As artists these guys are continually creating. Jerry said it best in relation to wrong notes, no pain no gain, this is an experiment. All the darkness in the comments is truly "from your eyes". Ease up people. You could see the same set every time for 45 minutes...or whatever constitutes a concert these days. But these guys create each time, ease up and let them do so.
I concur COMPLETELY. IMO, Phish are BY FAR the best rock band ever. Amazing Melt. The Scents and Subtle Sounds from the 6th is next level,too. Can't wait to see the boys at MSG on the 30th!

Lol I went from 99 summer until 2012 in between phish shows..and my ears could tell how much better they were at their instruments after 12 years... So it's all relative.......
I LOVE it when they get into the darker spaces but I'm not terribly impressed by this particular jam. But I've always been and remain still impressed by their continued willingness to try out new pathes, ideas and possibilities.
I adore Phish. I have for many years and have seen them many times, but man I wish Trey would practice the composed parts before playing these songs. Still many moments of brilliance at their shows, but these composed sections can be painful to listen to. Maybe stick to the more straightforward tunes and just jam them out. I play in a tiny little band in the Caribbean and we practice the shit out of our sets to play for like 50 people so that we don't make mistakes. I'm sure people will keep going either way and I get these are difficult songs to pull off live, but Trey wrote the parts!! Just my 2 cents. I love Phish deeply and I'm glad they're still playing.

...I miss big mushroom head Mike Gordon, and his old bass rig. They keep trying to change and evolve, and the shouldn't. They have so many side projects going on they lost sight of what got them there.....phish fans. Bring back the look and the sound of the late 90's. The light show is still killer.

Yikes! That"s the worst "Spilt Open and Melt" I've ever heard. Short tour with $150-$200 ticket prices. Was hoping the guys would do more than just go through the paces. Low energy, off beat, weak build-up.
Not to sound like a jaded 1.0 vet but this why i go to maybe 1 or 2 shows a year. Ticket prices are insane especially summer tour, yay lets spend $100 on lawn seats. Not to mention the playing is very hit or miss. Personally id rather see them do n extended fall/winter (indoor) shows than the summer tour

The early electronica/avante garde connection I do see but even that has been done better. Tower jam, storage jam especially

Is it just me or has treys playing been getting notably worse and worse. Its weak off tune flubbed filled. Everything up to the jam was horrible.
It’s not you. All the written parts of their classics seem to be only half right and mailed in on guitar. The jams are usually great though.
