I am 86 now and not used to your writing letters,, I was going to say I was the fireman at Crewe and loved every bit of it, and my father was there 49 years on the fireman/driver. It was a tough dirty job , and I fired for Jack Mills in the 1950s before the Great Train Robbery.. I think I am out of time now.

I was the efireman at Crewe in 1947/ 1955 there were 2 streamliners still in use then. I did fire engines to Glasgow and London , were tough to Glasgow , up Shap and forgotten how to spell Beakon. I didn’t see much of it busy shovelling. It was a smashing job thinking back , and memories most trips were interesting. Some engines were tough somewhere easy but the fireman had to find out quick what was the problem.
I. Could go on and on., hope not boring for you.. I am 86 now so it did no harm hard work..

Thanks for sharing this :D I captured the Duchess at Sherburn in Elmet and returned to try and capture Union of South Africa but after waiting for a long time beyond her due time someone informed me that she was still in the sidings at York ! So I headed home and missed seeing her :( So I am glad you have captured some great footage of her . Was she late ?

Another man that was waiting said he was going because she was still in York but I do not know how he knew that ? Is there a fancy ap or something ??

She slipped :) what the driver did was probably opened her up too much putting loads of power into the cylinders and making the wheels slip :)
