So far I've loved both the raider and settler quest lines. However, as you walk around the two towns, the passive dialog tells a vary important story. In Foundation, it's all about building a safe place for a future. They even want to get more chickens so they can have a sustainable chicken farm. In the Crater it's all about setting up ambush sites and steeling from others. Do the raiders have some redeeming qualities? Sure they do. At the end of the day however, they would rather use violence to take the fruits of others labors rather then working hard themselves.
Whenever I have to make a choice like this in a game, I always try to go with what I think my character would do. My main would much rather side with and help the people trying to build a community rather then side with thieves. That said, I am planing a character that will side with the raiders.
On the one hand, I want to get the most out of this DLC. On the other hand, I don't want to leave Appalachia to a bunch of plundering barbarians. Yet, they are not quite like your usual lazy-ass raiders, considering that they also farm mirelurk meat and sell it. The crater raiders are truly an odd bunch, but I have the feeling they would eventually turn everything to crap. As barbarians tend to.

But the raiders do send you to kill those who left the gang, that is not something "decent people just trying to survive in this hard new world" would do, even the yakuza only take a finger or something like that.
Well, they never said you had to kill them. I never killed a raider defector, just threatened them and sent them on their way. They usually end up dying from some random enemy
They have you deal with free loaders and flakes, people that take stuff and bail, to send a message to knock it off
You can choose to spare those people and try to make them re-join the Raider gang and they will be fine woth it
just push them to join foundation. then lie to the raider quest giver. forgot her name.
Rocksy. I just threaten for caps. But if I was feeling like a dick after the shake down even though they are not hostile I could just open fire and kill them and then take whatever else they had which is classic raider.
When 76 was released, I remember seeing all the dead raider corpses and feeling...sad. There wasn't any mention of a Wastelanders dlc at the time, so the game made me feel lonely to the point where I wished those corpses were still alive. With that in mind, how could I side with the annihilation of the faction that I wished to be alive? I'm team raider for life!
Next on Oxhorn: Why the Foundation are ultimatly evil because they allied themselves with the Hornwrights.

I sided with both, but since the choice doesn't even really matter. It's a lot easier to just max out both before doing the main quest
Raiders come off mean but the more you help them they actually become nicer than most settlers
I was 100% raiders, then I decided to run through all the settler missions to bring them to the same point and give them the benefit of the doubt. Then in the final mission I work with remnants of the US Army to help the Settlers and so begins my conundrum. I am former military, so I am always drawn to the BOS... and these three grunts are pulling me towards the settlers. Also, Penny and Jen are as interesting as Ra Ra and Johnny... so both sides have superb characters. Ugh...
I feel similarly. Enjoyed the Penny and Jen stories. I want the free legendary plasma rifle, so will probably choose raiders, but yeah, not an easy decision.
Yknow I saw some settler above my camp like SURVEYING the area or whatever, and when I asked them whats a good place to settle and they said “right here” I thought they were implying they were gonna steal my CAMP. Its a good thing they were taking about camden park though

I screwed over the settlers when I got the gold. I thought that they’d get their own supply instead of me having to give them some of mine. That’s the disappointing part about this update.

Went with the crater and only thing I'm bummed about is that I gave foundation half of meg's gold thinking it might do something but nope. Looking forward to future 76 dlc since wastelander was a decent update and hopefully they do more for late game players since there's still nothing to really do
The new thing to do is grind a lot for the new really good gear, so maybe a hard raid will come out
usually i always hated the raiders, in nuka world i just ended up killing them all but in this game they seem more human, probably because most of them are pre war people which would make sense as to why first generation raiders arent as brutal and are more easy going. The blood eagles seem to represent more of the kinds of raiders we seem to find later on in games like FO3, FO4 and FNV. But now knowing all of this it truly was kind of hard picking a side, because the raiders honestly werent that bad

My immersion and roleplay say Settlers, but coolboi points say Raiders.
I genuinely want to join the Settlers solely because that's who I would join IRL, but the Raiders in this game aren't the same chem addicted murderers in other games. Yes, they're still violent, but Meg and her raiders are so far the only raiders in the entire Fallout franchise where I can sit down and at least talk about business.
If I took in roleplay and immersion into consideration, my personality within a world like this would either stay neutral or join the Raiders, any chance where I joined Settlers would be a Grimlock-Autobots scenario in which I can have disagreements and arguments with many Settlers but I genuinely know that what they stand for is indeed the right thing.
The khans I felt were another semi understandable raider faction that had their history and a bit grey morality

why not choose one character and then start a second character for the opposite faction.
I am having side characters but this one is my main character and is the most important to me.

If everything was account based not character based I would consider it. I hate the idea of making a new character. Got no time for that.
Ancient_One ikr, it took me a week to get to level 25 on my main. Not gonna do that on a brand new account
I really regret siding with the settlers because of there incredibly boring passive dialogue it's either have you seen my tools this or i hate foggy weather that. They don't comment on your weapons or armour if your looking for interesting dialogue give the settlers are hard pass.
They comment on weapons or power armor. Letting the player know at a glance they are using a sniper rifle or if the power armor has some dings meaning repairs. Both sides comment on drug use if you happen to have a pill icon on the screen. It's dumb to make that comment if one has taken rad-x.
I was walking around foundation in power armor and a settler said “need a can opener for that amor?”
Honestly I did raiders and everyone betrays you it got old real fast. I was gonna take the gold for myself in the end anyway but I didn’t feel bad whatsoever after everything played out. I really liked johnnys character the most. Even tho he was the BIGGEST dick I let him live.... for now
I did really enjoy the Chinese story arc tho. That was some sickkkkkk content 🇨🇳

What about when you get to Ally status with one side? Can you then switch to Ally status with the other side eventually?
for my "good" character i chose to side with the settlers because although i like the raiders and want to max affinity with them, the settlers are the best hope for the future. Let me explain: the settlers are mostly comprised of hard workers who have pre war experience, just look at foundation it may not be as creative as the crater but its built to last, as well the people are mostly self sufficient not really relying on anyone else but themselves. the raiders however are very reliant on settlers to prey of of, sure the raiders have a farm but most of them probably wont resort to producing there own food. The fact that raiders rely on settlers to keep them above water isn't a very good business practice. what if they revolt? what if the settlers get wiped out? the way i see it the settlers are the best hope for rebuilding Appalachia witch is the ultimate goal. Thats just my opinion though.
I totally disagree it is usually the assholes that create nations. The ones that try to be good guys get wiped out. Just look at history. Gangus Khan, Nepoleon etc. Basicaly it often goes like this. It starts with warlords that form small feudal kingdoms. They totally subject their people. Then as their kingdom grows, they find they need the goodwill of the common man to stay in power. As time goes on and a nation is formed. The common man gets more rights, representation and privilages and the government gets more sophisticated. It is often the psychopath that forms nations. I think it is very likely that the raiders have a better chance of forming a nation then the foundation.

The Raider faction in Wastelanders are quite honestly like the Pirates in the Pirates of the Caribbean movies. They talk an awful lot about raiding and attacking settlers, but they never seem to do it. The only Raiders I have ever seen actively raiding are the Blood Eagles. When I encounter Faction Raiders in the wild they're mostly fighting off animals, bugs or other assorted creatures (Scorched, Ferals and Super Mutants). Even the daily quest to hunt down a former Raider can end with you doing little more than giving them a stern lecture, the quest giver at Crater couldn't care less, and you're still rewarded for your efforts.
All that being said I had access to the PTS in the final 2 weeks or so the servers were active and in playing through the story on two of my higher level characters I sided with Foundation both times, the first time was not for any deep philosophical reasons, I just wanted to steamroll through the main story and get to the end as quickly as possible. The second time I just wanted to see what if anything changed with my faction reputation is I divvied up the gold at the end differently (My first time I split Foundation's share between them and Crater) my second time through I gave Foundation their full share if I had been able to complete a 3rd playthrough I still would have sided with Foundation but this time I would have kept the gold for myself.
Sure, if you ignore the dismembered corpses they decorate their camps with.
Lmao they do actual raid and kill innocent people.
They also have lots of dead bodies decorating their camps.
If you walk around the crater, you will hear raiders talk about running out of supplies and needing to rob people soon.
You walk around foundation, you hear them talking about honest work and wanting to rebuild and create a better future for everyone.
Sure the crater raiders are likeable and not like other raiders.
But they are still evil and only care about themselves.
The meg's raiders aren't like the others, they don't kill as soon as they see you,only when they need it (for example when they are out of food or stuff like that).
So I would rather join them for three points:
1.they are like a family :]
2.they aren't like the other raiders faction of fallout, they are more "pacifist" then the others
3. *spoiler* at the end of the main quest, Meg atleast say to you "thank you, you did a good job", GUESS WHAT PAIGE SAY?!? He say "We want it, WE
did everything" and I was like:"YOU?!? you just watched me doing everything and getting killed by 200 robots and 100 ghouls.
So obiuvsly I stay with raiders, MEG FOREVER SHE IS THE BEST LEADER :)))
And for a bonus point I join them even because I made my main character like a raider medic that help other raiders with syringer, by healing them etc etc.
In a beginners guide I would mainly encourage everyone to play all of the missions for both factions up to the point before you break into vault 79 and then decide which faction you want to break into the vault with. I didn’t do that and missed out on some free plans and weapons but more importantly the pre vault main story quest lines give more reputation which is ultimately what you’ll be grinding for post 79 mission. That and treasury notes for gold bullion. And believe me the grind is a long one to gain reputation for the faction you didn’t choose. The reputation is what eventually gives you access to the plans and I believe there are 4 reputation levels
Solid advice. I missed out on some side raider action and a special helmet because npcs popped up dead before I could actually make a choice on what to do with the Wayward/free Radical side.
That's what I did . Did both all the way to the end where you choose a side.
I know it would be something of a retcon probably, but I could see the Brotherhood of Steel bringing the Raiders into their ranks in the future

I went with Settlers since I like their goals better. I also chose to split the gold with the Settlers and Raiders even though many sources recommend taking all the gold because I rather do public events for treasury notes than go do fetch quests for the Settlers and Raiders.
A tip is get the stealth suit before finishing the dlc I made that mistake and am paying with time
Man I can't handle the ambient noise at the crater...especially those dam cicadas! I think my choice has been made for me. Plus I'm curious about that well and I hope you can rapidly collect dirty water from it unlike rusty sink which is slow as all hell. If you can collect water at the same speed as open water that'll be awesome and I can pretty choose anywhere to camp with out worrying about water.
Instead of one getting gold and or the other this is a option that both can get 250 but you must convince whoever is holding the other side hostage so instead of geting 1000 for myself i did the lesser of two evils I picked both to get 250 if you do this yes you will have less gold to start with but you get rep with both of them so all and all i was the good guy because the real danger isn’t them its the scorched
So I’m at the part where I talk to them about the vault and I accidentally decided to go with the raiders. Will this inhibit me from getting the Chinese stealth armor? If so then fuck but it’s a video game so oh well. Just curious thats all.
I chose Settlers for Chinese Stealth armor. But, it sucks because stealth doesn't seem to work too well after this update. Hopefully, Bethesda will fix stealth.
I've heard several reports of players struggling with stealth recently. Went and played with my own stealth characters and had no problems at all so wondering if there's some sort of trigger, if it's just on certain worlds or just effecting certain players. The team at Bethesda do seem to know about it at least so, whatever the issue ends up being, hopefully it gets patched sometime soon.

I choose Raiders and got the Chines Stealth armor. I also did all the quests for both sides right up to the end when I had to choose ,and I chose the Raiders.

This was a really hard decision for me as well. Like you, my first instinct was Settlers. I was NOT going to support Raiders, etc. - but as i did the quest lines, i found myself sympathizing with the Raiders more and more. My final decision was made when i came upon on one of the final quests. I just couldn't go forward with that faction any more.. But, now, after i made my decision, i am glad that i can still go back and become an Ally with them both.
Both sides were clearly well put together, in order to make it a decision that had real weight for the player. Got to give credit to the writers for ensuring both sides were desirable.
Do you have to make a totally new game 2 become allies with the raiders if you picked the foundation I’m trying to get both achievements on xbox
You can Ally with both, just got to keep doing Dailes after the story
I personally went with the settlers because I feel like they're going to use the gold for a better purpose compared to the Raiders

Nope they two are same, raider want to use the gold to drive their enemies away from appalachia and settler want to use the gold to make the foundation stronger
the musketeer I got Paige to agree to the Overseer’s plan and to share with the Raiders. The Settlers respect the “peace” I established, the Overseer felt I did the right choice a true Overseer would make, the Raiders were iffy at first, but realized it meant more caravans and people to rob.

Nuka World was fun so siding with the raiders was the obvious choice for me.
Honestly there was only one group from Nuka World i’d ever keep around, the Operators. They could at least become a fully fledged mercenary group, it’s all about the caps for them. The disciples or whatever those wackos were could go screw themselves. Those painted furries? Give them some LSD and a rave den, won’t see them for a while.
you can get all faction stuff. just stop with the main quest once you're on the part where you need to select a side. just continue the dailies to increase rep. once you get all stuff, then continue the main quest. but for the sake of selection, i kinda like raiders for now. molly is hot! lol

I went with the settlers on my main mainly because I rp on him and he is a guy that does everything in life to protect others the way I spun it was I did the 3 way split and rp that it was a peace treaty between foundation and crater can’t stop the raiders from raiding but we can protect foundation people and limit the casualties
I am at that point as well trying to decide which side . the thing I struggle with in this game is caps and plains for you beginning guide oh trying to find all the plants and location of all the plants you need to craft medicines and food nobody has made a guide for plant locations or rather I have not seen that type of guide.

Like everyone said, raiders are actually more social and helpful, they are all about loyalty and team work. Settlers are all about building a foundation off material, raiders building off people.
There is no bad choice it really comes down to the NPC's, the settlement and the quests. Literally picking cause if good vs evil is stupid and flat out wrong. Not sure doing to be evil and both are going to be good.

I finished the raider side you want to know. All I will say now is. I'm just like you I wanted to choose the faction which I know would use the gold best and what I expected meg would do is what she does. I'm not gone tell more.

I always end up playing all fallout games as the Eastwood "Man with no name". Which is why I'll have no reservations screwing the settlers out of the gold when breaking in with them! Just have to be charming enough to keep on working with both sides after to get all that's mine.
so the only thing that happens is who you give a cut to and what big boost of rep you get yes both missions are different but the ending is the same plus if you helped both get to the vault heist you can tell them to leave half of the faction cut to both and you get your full amount or you say no I am keeping it all witch only lowers your rep a little most say that better because it a new money system that can be a real grind
I chose settlers because that Chinese stealth armor is very scary for just how effective it is without any perks and actually has armor unlike your traditional radsuits. there is also farmable dirt tiles. I really love those, it made my garden much more organized. Gauss mini gun and the ammo forge will have to be grinded for. yes, you can have it all.
Ammi forge and gaus minigun is when you side with raiders..😉

You get the stealth armour before making a choice, you can literally get it, then side with the raiders, that's exactly what i did.

@@batuhan5364 I choose Raiders and got the Chines Stealth armor. I also did all the quests for both sides right up to the end when I had to choose ,and I chose the Raiders.
They recently brought up that the BOS may be coming to the WVA. That could have repercussions if you chose the raiders, but who knows? Personally, I was in the same boat. I am a settler type of guy, but the raiders personality was too notch IMHO. So, I wired with the raiders on my main character.
I am hoping there will be more consequences down the line.
Reputation is easy to grind and accumulated. When the time comes keep all the gold to yourself
tbh, it's not that much of a big deal. Nothing serious really happens. It just makes you get the affinity rewards a bit faster with the faction you chose. But I do tell people to complete the setlers quest at least until they get the Chinese Stealth Armor.
Is there any other way to get Chinese stealth armor without siding with settlers?
I think you can max out reputation with the Settlers after and then buy the plan for the suit with gold (is pretty expensive though)

It took alot longer to get full rep for foundation but I think I messed it up and can't go into the vault with foundation I don't want to do it with Raiders on how do I get the mission to go in with foundation
If you've already accepted the vault mission with the Raiders then it's too late. If you've not got to that point yet make sure you've done the Overseer quests, helped out Rose and talk to Meg.

I picked foundation. I needed the stealth armor to complete my stealth archer build.
I am just really stressed out that I can’t do any more quests with the settlers cause if you start this I don’t know they’re gonna feel betrayed or something and they won’t let you win and that shit just really fucking stresses me out. You know what I mean, and I have to do that one with the mother Mine, you know what you have to nuke it but I don’t have that I don’t have anything I think I might be just in over my head
Just get to the point of no return with each first, then you've got all you can done sorted

Sort of but not entirely. You will have to make a choice when you get to the final stage but there's still a sort of middle ground available.

I chose raiders because you can buy an ammo making machine and gauss minigun if you get max reputation
I thought of siding with the Raiders for safe crack and then rip them off buy taking all the money. If I side with the settlers I will more then likely give them a share. What did others do? What effect if any do you see as a result?
Okay I sided with the Settlers and shared the gold for the experience increase with both factions.

I hesitated all but 1 second. I have 4 characters lvl 100+, 2 for each factions. I have finished both side now. I have 2 characters left but am waiting before i use them, you never know what the next update is going to bring...

As long as you do the settler missions before the actual vault raid. That or waiting a while to get high enough rep with the settlers and then spending a boat load of gold on the plans.
I thought Settlers is the best lore choice but Raiders are the best rewarded choice.
You can just get the Chinese Stealth Armor by temporarily helping the settlers, while as with the raiders to get the ammo terminal & weapons you need high reputation.
the best stuff you can get is independent of the faction you choose

I sided with the raiders because my buddy did the settlers.
We don't know the outcome of our decisions but once we're both max rep levels we'll probably find out who chose for the better
I plan on doing two characters which Focuses on one of these Factions, For the Raider build I might even do the Clown build!

Megaton an the Crater, good reference. There is only another place in Fallout franchise that is the result of Post Apocaliptia in all ways, the Divide. / Keep up the gopd fight!

Megaton is my favorite location In 3 and in my top 6 settlements in fallout games
I like the Crater and Settlement but I like the Crater more. Atleast visually. Also the Toxic Valley and the Mire are my top 2 zones in 76 so...the choice is semi easy for me. I'm really just wanting both maxed rep
It would be pretty flipping messed up and lazy if we couldn't change factions. If Ward can do it why not us!

I've already chosen the raiders.
My question is I'm trying to get the stealth suit but I'm stuck on the tradeing spaces mission.
Its telling me to search the hornright hq but when I go to the basement I cant find anything is it bugged
The raiders seem to have more of their named NPCs die thought the story unless you choose the settlers but they are way more interesting
I gave it a lot of though, and went with the Raiders, aside from the fact that i like the rewards. They feel much more like people actually trying to live with the struggles of a post apocalyptic world, the Foundation just wants the gold for themselves and that's it, not to mention, they are pretty boring when it comes to npc interaction
I originally wanted to go with settlers however when I did the prep missions for raiders it bugged out so I could only raiders, honestly was worth it.
Definitely worked out well that way round

I think i go with raiders. The only reason is because i want the grauss minigun and the ammunitionthing. But besides that i would rather join the settlers. I wish i could get these rewards from the raiders and than leave them.in the dust and go to the settlers

I didn't want to side with any of them. Specialy returning this corrupted gold to world. It's like we burned a world and returning the same world what was before. Like again we give importance for this piece of metal. And it's not fallout lore friendly 😓
And second - the gold is nothing in this world, anymore. Considering what even after 200 years all are using caps. It seems nothing worked out with gold.
How about a little Clarity
Actually caps is a new thing, You come out of the vault 25 years after the war. In fo4 its around 250 years or so " Caps has become the standard due to ease of use. You have to look at the time lines between games " They sort of rounded the numbers which makes sense lore wise. And caps just made it easier to cart around, better than trying to put a hundred brahmin in your pocket lol. And each version of the game is a different Timeline. They just worked a earlier version of the game here is all. Sort of a beginning.
And as for Gold..... even in the real world...... Gold doesn't back our money and hasn't in several decades. True we still have Gold standards but money is now based off of a Debt system why we have a credit system like we have. And even that is changing again. It use to be that you build credit by paying off Debts, that changed some time ago, and now it's about having more debt to pay off but only using a certain amount of credit to do so. It's a balancing act.
And Gold like money is an inanimate object. It has neither life nor thinking. ( there's and old saying about how money is the root of all evil' But that's wrong ) It's the thinking behind money. You could make any inanimate object the root of all evils. Gold isn't corrupt, Only people's way of thinking about it.
It is us Humans that even gives gold its rarity, and money it's Greed. Monies or any trade good is just a means to and end. Having more or less of it doesn't make you richer or poorer. Only in the way people see and think about it. You can be rich without money and be a pauper on a street corner, or you can have all the money and gold in the world and be just as poor.
In reality you can side with any one of the groups and still work with both. ( Be what you want to be in the game. Enjoy the Game or find another )
Just like being a Knight Errant in the game it's a title, nothing more. Nor does it give you any Privileges like you get with some titles in real life. Your more of a Diplomat and still a Lone Wanderer, Bargaining your way through the game and appeasing one or the other but nether. In the end it's just you, and the friends you made along the way in the game.
You really are the X Factor in the scheme of things in the game. And wear shall we say many hats.... Your both Raider and Settler, Builder and Destroyer, Judge and Jury and Executioner. Yet it's all about choices you make on what you want to become. Or what outcome you want, the game gives you many choices....It's What do you want to become in the end, is the question set before you. And why you can make more than one char. or toon in the game, so you can play it a different way, see it in a different light so to speak.
The one thing in the game I dislike the most is the lousy build system. Fallout 4 had a better build system and it took modder's to fix it to were it was better to use in that game. Here we don't get that luxury. Like DayZ this game will get patched till it dies. It's already mostly Patches since I started playing it in Pre Beta. All fallout players ever wanted was a coop system so we could play with our friends, now we have fallout 1rst, and that is even overpriced. Guess if it was priced right, everyone would quit the main game and go to the coop version's. Though even those are still glitchy due to the old and outdated engine they used.
Both will eventually get to max rep but what I think got me to side with the Settlers is the fact that Gentleman shoots his friends. Three disconnects from the game only to have Hal get shot by him. What a let down.

It is 2024, and i still haven't decided which side to pick.
I'd recommend Raiders myself, but make sure to do both sides up until the point where you have to make a choice

since i'm watching this several months later, i'm not sure how useful it would be, but i'm about level 44 and still struggling with having enough caps and not dying after only a few hits. plus, the harder enemies like yao guai, snallygasters, wendigos, and sheepsquatches are crazy hard. like i'm dying multiple times before beating one of them. surviving this kind of stuff and being able to afford enough ammo to do so would be hella useful in a beginner's guide.

Sounds like you might just be needing to work on your build a little, figure out what kind of play style you're wanting to go for and getting the right legendaries to make it work

I mean the stories are pretty in depth in the Crater, I chose raider because they remind me of the Theives Guild in Skyrim, they are straight forward and upfront, even when you talk to Meg, she says, "Yeah at least if we want something we will just tell you up front, not like that b@#$h Rose.." plus passive dialogue from some raiders say "It's never a quick job, quick jobs are shoot first and ask questions later... But that's not Meg's way..." And even still, Weasel is a good example, because why would a group want a person who would snitch all over the place to people, and help her with the Vox Translator. Still both factions are neat, but I chose Crater because everyone is expected their fair share and they seem close knit like a strange family on a road trip.
