I crossed the ocean to see Phish, but that was 25 years ago. I saw them for the first time in December of '95, then went to the Clifford Ball in August of '96. My next 5 Phish shows were in Europe in February of '97, and my airfare back then I believe was around $300 from Boston to London round trip. Just saw my 92nd show earlier this month.
My first was shoreline 90. Last Prague Czech republic Copenhagen Denmark and Big Cypress Seminole Indian reservation. Tucson Arizona Sonoran desert 🏜️🌵 yes I 🍄🍄🍄🍻
My first Melt. Was on the lawn caught in a time loop and this was the soundtrack as the colors of my vision got all smudged and watercolored. “What the fuck??? What…. The….. Fuck???!!” says I. Trey is the greatest guitar player of all time. There’s probably some days that go by that Trey plays more notes than he says words. King. 👑🎸
I was there! This was my fourth show. The security guy knew me from a previous concert at the Mann and let me into the Prime section. I casually made my way to first row Page Side. So now the only thing between me and Phish is the pit. This song was playing while I was up there. It was such a beautiful experience. I could see the lighting rigs move during Melt. So trippy. This was the Set 1 closer. There's nothing like bathing in the sound and light of a concert from up close.
Was watching them play this at deer creek in 2004 and my wife, who by then I had turned on to phish and Trey band and had gone to probably 40 shows with me said, "this is literally just him making random noises on his guitar". Kind if hard to argue that.
The way this resonated in the Pav was outrageous. That room has some of the best sound to it. I love what this band does here. Please for the love of all that is holy do not go back to camden.
the bass and acoustics were pretty awesome in the pavilion weren't they? The only thing I like better about Camden is that terrain is more wheelchair friendly.
this song is so sinister i love it so much. Coventry was an overall shit show and Trey was at his worst but this song really really captures the emotion that was being felt at that place in time
Man I love this band since 97. Won’t stop no matter what the haters say and they seem to be in every thread. For a bunch of dudes that are hyper critical they spend a lot of time listening. If they suck go listen to someone else and spare us your critiques. We don’t care what your opinion is.
Fish always knows exactly what to play, if a jam calls for a simpler more laid back groove then that's what he does (although that's definitely not what happened with the DWD in Bangor haha)
As a drummer of 42 years, I applaud you and your phine sense of wtf is actually going on in the ever evolving progression of Fishman. I also love this current laid-back, tasty, pocket playing. I read posts of people actually complaining about his current playing, saying how he peaked years ago, yada yada yada... I'm completely dumbfounded. Fishman has not peaked, no wait, he's peaked a lot, but his playing has not peaked!!! Also, age is not the culprit here. I fully believe he's capable of raging like he did throughout the 90's, but that's not what is currently called for... and I'm thankful for that. I really dig the dialed back a notch, sexy, funky, groove of the boy's. The only thing that is potential problem is Paiges sandwich consumption, which can lead to further gout, and fuck up tour.
Interesting. Mind expanding on that a bit? I’ve always had a bit of an aversion to pic bass players and prefer finger players like geddy, flea, George Porter Jr, Jaco etc. I did see an interview in which Mike said he straight up copped Phil Lesh’s sound who was also a pic player and could be pretty funky at times. I think Mike is way better than Phil - don’t hate on me dead heads. I also think Mike didn’t use a pic in the early years but I could be wrong.
@@rbjax2001 i honestly just think the tone and chunkiness of the picking isnt as pleasant as a nice firm sound of fingerpicking. i love hearing tony and dezron play phish songs with TAB because i get to hear them fingered😭. and Melt is by far one of my favorite phish songs but i always think about how that opening lick would sound without a pick
@@chipsarmijo8864 I could nerd out on this endlessly. I’m a drummer but dabbled in bass and at times think i dig it more than drums. That makes total sense to me I love the note articulation with finger style. Tony was a monster bass player RIP. I just confirmed that mike did play finger style - check out the vid called Amy’s Farm from 91 if you haven’t seen it. Not the greatest quality bit still cool. I also remember loving the bass on Colorado 88 I guess he may have been non-pic then, but the bass is way up in the mix and it’s awesome. Also sounds like 14 people are in the bar lol.
I just poked my head in to check and I'm glad i stopped listening 3 years ago. They sound like crap, 4.0 is boring and redundant, and only the zoomers and chompers are getting off to this stuff.... Also, Trey's "Trainwreck"amp is one of the best amps ever made but in the context of Phish it totally ruins his tone. Watch this comment get deleted by the chomper mods 🙄
@@cironicholas526 Not kidding there are 2-3 jams worth returning to since their return. 8/7/2015 Chalkdust -> Tweezer and Allstate 2018 Everything’s Right (shit song just like all Trey cheese dad folk New Age lyric cliche garbage hilarity) literally the only examples of true collective telepathy of 1997-1999 caliber that I can think of. I mean. It's 2022 and Phish is still laying down stuff like that. They must be the greatest.
SOAMelt is always most likely to go into the most interstellar territory and this was no exception. What a way to finish a set!
“always most likely”
No it’s not.
This was my favorite part of the Mann shows in Philly. I Love a good Melt!

Love Treys loops!
Love the funk, the trippiness, and spaciness!
Best jam I’ve seen in a while!
Oh God. Gordo's intro...
From Steam to Melt it was hot as hell at the Mann...
Ahh I'm still melted from this!!! Thanks for posting

Definitely felt the Splitting and Melting on this one.
And Opening, lots of Opening...
haha yeah it's the best super fun you need to try it!
was there both nights. really good shows
Love Melt, Mike sounds awesome! Love the spaced out tension!
SoaM has to be an all time top 10 Phish tune: great composed parts and a giant jam vehicle.
Not even top 60

Woah, the last 5 minutes or so is seriously top tier shit.

5:00-6:00 minutes in is almost an exact moment from the Hampton 09' split. I had heavy Zappa deja Vu/ conceptional continuity moments!
