This is a textbook example of an Auxiliarist trying to do good but looking to dumpy to be taken seriously. That handlebar mustache and the town drunk beard is not regulation. The AWU was invented just for this reason. Hold yourself to a higher standard when wearing the uniform. Physical appearance is part of the uniform inspection. Especially when doing Public affairs events. I give this a “D” minus for the overall interview. The Div. Commander wasn’t prepared to answer questions and you could tell he was winging it. Being prepared is being professional. I use this interview for training my PA students as what not to do. Not being prepared is preparing to fail.
I think you're being a little harsh. Regarding the facial hair, they do not have to adhere to the same grooming standards as the sworn members of the CG. Even on the active duty side, shaving chits are handed out like candy these days, females are now authorized the ponytail in uniform (I remember when that was only authorized on certain occassioans). Lets be honest, the handlebar mustache and beard would make many active duty guys jealous. Yes the auxiliary is uniformed, but ultimately they are civilians, and they need to look like civilians so they can connect with the public. I also cant think of too many coasties that Ive heard say - "I cant wait to get over to the auxiliary so i can always have a hight and tight and shave twice a day as a civilian volunteer!"
My application was just approved. I am excited, to say the least!!!
Very informational and great video quality!
CG was on my bucket list. I joined the Reserves at 38. I was in the Army back in my early 20s too. They are taking up to 42 years old at the moment.
