al cantarla, los armónicos del solo en la guitarra sin duda es perfecta llega hasta el corazón
John is Good for playing Music your my Best Friend Ever
The radio never plays good old songs that are forgotton about BECAUSE THEY PLAY THE SAME SONGS OVER AND OVER BY THE SAME ARTISTS. WHY???????? This song just popped in my head at 6am and i was afraid I'd forget about it so had to play it and save
When bon jovi & richie voices are combined, the mic turns into flame🫰🏻✌🏻❤️❤️
I just love hearing Jon Bon Jovi's high notes in this song. It's eargasm to my ears. I also had to repeat that part of the song too. RIP replay button.
I hear ya! Or if your legit from the 80s it's. R.i.p. rewind button
