It's crazy that this show does in a half hour what others can't do in multiple seasons. Create believable human connections with characters, and make them likeable and believable in their motives. Not an easy feat.
mad respect for Zeff, most people can say that they would do the same for a kid in that situation, but how many could actually go through that? Zeff truly is one the most badass characters in the one piece world
I like this backstory, but I think I would have tried fishing. The bag of riches had enough stuff to make a rod and those shinny jewels would have attracted some type of sea life. Then again in this world, that sea dragon thing we saw in episode two isn't something you'd want come towards you.
@@lypreila7913 Nope, even in uncensored version, still had a different story line. Zeff's leg got stuck in an anchor when saving Sanji underwater. And he never said he ate his own leg. @@lypreila7913 Me too as well, my memories seemed to be mixed between manga and anime until finally I re-watched episode 26 😅 and yeah, they literally changed it about Zeff's leg.
watching this review and hearing you talk about how emotional sanji and zeff's departure got you-it made me appreciate zeff and sanji's actors a lot more; but especially sanji, because i noticed how amazing his acting was there. I'M SO GLAD TOO BECAUSE SANJI IS LIKE MY FAVORITE CHARACTER IN THE ANIME SO I'M SO FREAKING GLAD TO HAVE SUCH A GOOD ACTOR PLAYING HIS CHARACTER. and i really hope to see sanji's actor play these future scenes i'm thinking of AND I WANNA SEE HOW HE PORTRAYS THEM, EVEN IF IT DEVIATES A BIT FROM THE ORIGINAL, I LOVE SANJI SO MUCH
I love that detail about Garp: every single time he gets pissed off about Luffy, he ends up laughing hysterically because he can't help but be proud at the same time
I'm relatively new to One Piece myself, but I kinda get the impression that his manic laughter is him being proud of his grandson's ginormous balls and irrepressible chutzpah.
Buggy's missing ear is really easy to miss during his appearance in ep3 - his headband is pulled down far enough to cover the missing ear, and you won't really question it until you go and rewatch the episode knowing what happens in this episode. This is actually a beautiful, and I assume intentional, wink at the source material - Oda leaving breadcrumbs all over his story that you don't really notice, or even can notice, until a reread with knowledge of much further down the line (and I am saying breadcrumbs instead of foreshadowing, since he never planned to let the story go on for as long as it did and still does. He was just very smart in giving himself options to extend it beautifully ... well, there is still A LOT of foreshadowing, just not everything)
There's this thing that happens over and over in One Piece of making your family. Zeff might not be related to him by blood, but he is the truest father Sanji has. One Piece is about freedom, and some of that freedom is finding people and choosing them as the ones we love.
I'm glad you enjoyed Sanji and Zeff's backstory and goodbye and the reveal of who Nami has been working for! Sanji's backstory is probably one of my favorites in the series bc of just how hard it hits and how clearly it shaped who Sanji is as an adult and his entire life philosophy (feeding anyone who's hungry no matter who they are bc he knows EXACTLY what it's like to starve). Also, I love what an attentive reviewer you are and how clearly engaged you are with what you're watching. You catch so many details and ask great questions based on the context clues you're picking up, and it makes me look forward to seeing you watch everything unfold as the series continues!
Little Sanji should have used a little sense when he saw the bag. It was still the same size and there was not any trash surrounding him either. If there was food in the bag after 70 days it would be rotten and not safe to eat.
Garp laughing while trashing the place gave me the impression that laughter is his personal way of coping with frustration and anger. Like... it's maybe a way he has of not completely lose himself in his emotions. This is just my own interpretation, even if I know where the story goes this facet of Garp's character is also new to me, i don't remember him acting in this specific way in the anime/manga. Also can I just say.... the Delivery on that last "HELLO BOOOOYYYSSS" from Buggy was simply perfect, the tone + the expression just made made burst in laugher. Huge Props to the actor for that.
The live action actually made me love Sanji. I’m not a huge fan of what I saw of him in the anime. His specific character trope was annoying. But the live action actually made me like him. His backstory is still so brutal though. And thus, the reveal. I can not wait until next episode.
Out of all the One Piece live action reaction channels I have been checking out, yours has been the most fun to watch so far. I am really happy to see you enjoying my favorite series.
Sanji's backstory hits so hard. I’m glad that for the zeff-eating-his-own-leg scene, they’re staying true with the manga version. Good lord, that was brutal. The kid actors really did a great job portraying the emotions in the backstories for such a young age.
God I loved this episode, im glad your on the full Nami train and trusting she did her best to protect Luffy and save him from death. I honestly am soooooo hyped for you to get to the next episode!

Man, I really liked how you appreciates the music score in this live action. That's one thing that the anime actually do best (especially OP's "Overtaken" OST) and this adaptation up it one bit with original scores that fit perfectly with every scenes. Such an amazing production, overall!!!
interesting note; in the manga Zeff ate his leg while the anime decided to tone it down and made Zeff lose his leg saving Sanji from the ocean got his leg stuck in the process
yeah this show definitely trust it's source material quality 100% and doesn't make fun of the quirkiness of the world but respect it and embrace it wholeheartedly
@MikeyVenture, 11:02 That meant a lot to Zeff. Remember what Sanji said about Zeff being known for the blood of his enemies on his boots? Zeff's feet were his weapon of choice, and he gave one up to save Sanji's life. As a cook, he believed hands were meant for cooking. Zeff ended up raising Sanji as we've seen and Sanji learned how to fight from Zeff. How does Sanji fight? With his feet! His hands are either in his pocket or supporting him, we don't see him using his hands in fights. All of these backstories are tragic and they are all hitting. The saddest story for me, however, is Usopp's. The guy lives in his own delusions of grandeur. He grew up without a father and he didn't have much of a mother either. His mother was sickly and bedridden. Usopp ran around town yelling the pirates were coming because he wanted his dad to come back and fix his life, enabling him to be like everyone else on the island, thriving with an actual family. Even after his mother passed, he kept at it because that's all he had, the hope of his father's return. Kaya's illness was a bit of a lifeline for him as she was his only friend, the only person in town who'd hear his stories, and the only person who'd treat him with any kind of respect. Kaya's condition likely made it easier for Usopp to bond with her, as she likely reminded him of his mother. Usopp is still the child he once was trapped in the body of an adult. He needs these adventures to help him escape his internal prison and to finally grow as a person. With the exception of Usopp our heroes have managed to move past their trauma. I wonder how long it'll take him to get there? This team did a really good job of putting these stories together. 18:16 I didn't think about this until now, but how in the world did Buggy survive the trip?! Seawater punishes those who've eaten Devil Fruit, no unique abilities and they lose the ability to swim. There's no way Buggy could have held his breath the entire way, right? Luffy was struggling to hold his own breath in the tank filling up with seawater in episode two. These stories continue to get better and better. I look forward to your next upload =)

not saying there isn't more to garp, but just think about how he reacted when luffy evaded him last time. garp is a high rank marine and his stupidly stubborn grandson decides to go after shanks instead and basically become his grandpa's enemy, so garp is incredibly frustrated.
Literally Luffy is me as a child, Always friendly with people until they showed me reason to be otherwise. I also very much have that "I'm lay back most the time, but mess with those close to me and see what happens." loyalty. No joke, one time on a road trip, these idiots are weaving through traffic. They almost hit us but that's not the funny part... We stop at a gas station to fuel up a while later, same car come zooming in and parks at the pump behind us. I was in the restroom at the time me dad started to lecture them on their driving, only to walk out and see this twig of a man in basketball shorts, trying to talk shit to my dad. Spoiler alert, I'm a daddy's girl and didn't take too kindly to his tone. The guy didn't even notice me walk up behind him as he was talking. Then he practically jumped out of his pants when I suddenly said to him "You talking shit to my dad?!" XD It was hilarious because he tries to recompose himself and intimidate me but he was barely a few inches taller. He was such a punk that he just kept posturing and saying shit like "I dare you to hit me."... Obviously I didn't and walked away from his tantrum. Yeah, Like that would go well. A 300-something pound tank of a woman, against a scrawny punk, that wasn't even the actual driver. His friend who was the driver was just standing there like he was going to back him up but in the end, they just got in their car and drove off. Best part.... They left their drink on the roof of the car and it spilled as they left the parking lot! XD Needless to say, Luffy feels like my spirit animal at times like this.

They only CG the stuff you can't do prostetics for (luffy stuff, buggy stuff, big eel episode 2). The thing about the prostetics is like the close ups are flawless as well. It makes me think of something like "flaunt it if you got it" with their skills tied to the costumes. Like they're so seemless that they're just showing off at this point lmfao.
I know it's controversial nowadays but some kids some times need a good smacking. As a parent I've never done it myself but I seen some kids that could use an old fashion attitude adjustment that a time out or calm talking to just s won't fix in the same way😂😂
I'm still trying to figure out when Buggy put his ear in the hat....go back to episode 3 when Arlong talks to him...Buggy still has both ears...so when and how did he get the ear to Luffy's hat? and how did he know where to look for him...I'm gonna put it down to a mistake in the production.
You can't really see his right ear in episode 3, his headband is always covering that part of his head. And he most likely put his ear on the hat when he had it while Luffy was unconscious and being put in the Water Tank in episode 2. So I would say that this twist was pretty much planned and well done.
Some my say this is a spoiler but by the time it happens you'll probably never remember I said this but the story Nami is reading to Zoro is relevant farther along in the One Piece story.
even with the back story, but the actors dont have some kind of synergy? charisma? idk what the perfect word is , what i mean is both of their act are very good, this series all actor act very good, some scene is cringy but i can look pass that.

So I would say that this twist was pretty much planned and well done.
jajasjs SORRY BURPY
trust me not every devil fruit is worth it..there are a lot of usless once XD
Some my say this is a spoiler but by the time it happens you'll probably never remember I said this but the story Nami is reading to Zoro is relevant farther along in the One Piece story.
🦾
even with the back story, but the actors dont have some kind of synergy? charisma? idk what the perfect word is , what i mean is both of their act are very good, this series all actor act very good, some scene is cringy but i can look pass that.

It’s a copyright thing so it doesn’t trip TH-cam’s ID check system
