I love these videos even though for most of the boots, the process is pretty similar. Nothing is hidden. There's no reason to try to make anything secret when the secret is you're using the best materials, top construction techniques, with really highly skilled craftspeople. The amazing thing is that these don't cost more. It's not a low cost of living area and I'm sure the craftspeople who make these make pretty decent money. It's not like they can just go easily hire more with the skills needed to do the various tasks.
Have you ever considered targeting the Telecom industry? There are tons of guys climbing towers in Walmart boots, sneakers, Van's etc. I think a dedicated "Tower Climber Boot" could sell well at the right price point. Skanked for standing on ladders, legs, struts, etc. Not too tall of a toe for fitting into spaces between the tower's structure. Idk, could be worth looking into. Maybe talk to some guys WAY more experienced than me. There's TONS of old tower dogs out there who know what's up. The industry will only grow and why not instill a tradition of wearing classic, durable, American boots on-site?
Do to a very serious word place injury I require custom made boots. I have always wondered how they where made. Thank you for the insight. Craftsman of the finest order. 5⭐.
Great way to start my Sunday! I love watching the craftsmanship that goes into these boots. It's like a watch, so many different components to construct the end product.
@@nicksboots I called your Customer service number and the representative informed me that your company does not make such 16+ inch tall boots? Please clarify.
At the beginning, when the young gal is dressing all the edges of the leather with that spinning wheel machine.... What exactly is that for, and what does that do for the leather?
*2:12** - **3:20** here? That's a skiving machine. It removes excess material, usually along the edges of each leather piece. It bevels the edges of the parts that will be turned over and glued, to form a finished smooth flat edge. Skiving reduces the thickness of the leather edges, making it more pliable and flexible. This allows the trimmer to ease the leather round corners and curvature with a smooth finish. Skiving is usually performed on the "flesh" fuzzy side of a piece of leather rather than the "finished" smoother side.*
incredible process! Wondering why they still use metal nails in Lineman boots, aren't lineman come in very close contact with electricity and electricity + metal is not a good combo for human body?
@@Totemparadox hmmm lineman does work closely with electricity, no? and the clinged nails used does come in very close with the wearers' feet. Also leather is not a true electrical dampener/barrier.

@@jamrogjan1509 You are correct. I looked at their website and it's just the standard way their lineman heels are made. Maybe it has a name, but it also might not.
@19:53 it appears the 'wood foot' you used to form the boot top was removed, HOW??, as you pritty surely nailed the whole top half to it!!, and don't show us when, or how it was removed, did you machine it out?, as you obviously could NOT just pull it.
It is in fact just pulled out. The nails don't penetrate the mold AKA the last. The last has a metal bottom that the nails hit and turn around creating a hook. Then the last is just pulled out.
I have always wondered what on Earth could be making that loud foghorn type of noise that can frequently be heard in the background of so many of these videos. Just after the 18:00 mark, it almost seems as if that is the machine making the noise, but only because the noise is the loudest that I have ever heard it. The foghorn sound is not in the background, but the sound does not match what the machine tool appears to be doing.
You ever heard of a Clinch nail? The point of the nail hits the metal shoe last when they are pounding them in and it bends over like a horseshoe. You hardly feel them if at all after the boot breaks in ! Yes I own a pair of builder pros they are the best ! They run $ 545 to $ 600 plus with customizations . Save up and get a pair instead of being salty !

What an incredible process. These people are true craftsman and they make difficult tasks look easy. Great video!
When a Sunday morning begins with a new boot-making video featuring these incredible artists from Nick's, you know it's gonna be a fantastic day!
Totally agree.
Hell yea...these videos relax me so much...I thought they would bore me but I freaking love boot making videos now... especially Nicks

Would be awesome to see a note with each piece telling us what it was as it was shown i.e. vamp, heel counter, lineman patch etc..
Hopfully this is my boot being made 😁
@Dixie Normus it is brutal i got till August yet
Question. Is there an inside and outside to the boots before they are put on the last? Or is the leather sewn symmetrical? Thanks

Leather shank with a double midsole.

If your close enough to arc on your boot nail. Then your already dead.
Good thought though. But wont matter. @newinspiration2108
what are the additional half midsoles for? protection from the nails due to possible electrocution?
Just added cushion and ridgidy for standing on steps for long periods.
extra protection for standing in spurs

Those screws, won't they hurt the person wearing these boots
If they did, would anyone buy these? Think for a moment. Do people buy cars that don't have seats?

As much as I love my boots, jackets and gloves I still think leather or suede look better on animals.
$300 bucks you get a bunch of nails and screw pointing at your feet
They're $550 at least and if you don't like screws and nails you can screw off.
You obviously don't know how shoes/boots (well the better ones) are made. Many use nails, not so many use actual screws.
