So many people in my generation have no idea what makes a good boot or who makes a good boot and whether the other brands are better or not plenty of us are going to go with Nick's because you give us this quality information

Yissir! We had "dot days" and "no dot days". We had a dot of white paint on the upper part of the back of the boots. We had to alternate everyday. There was always someone who had the wrong boots on 🤦♂️

When I worked as a millwright I would go through a pair of steel toed boots every 4-6 months. Honestly I should’ve been wearing nicks the whole time. I’ve had my builder pros for a month and it’s been a game changer. As a carpenter, working in dirt and on subfloor for the most part, I expect a long and prosperous life out of this pair. I've commented on other Nicks videos and I repeat it now. I'm now six months into my builder pro's and they now feel like slippers. They are so comfortable it's unreal. I'm now about to order my second pair. My advice is simple. Decide on what you require and like from the Nicks range. Discuss sizing with them and you'll never look back.
@@liamnoname6662 To hold one or both in your hand, yes they are but that weight is evened out when you wear them. If you go for the logger style heel there is a difference to the usual block heel when you wear them at first. But the arch support is incredible. During the first few weeks of wearing them it's in this part I found the hardest in the break in. You feel that arch. I'm now 7 to 8 months in and they are broken in and the feeling in the arch is not as pronounced. Having said that, one of the biggest reasons I decided to go for these boots is because for year's I have been suffering from tight hamstrings and lower back tightness. Wearing these boots six days a week, 10 to 11 hours a day has made a big difference. I suppose the best advert I can give for these boots is that I have just ordered another pair within the last week. Last week I ordered a pair of 8" Urban Loggers. I'll be wearing my builder pro's until the end of March. And hopefully, my new pair will be delivered. I went for the Urban Logger as they are a lighter boot for the summer months. Hope this helps. Extra Note: when ordering my new boots I emailed them requesting the same guy that fit me for my first pair was on hand to help with my second pair. You forgot about the welt separating from the upper because the dumb ass mill wright using it to lift steel beams. That really decreases the life of the footwear. When I was an orthopaedic shoemaker we had a free service to restore the footwear once a year not including soles. For the work boots we went as far as doing a Goodyear welt with reinforcing material to try and prevent it from pulling apart because folks use their footwear as ground hammers and kick things into place. After a year we got this pair of boots back to refurbish, the welt was ripped apart and the toe cap was mangled to the point you could see the steel toe. When we asked what happened we found out how he wanted to test how tough the boots were since it included the free service and started lifting stuff with them. We rebuilt them but told the jerk that was the last free service he'll see from the shop.
can you make a video showing what to do after absolutely soaking your boots in water, and how to recondition the heel stack to make sure it doesnt shrink and crumble leading to a earlier resole.
To be fair to "other boots", I've owned a pair of Red Wing Super Soles for 5 years, and I wear them about half the days of the year. The usage has been a mix of pedestrian and medium duty mechanic/farm work. I take good care of them, and the leather is still in at least fair condition. For example, I don't crawl on my knees with the toes sliding along concrete or gravel. That activity alone is the cause of the two most common failures in my community: a hole in the toe and the outsole coming loose at the front. The insole and cloth lining have deteriorated, but it doesn't make them unwearable. I added a pair of your company's recommended inserts. I have had them resoled once. They are ready for a replacement, however. If that is the lifetime I've gotten out of my boots, and if I chose to spend the money on a really high quality pair, I probably wouldn't have to buy another for 10 years.
I have a pair of mass produced winter dress shoes made by Baťa from the early thirties and they look almost new (like they were worn only for about a year), they’ve been obviously well taken care of throughout their life but much of it comes to the materials. The sole is made of heavy duty leather, there are several rows of wooden pegs and nails holding it together, it has a metal point and a metal heal and the glue or stitching hasn’t failed so far. The whole shoe is just solid and I can wear it without worry, which is something I can’t say about most modern mass produced shoes.
I have a pair of ariat's I have worn almost everyday for a year and always put them on a boot dryer. They still smell new. Lol. Normally by this point I'm throwing away a pair of boots because of the God awful smell.
I have two pairs of work boots to wear to decent places, two pairs for filthy places, and a pair for wet or unimproved (like out on the side of a mountain, no pavement) places. I can’t wear Nick’s to work, because as an IBEW journeyman inside wireman I’m unwilling to trust my life to a boot without an EH sole with all those nails and screws. A shame, because I’d LOVE to wear them. My boots, good Thorogood and Danner US-made boots, last me at least 3-4 years a pair now that I’ve started rotating, up from MAYBE a year and a half when I just had a pair of each. If I could wear Nick’s at work, I’m sure I’d get much more time, and since I won’t wear them to work I’ll likely have my Nick’s for the rest of my life once I buy a pair. Maybe a rebuild or two, but I doubt I’ll ever wear them completely out.
If iam not mistaking those boots you are comparing are red wings they are my favorite all time work boots i resole them twice before they give up they do resole them .
I just went through researching and then buying boots (one of the other Spokane shops) over the past year. These videos are very good! I wish these videos were around a year ago! For anyone interested in these types of Pacific Northwest boots - in my opinion, watch all these videos and save yourself from all the mixed information and conjecture of forums and random videos.

Literally the reason I ordered my first pair of Nick's this past weekend was I was tired of how quickly I was burning through boots. I was getting super cheap boots on Amazon and every 3-4 months they'd become unwearable. I don't do the physically toughest work, but I'm on hard floors all day and just want to keep my toes safe. I might not be able to get a second pair of Nicks right away but if they are as good as everyone says, I'll be sure to rotate them given how humid it is down here in Florida

I just bought a pair of Red Wing moc-toe boots and I am saving up for a pair of Nick's It's hard to explain why quality boots are worth the extra money.
I love these boots. A pity that i live in latinoamerica, so not only they are proportionally way more expensive than in the US, but i also would have to pay a 30% more in taxes and probably a 5-10% extra for shipping. Hope to some day being able to buy these in the USA. Great job guys, you take the shoemaking to the next level.
if you know someone in the US get them to buy them for you and ship them and have them label them as a gift, gifts cannot be charged duty when it crosses the border, its a trick i learned from ebay decades ago, everything i ever ordered from china always came marked as a gift and i never knew why, but i never had to pay duty on them and the very first time i ever bought something from the US(i live in canada)i paid about 50% the cost in duty, which ended up making it, it was a computer part, cost more than it would have cost in canada, and that was when i looked into what marking something as a gift meant when it comes to international shipping.

Great info! Looking forward to coming over to Spokane this summer to get fitted and order a couple pair of boots! Had an appointment last year but Cov shut everything down. With my current boots (I've tried almost every brand) it's a race to the end of the day to get out of them.
By the time you wear out a pair of Nick's Boots you will have made so much money while wearing them you won't care, and will probably have a few pairs to rotate. If you take care of them, have them resoled a few times and rebuilt once, you will be retired and ordering some heritage boots from Nick's before you know it.
I have a pair of chippewa's that are going on 20 years and still in service and comfortable. soon I may have them re-soled. take care of the parts that cant be replaced. a good pair of boots will last a long time based on how you use them. take good care of your boots and they will even stand up to concrete.(mine have) or paints and glue (mine have) so it really matters most how you maintain your equipment.
Owning a pair of your boots is definitely one of my goals. It’ll happen one day. I became a boot person somewhat recently… maybe about two years ago. I used to be an athletic shoe guy (ASICS, Brooks, New Balance) and those, if I bought one pair at a time, would last 6 or so months on average. I was probably spending $200-400/yr. Two years ago I bought my first two pairs of RedWing boots. 1907 Moc and 8111 IR. I absolutely love them and, while the break in was very painful, they are extremely comfortable now. I do rotate them to try to keep them fresh. For anyone investing in boots like this, whether they’re work or casual heritage, I recommend cedar shoe/boot trees. I have pretty sweaty feet and these keep my boots dry and smelling great. They also preserve the form of the shoe, keeping the toe from bending up over time and whatnot.
I have been burning through sneakers about 2 or 3 pairs a year from walking at work. I quickly realized the 10 cheapies at Walmart last me about the same time as new balance ones with the same comfort. So I started buying them. I read online that boots are the longest lasting shoes because the leather uppers last much longer then the man made materials and you can resole then. So I went out and got a couple pairs of 150 dollar boots on sale for about 89 then with some extra discounts paid about 50 or 60 usd. They were real leather. I got two pairs so I could swap them out every day to make them last even longer. The soles of the boots were rubber rather then foam so they should last a decent amount of time. Figured I could get about 2 years or so out of them with swapping everyday. 3 months later the heels are already sinking and causing heel pain. They have way to big of voids in the heel and only fiber board covering it. Pretty crazy that a company would even put out something with that bad of quality. I use to buy converse composite toe work shoes back in the day. I worked at least 40-70 hrs a week and those lasted me at least 2 years a pair at approximately 12000-20000 steps a day at work and only cost about 100 bucks. Best work shoe I've ever found but it's discontinued. I tried a different shoe every year to find another like it but couldn't. I've noticed over the years shoes do not seem to last as long as they use to. I might invest in a pair of your boots some day. Seen to be done of the best in the world that I can find
Basically the same thing has happened to me before. I have a couple of goodyear welted boots which have lasted much much more abuse than work boots I purchased for around $150-200. I had some wolverine work boots which only lasted me about six months until they were completely unusable and destroyed. The pain it caused on my hips and knees was the worst part though. You just can't get a pair of work boots for less than $300 which will last and remain comfortable for the life of the sole which should be a few years. Leather uppers aren't important, what's important is the construction style and midsole. Leather midsoles with rubber outsoles are the longest lasting, if you have a goodyear construction it will have a cork filling as well which is more comfortable at first, stitchdown is less comfortable at first but longer lasting and more comfortable in the long run.
Okay Nick’s I watched the boot fit video and despite telling your customer service team that you guys don’t have anything that works for me.. I pulled the trigger on some builder pros. I am excited. They should show up just about the time the work boots I have are ready for the trash can. Not super stoked about a 10 inch lace up, but I did that for 20 years in the Navy. I know that you guys aren’t sending me a GI boot. Lol
Just ordered my first pair of nicks builder pros !! I'm very excited and looking forward to the quality and craftsmanship. I was a redwing fan for the last 10 years but the last 2 years quality went down price went up . They wouldn't warranty a new pair that had the sole separating from the welt . I thought about it for a while and if I go through 2 pairs of $240 redwings a year why not spend the $545 and get a pair that can last 3 or 5 years maybe longer . Im willing to wear these builder pros out then have them rebuilt . But I'm relatively easy on my boots I oil them often and clean them daily to remove excess dirt and grime so I think I'll have a hard time wearing them out . I've only found out about Nick's in the past year because of Wranglerstar, and holy crap I'm looking forward to giving my hard earned money to a company that actually excels at what they create.
It’s funny how people have vastly different experiences with the same product. I wore mine around the house over a weekend, then was able to wear them for 11 hour days after the weekend. I took my old pair of redwings to swap just in case, but I never needed to.
@@Jrh-rp7np I don't doubt it. The dust gets every fuckin place. Especially clinker and fines dust. But I'm telling you. Nothing better in burning hot clinker or even dust when it's over ankle deep. And I've used mine in actual lava and never had an issue on my soles when other guys were running off on fire. Best money I ever spent as an operator in a cement factory. Break in is goddamn brutal though bro. You thought the price tag was bad, wait till you see your feet after a twelve or sixteen putting on 12 plus miles. Worth the money though man. No boots I'd rather wear.
will we ever see a dual density rubber outsole that is stronger in the areas that wears out faster like the heel but is less dense and soft in the rest of the outsole for comfort?
Unfortunatly i spend alot of time walking on aluminum checker plating or metal grids. Not alot i can do thats what i have to work on so yes i go through soles rather quickly. That said any other boot i'd be lucky to get 5 to 6 months. My Builder Pro's are on 10 months but they are starting to look like a resole isn't to far away. My recored was a cheep pair of boots i had to by in an emergancy as my current boots failed mid job so i had to run of and just buy the first pair of steel toe boots i could find and the soles lasted 3 weeks, Yes three weeks. Although i only paid £50 for them.
Yes, a boot dryer was a life changer for me. I worked AC in Bakersfield, CA. 100⁰+ days on end. My boots would smell horrible and still be wet from the long day before. The boot dryer makes it like a new boot every morning.
Good sticky tires wear out fast!!! I don't want a boot that last forever, I want one that works well for its intended use and is comfortable to wear all day... 😁👍
@@nicksboots really looking to get a pair, just trying to decide on which version to start with... there's one of your authorized dealers not too far frome so I'm gonna go see what they have in stock to try on... really trying to decide between the high arch logger style and the less burly HNW... most comfortable boots I ever had were some old red wing loggers about 20 years ago... but now I'm a general contractor so something a bit more refined seems more appropriate for that... but I can't stop thinking about the comfort of those high arches/heels and thinking maybe just doing that... probably will get both eventually but gotta start somewhere...
I have to wear safety toes, if you (or anyone) could guarantee comfort with steel toes I'd order a pair right now but it's so hit and miss with how well they fit my toes that I couldn't risk the cost and be stuck with $500 boots I can't wear.
I just got a pair of builder pros with steel toe. I'm still breaking them in but the toe box is roomy without any rub against the steel. My feet are pretty typical 11.5 D. Hope this helps.
I use a 7 boot rotation. One pair for each day of the week. One pair out for rebuild. And then, there is the forgotten scenario. You need to allow for one pair that is “offline” undergoing reconditioning. Saddle soap cleaning and reconditioning takes several days, not hours.
wow, 6 to 8 months are those the $7 boots that Rose Anvil talks about? The shortest time I have had a shoe or boot last is 1 year. I was impressed when my bates boots last 5 years or more though. So if yours lasts longer than bates that would be worth the money. :) Which I think they do as I think I heard someone has had nicks for over 10 years.
I've talked to a few people that have had the same set of boots from Nick's going on 20 years. Taking care of them, and rotating boots will make them out last most careers.
Im sure depends on what you do and man other factors. For police use bates, rockys, 5 11, etc, etc have all failed me miserably and very quickly. Even with a $120 yearly stipend on boots I find myself 6 months into that with hot garbage. The only pair in the same cost ballpark that have been good have been us made belleville 390s and eurropean surplus leather combat boots...but, I have a wierd fat flat foot and I'm constantly dissatisfied with the fit and function of "duty boots"...almost the entire market is cheap garbage. I'm looking forward to trying nicks.

Then again I grow up some what poor and back when I was a child paying more then 20 was out of the question and it is hard to get past that. I have been disappointed in a lot of boots though. Like a brand called Kingshow that lasted a short while and only last a few months. They were ones I tried after my above comment. They were only 30 though. But they were one of the worst boots I have ever had. I have many from a brand called Parton, only found on ebay, that I liked but recently found the soles to be fake vibram soles so probably will not buy any more.
Bought mine for a job I thought I would stay at 6 months ago. Left the job for an opportunity that tye Nicks are not allowed in. They are used now for yard work and hard weather walking. I expect these to last a lifetime.
I only own boots. Haven't owned a pair of sneakers in over thirty years. I really want a pair of handmade boots that will last. I put my boots on a dryer every day and swap boots everyday. I can't afford two pair right now but by the time I receive my first pair I can afford to buy a second pair. Lol.
I love Nicks, Wesco, Whites, etc. But at 3:25, I think he needs to be a little more honest. "Our boots are a little more uncomfortable to begin with." Just be honest. "Our boots feel like strapping a brick to your foot, wrapped around your leg with a steel stove pipe. But, in 6 months, they'll be the best boots you'll ever own."
I was wondering if ya'll have ever used dynemma or spectra for stitching in your boots. I think it would easily outlast the sole.I think it's highly rot resistant. Just wandering.

Hey, thinking about buying a pair of Nicks. I wear logger boots, and am a freight Conductor for a class1 RR. I spend a lot of time on loose, uneven rock surfaces, these would be three season boots for me. I was wondering what unlined model you would suggest, and if you have any advice on sizing.
About the soles... I currently have a mass produced boot that uses Vibram soles. (Am considering getting Nick's because I am very unhappy with the quality slippage in the last two years of my brand.) Not counting the red-x or white-x vibram soles are there different levels of quality in Vibram brand soles? I thought Vibrams were all the same.

Honestly, if you pay $500+ on a pair of handmade boots and you can’t figure out when you need a heel cap, a resole, or a rebuild then you are just plain dumb and shouldn’t buy these boots. I can understand not having time to send your boots in, but you should not wear them to destruction. I’d have a pair of cheaper back up boots for those just in case moments anyway.
It appears to me, and is hindering my purchasing of a pair, is that people with bigger feet seem to get a far better deal. I could be wrong but my foot is half of the size of some of the boots I've seen made. And while taking one for the team is great and all for 700 plus dollars that team definitely needs to do some stepping up.
I walk on the balls of my feet , I usually destroy the internal structure of the sole ( broken shank , upper separating from the sole , leather stretching's to the point the laces can no longer make the boot tight , eyelets no longer attached to the leather , leather allows water to travel quickly through the body of the leather with no visible cracks or holes , fractured safety toe ) also some of them fail due to being cut or shot . I have found Kevlar and carbon carbon composite is the key to durability but HDPE and ceramic also look promising .
Informative video. Ditch the cheezy music, though. It cheapens the quality of your video. It's too similar to elevator music and the annoying soundtrack played while you are waiting on the phone for an agent. Bad associations.
Some of these things I don't agree with. Many mass produced boots can be resoled, and I don't think their synthetic materials are designed to become uncomfortable. They probably can't be resoled very many times, and the materials may become uncomfortable over time but they're not designed to do so. They're designed to be comfortable now and last as long as someone spending that much expects them to last.
Very few things you can buy today have the attention to detail and level of craftsmanship you'll find in Nick's boots. They are A+.

What I learned in basic: spraying floor polish on linoleum and then skating around in wool socks is a pretty darn good way of polishing the floor.

My cobbler told me that is the best thing in the world you can do for boots, rotate them by the day.

They are ready for a replacement, however. If that is the lifetime I've gotten out of my boots, and if I chose to spend the money on a really high quality pair, I probably wouldn't have to buy another for 10 years.
Gotta say, Nicks boots are the best. I've worn most boot brands, but Nics is the best!
I have a pair of mass produced winter dress shoes made by Baťa from the early thirties and they look almost new (like they were worn only for about a year), they’ve been obviously well taken care of throughout their life but much of it comes to the materials. The sole is made of heavy duty leather, there are several rows of wooden pegs and nails holding it together, it has a metal point and a metal heal and the glue or stitching hasn’t failed so far. The whole shoe is just solid and I can wear it without worry, which is something I can’t say about most modern mass produced shoes.
Rotation of boots will make boots last longer then twice as long it's amazing letting them dry from feet funk
Your on the money. When I worked the oil field boots got wet often. 3 boots in rotation with a red wings boot dryer is heaven for your feet.

I have a pair of ariat's I have worn almost everyday for a year and always put them on a boot dryer. They still smell new. Lol. Normally by this point I'm throwing away a pair of boots because of the God awful smell.
I have two pairs of work boots to wear to decent places, two pairs for filthy places, and a pair for wet or unimproved (like out on the side of a mountain, no pavement) places. I can’t wear Nick’s to work, because as an IBEW journeyman inside wireman I’m unwilling to trust my life to a boot without an EH sole with all those nails and screws. A shame, because I’d LOVE to wear them. My boots, good Thorogood and Danner US-made boots, last me at least 3-4 years a pair now that I’ve started rotating, up from MAYBE a year and a half when I just had a pair of each. If I could wear Nick’s at work, I’m sure I’d get much more time, and since I won’t wear them to work I’ll likely have my Nick’s for the rest of my life once I buy a pair. Maybe a rebuild or two, but I doubt I’ll ever wear them completely out.
If iam not mistaking those boots you are comparing are red wings they are my favorite all time work boots i resole them twice before they give up they do resole them .
6 months till the sweet spot is the reason I haven’t gone down this path .

Literally the reason I ordered my first pair of Nick's this past weekend was I was tired of how quickly I was burning through boots. I was getting super cheap boots on Amazon and every 3-4 months they'd become unwearable. I don't do the physically toughest work, but I'm on hard floors all day and just want to keep my toes safe. I might not be able to get a second pair of Nicks right away but if they are as good as everyone says, I'll be sure to rotate them given how humid it is down here in Florida

if you know someone in the US get them to buy them for you and ship them and have them label them as a gift, gifts cannot be charged duty when it crosses the border, its a trick i learned from ebay decades ago, everything i ever ordered from china always came marked as a gift and i never knew why, but i never had to pay duty on them and the very first time i ever bought something from the US(i live in canada)i paid about 50% the cost in duty, which ended up making it, it was a computer part, cost more than it would have cost in canada, and that was when i looked into what marking something as a gift meant when it comes to international shipping.

By the time you wear out a pair of Nick's Boots you will have made so much money while wearing them you won't care, and will probably have a few pairs to rotate. If you take care of them, have them resoled a few times and rebuilt once, you will be retired and ordering some heritage boots from Nick's before you know it.

So how long should boots last?
I have a pair of chippewa's that are going on 20 years and still in service and comfortable. soon I may have them re-soled. take care of the parts that cant be replaced. a good pair of boots will last a long time based on how you use them. take good care of your boots and they will even stand up to concrete.(mine have) or paints and glue (mine have) so it really matters most how you maintain your equipment.
Just don't buy new chip's they're junk
Owning a pair of your boots is definitely one of my goals. It’ll happen one day. I became a boot person somewhat recently… maybe about two years ago. I used to be an athletic shoe guy (ASICS, Brooks, New Balance) and those, if I bought one pair at a time, would last 6 or so months on average. I was probably spending $200-400/yr.
Two years ago I bought my first two pairs of RedWing boots. 1907 Moc and 8111 IR. I absolutely love them and, while the break in was very painful, they are extremely comfortable now. I do rotate them to try to keep them fresh.
For anyone investing in boots like this, whether they’re work or casual heritage, I recommend cedar shoe/boot trees. I have pretty sweaty feet and these keep my boots dry and smelling great. They also preserve the form of the shoe, keeping the toe from bending up over time and whatnot.

I have been burning through sneakers about 2 or 3 pairs a year from walking at work. I quickly realized the 10 cheapies at Walmart last me about the same time as new balance ones with the same comfort. So I started buying them. I read online that boots are the longest lasting shoes because the leather uppers last much longer then the man made materials and you can resole then. So I went out and got a couple pairs of 150 dollar boots on sale for about 89 then with some extra discounts paid about 50 or 60 usd. They were real leather. I got two pairs so I could swap them out every day to make them last even longer. The soles of the boots were rubber rather then foam so they should last a decent amount of time. Figured I could get about 2 years or so out of them with swapping everyday. 3 months later the heels are already sinking and causing heel pain. They have way to big of voids in the heel and only fiber board covering it. Pretty crazy that a company would even put out something with that bad of quality. I use to buy converse composite toe work shoes back in the day. I worked at least 40-70 hrs a week and those lasted me at least 2 years a pair at approximately 12000-20000 steps a day at work and only cost about 100 bucks. Best work shoe I've ever found but it's discontinued. I tried a different shoe every year to find another like it but couldn't. I've noticed over the years shoes do not seem to last as long as they use to. I might invest in a pair of your boots some day. Seen to be done of the best in the world that I can find
Basically the same thing has happened to me before. I have a couple of goodyear welted boots which have lasted much much more abuse than work boots I purchased for around $150-200. I had some wolverine work boots which only lasted me about six months until they were completely unusable and destroyed. The pain it caused on my hips and knees was the worst part though. You just can't get a pair of work boots for less than $300 which will last and remain comfortable for the life of the sole which should be a few years. Leather uppers aren't important, what's important is the construction style and midsole. Leather midsoles with rubber outsoles are the longest lasting, if you have a goodyear construction it will have a cork filling as well which is more comfortable at first, stitchdown is less comfortable at first but longer lasting and more comfortable in the long run.

Even my Honey Vibram had hold a lot more than any other mass production boot. I won't even go about the THICKEST leather in boots. Nicks made tanks.
Okay Nick’s I watched the boot fit video and despite telling your customer service team that you guys don’t have anything that works for me.. I pulled the trigger on some builder pros. I am excited. They should show up just about the time the work boots I have are ready for the trash can. Not super stoked about a 10 inch lace up, but I did that for 20 years in the Navy. How many heel caps do you usually go through before replacing the entire outsole? For example, 3 heel caps for every sole?
Really case by case, but about 1-2 caps per sole unless someone drags their heels.
Just ordered my first pair of nicks builder pros !! I'm very excited and looking forward to the quality and craftsmanship. I was a redwing fan for the last 10 years but the last 2 years quality went down price went up . They wouldn't warranty a new pair that had the sole separating from the welt . I thought about it for a while and if I go through 2 pairs of $240 redwings a year why not spend the $545 and get a pair that can last 3 or 5 years maybe longer . Im willing to wear these builder pros out then have them rebuilt . But I'm relatively easy on my boots I oil them often and clean them daily to remove excess dirt and grime so I think I'll have a hard time wearing them out . Worst break in iv ever had. But so worth it.
It’s funny how people have vastly different experiences with the same product. I wore mine around the house over a weekend, then was able to wear them for 11 hour days after the weekend. I took my old pair of redwings to swap just in case, but I never needed to.
They are rough but so worth it. I wore them 12 hours a day as a utility operator at a cement plant and it wasn’t easy but I love them tons.
It can be tough but soo worth it!

And I've used mine in actual lava and never had an issue on my soles when other guys were running off on fire. Best money I ever spent as an operator in a cement factory. Break in is goddamn brutal though bro. You thought the price tag was bad, wait till you see your feet after a twelve or sixteen putting on 12 plus miles. Worth the money though man. No boots I'd rather wear.

Save up, I also split the payment for mine. Well worth it. After having mine for a year, I'll never buy any other boots.
Unfortunatly i spend alot of time walking on aluminum checker plating or metal grids. Not alot i can do thats what i have to work on so yes i go through soles rather quickly. That said any other boot i'd be lucky to get 5 to 6 months. My Builder Pro's are on 10 months but they are starting to look like a resole isn't to far away. My recored was a cheep pair of boots i had to by in an emergancy as my current boots failed mid job so i had to run of and just buy the first pair of steel toe boots i could find and the soles lasted 3 weeks, Yes three weeks. Although i only paid £50 for them.
I think most local cobblers will be able to replace anything on your boots.
So on a tire expectancy decent tires get 30,000 miles so Nicks should get at least the same! 🤔😉🤓

Yes, a boot dryer was a life changer for me. I worked AC in Bakersfield, CA. 100⁰+ days on end. My boots would smell horrible and still be wet from the long day before. The boot dryer makes it like a new boot every morning.

@@nicksboots really looking to get a pair, just trying to decide on which version to start with... there's one of your authorized dealers not too far frome so I'm gonna go see what they have in stock to try on... really trying to decide between the high arch logger style and the less burly HNW... most comfortable boots I ever had were some old red wing loggers about 20 years ago... but now I'm a general contractor so something a bit more refined seems more appropriate for that... but I can't stop thinking about the comfort of those high arches/heels and thinking maybe just doing that... probably will get both eventually but gotta start somewhere...
The Nick's boot is a little hard to see in this lighting.
I have to wear safety toes, if you (or anyone) could guarantee comfort with steel toes I'd order a pair right now but it's so hit and miss with how well they fit my toes that I couldn't risk the cost and be stuck with $500 boots I can't wear.
Red wing has a 30 day guarantee on their work line which have steel toe offering.
I just got a pair of builder pros with steel toe. I'm still breaking them in but the toe box is roomy without any rub against the steel. My feet are pretty typical 11.5 D. Hope this helps.

I use a 7 boot rotation. One pair for each day of the week. One pair out for rebuild. And then, there is the forgotten scenario.
You need to allow for one pair that is “offline” undergoing reconditioning. Saddle soap cleaning and reconditioning takes several days, not hours.
I go with a 360 pair rotation. I should be done breaking all of them in about 10 years from now.

wow, 6 to 8 months are those the $7 boots that Rose Anvil talks about? The shortest time I have had a shoe or boot last is 1 year. I was impressed when my bates boots last 5 years or more though. So if yours lasts longer than bates that would be worth the money. :) Which I think they do as I think I heard someone has had nicks for over 10 years.
I've talked to a few people that have had the same set of boots from Nick's going on 20 years. Taking care of them, and rotating boots will make them out last most careers.
Im sure depends on what you do and man other factors. For police use bates, rockys, 5 11, etc, etc have all failed me miserably and very quickly. Even with a $120 yearly stipend on boots I find myself 6 months into that with hot garbage. The only pair in the same cost ballpark that have been good have been us made belleville 390s and eurropean surplus leather combat boots...but, I have a wierd fat flat foot and I'm constantly dissatisfied with the fit and function of "duty boots"...almost the entire market is cheap garbage. I'm looking forward to trying nicks.

But they were one of the worst boots I have ever had. I have many from a brand called Parton, only found on ebay, that I liked but recently found the soles to be fake vibram soles so probably will not buy any more.

Hey, thinking about buying a pair of Nicks. I wear logger boots, and am a freight Conductor for a class1 RR. I spend a lot of time on loose, uneven rock surfaces, these would be three season boots for me. I was wondering what unlined model you would suggest, and if you have any advice on sizing.

Both are great, we recommend oil for dry environments and fire. Grease is great most of the time otherwise!

About the soles... I currently have a mass produced boot that uses Vibram soles. (Am considering getting Nick's because I am very unhappy with the quality slippage in the last two years of my brand.) Not counting the red-x or white-x vibram soles are there different levels of quality in Vibram brand soles? I thought Vibrams were all the same.

Honestly, if you pay $500+ on a pair of handmade boots and you can’t figure out when you need a heel cap, a resole, or a rebuild then you are just plain dumb and shouldn’t buy these boots. I can understand not having time to send your boots in, but you should not wear them to destruction. I’d have a pair of cheaper back up boots for those just in case moments anyway.
It appears to me, and is hindering my purchasing of a pair, is that people with bigger feet seem to get a far better deal.
I could be wrong but my foot is half of the size of some of the boots I've seen made.
And while taking one for the team is great and all for 700 plus dollars that team definitely needs to do some stepping up.

I walk on the balls of my feet , I usually destroy the internal structure of the sole ( broken shank , upper separating from the sole , leather stretching's to the point the laces can no longer make the boot tight , eyelets no longer attached to the leather , leather allows water to travel quickly through the body of the leather with no visible cracks or holes , fractured safety toe ) also some of them fail due to being cut or shot . I have found Kevlar and carbon carbon composite is the key to durability but HDPE and ceramic also look promising .

Many mass produced boots can be resoled, and I don't think their synthetic materials are designed to become uncomfortable.
They probably can't be resoled very many times, and the materials may become uncomfortable over time but they're not designed to do so.
They're designed to be comfortable now and last as long as someone spending that much expects them to last.
