    As someone who flies on SAR patrols for Vessels in Distress and Persons in Water, I cannot preach enough about your safety kit. Test it, be proficient in it. Run drills simulating engineering casualties. Be prepared. Know your international signs of distress and simulate your emergency calls: Vessel name, location, souls on board, nature of distress. Also if you have old flares you can hail the local coast guard sector and request permission to practice using your old flares. Anyway, safe travels you two.

    Yes sir there is no better friend on the waters than the Coast Guard and SAR men and women. I do have a bevy of signaling devices because we are out in blue waters very often. Orange smoke is the most visible. Coast Guard and SARs love to talk about their equipment and when a civilians ask for information they'll give it to you straight. I do on occasion do a man overboard training session. It can be very difficult to spot someone in the water, when panic is setting in and time is critical especially at night. Very nice job on the pass! Have a great week.

    As a merchant mariner I'm truly shocked at just how little equipment and regulations there are when it comes to uninspected vessels. Even on the the little tug I work on we are required to have an incredible amount of stuff from full firefightering suits and Scott packs, to line throwing devices. The list of required safety equipment is very extensive and even the annual CG inspections are all day affairs. Every 2 years drydock inspections are required and they are major inspections. So I guess what I'm trying to say is consider yourself lucky that you aren't held to inspected vessel standards!

    Very similar to the drill I went through in San Diego except there was no mention of the orange "If Found" sticker for your tender or other floatable devices. Good to know.

    You may want to check your Fire ext for the recall by Kidde, your handles looked like the ones I just got replaced.

    We have to remember, the CG is not our enemy. Y working together and following some basic guidelines we all can enjoy the water without incidents.

      Actually, the government is our enemy. I’m not sure how you can live life and not reach this conclusion, but you obviously have. The govt is never, actually, “here to help”. It’s amazing to me this even needs to be explained. If cg is so concerned about boat safety why wouldn’t they do similar checks on land with cars? It makes no sense

    • @TheCornucopiaProject-bd5jk

      @@kayb4995 the cg does not check cars.

      @@TheCornucopiaProject-bd5jk yes I realize that. Just making a point that of course the govt does not care about our safety when they do a “safety” check

    Had one of our petty officers pull over a boat in St. Joseph Michigan in the 1960s. His boat had several young people on it and was an too real gas fumes explosion hazard waiting to happen. Several months later a letter arrived at the station and the owner of said boat received the largest Ninth Coast Guard District fine for a violatin of his type-$10000!!!! There are folks out there who don't get it that you are dealing with the feds when you are boarded by the CG.

      FYI, when a Coast Guard Auxiliarist does a courtesy vessel safety check for a recreational boater, they are not law enforcement, they don’t give out fines, and they do not report results to the Coast Guard or law enforcement. The check is to encourage boater safety and is completely voluntary.

      Thank You Moti! It was wonderful to have you on board and I hope this video encourages boaters to get their vessel safety inspection done before the boating season. We learned a lot from you about being safe on the water. Thank you for all the stickers ❤

    Good to do but it would've drove me a little crazy having the shoes on while walking through the boat.

    This is the Coast Guard Auxiliary. nor the Coast Guard. I was a member for 22 years and did many safe boating checks.

    I can tell you first hand those dont last nearly as long as you would hope in a panic situation... Had a truck firs a few months back...went through 3 of them IN A HURRY!! they worked well, but I could have used 3 or 4 more!!

    • @ElliYacht1
      @ElliYacht1  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes I don't think most people realize they only last a few seconds and in a panic it would feel even less than reality.
