I've got 4 of these things, took one down to Mexico last year, I've done turkeys, chickens, pork ribs, loins, chicken wings, thighs and legs and numerous other things in it. We use it more than our bbq.
Looks good. The top is used to reflect the heat back to crisp it. When you do turkeys you put the top in the last 30 min or so. It does keep out leaves too! Love your channel! Keep the videos coming. I request redfish on half shell on a future video.
I grabbed a few of these few yrs ago $9 each brand new at Lowes on clearance Getting ready for a spiral ham this Thanksgiving BUT ive done a few Bourbon Glazed reg hams along with a few turkeys......Best $9 bucks ever spent and made a great gift or 2....lol
We're using the one my daughter has to make a turkey and ham today for thanksgiving. Thank you for this video, I have never used it before so I'm all excited now!
Clearly I have missed a lot!!! Playing catch up. I LOVE rainy days... Oil-less fryer??? I have clearly been living in a cave!! I have NEVER heard of that before. Soooooo cool!!! LOL. I thought you said you will come back in a "ham hour". WOW.. That looks amazing. Drooling...
A friend introduced me to this oilless fryer. It works great. Most people buy them to fry turkeys but chicken and ham is great too. The drippings go down, through a single hole in the bottom into a drip tray. They cost about $90
I haven’t seen char broil oil less fryer like this. It’s super cool!!! Can you cook a turkey in it ? My son loves ham. We usually cook ham for Christmas. Turned out looking delicious. Hope you and Pam have a Happy Thanksgiving!
I've been cooking turkeys in the big easy fryer for Thanksgiving for years. Christmas is a couple of weeks away and I'm definitely going to try this. I'll come back to the comments and let you know how it comes out.
@@TheSandersKitchenCooked it yesterday and it was excellent. From Grandparents to grandkids they all loved it. The only thing that was kind of difficult was getting it out of the standard basket. I will be investing in a collapsible basket like you were using. Thanks again for the video and I'm sure glad I stumbled upon it.👍👍👍👍👍
My goal in making cooking videos is to share what I know about cooking with others. You just made my day! I’m so happy that your family enjoyed the ham. I really am glad. Yes. Invest in a few add ons for your char broil. Try Cornish hens sometime.
The top increases the temperature close to 100°F I think. I think the temp is around 450° with the top on and 300° - 350° near the bottom. It is cooler near the bottom than at the top. When cooking a turkey, many people put the top on 30 minutes to an hour to brown the top of the turkey. After that, they take it off as it is too hot.
The top is NOT to keep leaves out. You should instead only use it when temperatures are really low 40’s or below or on the last 15-20 minutes of any cook where you want the outside of whatever you’re cooking to brown more.
@@TheSandersKitchen on real warm days be careful using it. You’ll burn the exterior of whatever you’re cooking. I’ve had my Big Easy for around 5 years now and still love it!
@@TheSandersKitchen thanks. I have made a small one last year and it turned out great in the charbroil. This time around I'm cooking for a much larger crowd and was curious to see ~ what lb you can stuff into the basket/holder. I figured nothing over 11 would fit.
These cookers are so versatile! Yes, hams turn out fantastic! Beef, pork, chicken, ribs, lamb, I've done it all!
It’s so fun to cook in them. You’re right.

One year I bought one for each of my sons. For Christmas. We should use ours more.

Hi!!! Yes, you can definitely do a turkey in it as well as chicken, chicken wings, etc.! Happy Thanksgiving to you and your family!!
I do ham, turkey, hens, wings, chuck roasts, ribs and kabobs! list keeps growing what this is good for.
Turkey comes out Juicy!

That grate is not to keep leaves out by the way its a crisper...
Wow. I didn’t know that. Thank you. I’ll be doing a turkey soon.
i will be doing mine also good luck!

the top cover helps brown the meat faster
I heard that. But it’s just supposed to be a leaf catcher.
that lid believe it or not also will help hole heat in to brown food up on outside
I always use it to keep leaves out.

Thanks for the info!
I had an oiless fryer but lost it in the move from Picayune....
You can borrow mine

Thank you for updating me on the grate. After reviewing the instructions, I see where the grate is a temp control for cold weather. 👍🏼

how big was the ham?
I’m pretty sure it was about 10 pounds. If you are going to use the charbroil, I’d go by how it looks. I think 1 hour is average.

@@JoeL-zr4kx I did fit a huge ham in the basket but I had to turn it on it’s side. It didn’t cook the same. Smaller ones are better.👍🏼
Throw away the sugar packet. It ruins the ham...just my opinion. (sigh)
We always use it. Never a problem for us. Just saying. Thanks for your suggestion. 👍🏼
