- Assassin's Creed Rogue's story edited into a movie, in glorious 4K!
Sorry about the wait, here's my movie of Assassin's Creed Rogue! I originally planned to release this earlier this year, but when I was done with my Unity movie, I was a little fatigued with Assassin's Creed and needed to move onto something else, so I did Shadow of Mordor, and then felt like I needed to get my Arkham Knight movie out as soon as possible, so that came next. After that I had to take a short break to play MGS5, and that game took longer than I thought to beat, so by the time that was done, there just wasn't enough time to complete this one before Syndicate's release like I originally planned.
For those of you who may be unfamiliar with my work, the goal is to take the story of a game, and present it in movie form, so that everybody cn enjoy the story, whether they play games or not. Even if you've played the game, you usually play the game over several days. By the end of your play time, you will probably have forgotten many of the early story details. By watching the whole thing from start to end on a movie, you can get a much better picture of the story as a whole, as it all stays fresh in your mind. Then of course if you don't play games, or didn't play this particular game, this allows you to enjoy the story without needing to play the game. Although of course, I do recommend playing any game that I turn into the movie if possible.
Obviously the focus of the story is in the cutscenes, but I can't only show the cutscenes, because a good portion of the story is told through the gameplay. I try to keep gameplay to the minimum necessary for telling the story, preventing plot holes, and maintaining a good flow. I also try to reduce what I refer to as "gameplay indicators", in other words, the stuff you see on screen that makes it obvious you're watching a game and not a hollywood movie. Thankfully the Assassin's Creed games allow me to disable most of that stuff, but some things remain. I tried to remove as much of the remaining things as possible (like most of the autosave notifications). I created 75 visual effects shots to accomplish this, in addition to some editing tricks.
Thankfully I've been playing Assassin's Creed Syndicate, and it seems that they've done a lot to the autosave indicator to make it less obvious and less common as well, so when I finally get to working on that one, it shouldn't take as long. That being said, Syndicate won't be my next movie. While waiting for Arkham Knight on PC to run better, I started recording footage from The Order 1886, and I recorded and edited a third of that game, so I will return to working on that and finishing that next (after I have a short break to catch up on some games I haven't finished recently)
So next is The Order 1886, then AC Syndicate, and then most likely Uncharted 4. Although if The Order takes me a long time to complete, I may do Uncharted 4 before Syndicate. Right now though I don't think it will be too bad.

Better story overall than Unity in my opinion. Kind of confusing how they didn't do as good of a job portraying why Templar's ideals have sense to them. Honestly Assassin's Creed, the original did a better job. Would of liked better plot points surrounding Shay in his transition and how he seems to have little to no regard in just murdering other assassins right after he was exiled, as if the actions of just the leaders of the brotherhood stains everyone for him.

I don't think so every game the templars are in power. So I think its probably when one side becomes to powerful the other one takes control.

If you want the follow the story, then start with AC Blackflag, then AC Rogue then AC3. I'm not sure where unity fits in the picture.

Same here. But do remember that the Assassin-Templar Conflict is not a black and white war of good verse evil. As they've noted many times, the Assassins and Templars want the same end goal, they just have diametrically opposing beliefs on how to achieve it.
The Assassins have their own share of skeletons in their closet. After all how many times has the assassins we've played as killed random guards solely because they were in the way. In the first game Altair kills several guys who's only crime was being paid/forced into shouting out Templar rhetoric and might tell their boss. A curious thing for an assassin who's first tenant is to stay his blade from the flesh of the innocent.
Of course with Juno out and about now, that Conflict is likely to come to a halt in the face of the threat she posses.
So don't feel bad about choosing the security of Order over the chaos of Freedom.
May the Father of Understanding guide us.

Because of you, I passed on Black Flag, but liked Adewale so much, that I bought Freedom Cry. 'twas a shame to see him die in this, but from the perspective of the Templars, I understand... Of course, I'm saying this with just under an hour left to watch. ;0)

Wow very awesome editing! Rogue is the first AC game that I played (umm AC on psp but didn't finished the game) AC Rogue is the reason that I came back and it is one of my favorite. Unity & The Kenway Saga(AC III & Black Flag) is also my fave especially AC III (Connor) And I like Aveline de Grandpre more than the Frye Lass. Just like you said after beating the game it's fun to watch it as a whole movie and I'd enjoyed your work a lot..thanks man! keep it up! :)

I think a lot of people, including myself, always wanted some sort of meeting between Shay from this game, and Arno from AC Unity. I've thought about it a bit and how it would/could go. I figured this would be a good place to put it, considering a lot of people would come here for Rogue's story.
This definitely veers into fan fiction. If there are any fan fiction writers in the comments, feel free to take what I say and run with it.
In 1776, When Shay finally claims the precursor box after killing Arno's father, he would've headed back to the American Colonies to support Haytham during the Revolutionary war. Shay would've learned of Haytham’s son Connor and maybe even met him.
In 1782, after the Revolutionary war and the after most of the Templars in the colonies would've been wiped out, Shay would plan to retire. He’s seen both the Templars and Assassins wipe each other out over his lifetime, and is ready to stop.
Shay likely would've spent some time in France trying to track down the precursor box, so he could go there to retire. Even start at a family late in life. He'd be in his 50s around here.
He'd be good friends with Francois De La Serre, the leader of the Templars in France. De La Serre was all about unity between the Assassins and Templars, and Shay would support that after all he'd seen.
Shay would inevitably meet Arno as a child living with De La Serre. He would feel guilt for orphaning Arno, and decide to keep an eye on him. Maybe even be the one to teach Arno free-running and some combat.
In 1789, After De La Serre's death, the French Revolution, and Arno joining the Assassins, Shay wouldn't be able to help it getting into the conflict. He'd absolutely side against Germain, the main villain of AC Unity. He’d probably side with Elise De La Serre and Lafrenière of the Templar Order too. He and Arno would stay friendly despite being on opposing sides. Shay would be in his 60's at this time.
If you really wanted to push this into fanfic territory, than Connor could show up in France around the time of the French Revolution, helping where he can and hunting Shay.
I imagine some standoff between Shay, Arno, and Connor. Where Connor is trying to kill Shay, but Arno is attempting to protect him. Arno and Connor wouldn't want to hurt each other in this stand off. I always imagined Connor being a powerhouse that Arno couldn’t fight evenly with. Maybe in his prime Shay could’ve taken on Connor, but not anymore.
This could be a hell of a place for Shay to finally admit to killing Arno's father too, perhaps so Arno doesn't keep risking his life for him, But I think Arno would’ve moved past revenge and forgiven him. Maybe even convince Connor to spare him in the end.
Just a thought about how a Shay/Arno story could’ve played out.
A complaint i have is they need more missions to develop the relationships between the characters

So, Edward Kenway freed Adéwalé, who joined the assassins and became a popular one, at that.
Edward waited too long to tell his son Haythem about his order, so a templar took advantage of Haythem and turned him into a powerful templar.
With the help of Haythem Kenway, Shay Cormac killed Adéwalé, undoing a big part of Edward's legacy at the hands of his own son.
Shay went on to kill an assassin, sparking the journey of Arno Dorian.
Meanwhile, Haythem got busy with a native american, conceiving Connor Kenway, who later killed his father, Haythem Kenway, just as Haythem had worked to destroy his father's, Edward Kenway's, legacy.
honestly every time Shay says 'colonel' i think of popcorn kernels...makes it so hard to take it seriously.

I like this story because it gave me mixed feelings. I got annoyed with Achilles' arrogance that pushed him to continue on his erroneous path despite a lot of innocent people being killed, but certainly didn't agree with Shay's betrayal of the order and enrolling in the Templar Order.
Nothing is black and white, everything is gray, but it can quickly become black if ego is not subdued.
As always stellar work from all those involved in the making of this video. 👏🏻 Even tho it doesn't have captions the volume is higher than on the previous ones which makes it possible to watch even with a loud background.

Personally I prefer to recommend Rogue after Unity, because I think it makes Rogue's ending much more surprising.
