Homemade Shake and Bake! Pork Chop Coating Recipe: Noreen's Kitchen

  • Greetings! I decided to make some pork loin chops for dinner this evening and I was going to use the box of Shake and Bake, because it was quick and easy. I decided to read the ingredients, and while it really wasn't that bad, it still has "spices" and yeast extract and a couple other things that I figured we didn't need. So I'll put this box in the pantry and give it to the food bank when the school has their holiday food drive.
I threw together this quick and easy coating mix with little effort and it was simply delicious! I used spices to compliment the pork but you could use this for chicken or even cubed steaks. It was quick easy and delicious. I will use this coating mix from now on and forgo the corporate store bought creation that is kind of expensive to begin with.
You can use good quality store bought bread crumbs or some of your own homemade bread crumbs along with spices of your choice. I used about 2 cups of bread crumb and 1 teaspoon each of salt, pepper, garlic powder, onion powder, Italian seasoning and poultry seasoning. I also added 1 tablespoon of sunflower oil and blended it all up in a plastic bag until it looked just like the store bought stuff.
I simply used it like I would the regular coating mix, and baked my pork chops for 30 minutes. They were succulent and flavorful!
I hope you give this idea a try the next time you want to "oven fry" a delicious cut of meat like pork chops, chicken or even round steak!
I hope you try this and I hope you love it!
    Happy Eating!

Why would you expect "flack" for telling everyone how YOU like to have your pork chop dinner. Thats fine with me. We like ours with mashed potatoes and corn. Always have. No problem. You do things the way you like them and we will do things the way we like them.

There is a preservative in many commercially produced breads called L-Cystine. It is an amino acid that is derived from HUMAN HAIR! In many cases it comes from Asia. I make my own bread much of the time. Others, I buy bread that is made in a bakery where none of this monkey business takes place. The only reason for the addition of this chemical is to prolong shelf life. Sorry to make you gross out this morning! Thanks for watching. Look it up! Noreen : )

It’s way too expensive!! The large in my store, Stop & Shop is over $6.00!!! Thanks for this knock off. I don’t like oregano, so no Italian seasoning for me. But sugar & msg, I will put with the other ones you used. Some thyme & sage too. Thanks, I’ve subscribed! PS: why not put some leftover S&B mix in your white gravy for flavor. Trying to stay economical, I’m leaving out PAM. You’re very creative. I’m going to start making my own bread crumbs too. For health & color I’m adding Turmeric & I’m making them tonight. Freezing the leftover is wonderful.

TV Ad for S& B used to say- Shake & Bake and I helped. Noreen your ad should say, “I made Shake & Bake all by myself.” Thanks so much for this video. Original Shake & Bake is pretty pricey these days. You saved me a bunch of money because I have all those ingredients in my pantry. Did you buy a big pork loin and cut it and made chops and maybe a pork roast? I bet you did. Love your channel. You are very articulate. I also learn new words from you..

  • @noreenskitchenchannel

Have you ever looked at the ingredients on the side of the box? I also don't know where the ingredients came from! The could have come from China! Additionally they are probably full of salt, autolyzed yeast extract, which is MSG, and in some cases sawdust, which they notoriously cut bread crumbs with in commercial products (look it up) I like to know what I have is good for my family. As for the BBQ variety, I wouldn't touch it with a ten foot pole, full of God knows what!

Thank you for that information. What is the ‘hair’ stuff you were referring to.
I also just recently learned to never use cheap white vinegar in cooking only use it for cleaning, etc., do NOT ingest. Vinegar is Acetic alcohol and water and though cheap white vinegar is mainly made from GMO corn alcohol, it can also be made from cheaper petroleum, wood or synthetic sources. Gross. At some point the Heinz company began listing on their label, “Not made from petroleum,” which makes me wonder if at some point it was. I remember living in the south where a lot of white vinegar was used for recipes such as cucumber, onion salads, and pickling. How much petroleum, wood etc., did/are people ingesting just through cheap vinegar? Yikes!

I'm now completely off all dairy, eggs, gluten, chia seeds, tree nuts, and peanuts. This is all in the last 8 months. It sucks, but the good news, I'm feeling better, I'm not so tired, my allergies and asthma have improved greatly and I've lost 14 lbs. Now if I can get the flareup of diverticulitus to go away, I'd be doing really good. I had a major stresser this past week and it flared up.

I believe the earlier gentleman was referring to the blurriness when we were watching her coat the pork chops. When she was putting her hand on the tray to put them down and then bring another one over the picture become blurry. That's because of the close ranger of the shot. if you would go out just a little further to compensate for the movement of her hand coming in and out of the picture your camera could handle it. I like all of the video shot before and after the baking video.
