I think this video was one of the most challenging ones I've done this year. Not editing wise, of course (because my editing is simple and not hard to follow through), but I feel so rusty with crossovers and manips that I honestly thought I wasn't gonna be able to finish it xD Even though I made 0 masking this was still hard to accomplish, and I feel somewhat proud that I got it done after all.
This is my take on the mysterious tale of Lyanna Stark, the woman that unintentionally ignited a rebellion. If I had any doubts before that she actually ran away with Rhaegar rather than got kidnapped by him, editing this video totally changed my mind. I am now 100% convinced that they ran away together because they fell in love, there's just too much indication for that. The fact that Lyanna was a wild spirit and was unhappy with her betrothal to Robert, the fact that Rhaegar was well loved by his people, and that everyone seemed to think highly of him (including Ser Barristan who was a very loyal and honorable man). Littlefinger's weird little smile when Sansa said Rheagar had 'kindapped and raped' her aunt, Lyanna holding roses in her deathbed, symbolism to the ones Rhaegar gave her at the tourney and the fact the prince whispered 'a woman's name' just befor he died...I mean....duhh??
And weirdly enough, the biggest evidence for me (what makes me truly think they loved each other) is how much Robert despises Rhaegar, even after all these years.
Now this is where my headcanon differs a bit from the most accepted ones xD
I don't think Robert was clueless about Rhaegar and Lyanna's relationship, like most people believe. I do think he suspected it, or even knew, that whatever feelings Rhaegar made known on the day he crowned her queen of love and beauty, Lyanna reciprocated, and when she was 'kidnapped' he KNEW that she had gone willingly. That's why he hated Rhaegar SO much. Now, of course thinking your beloved was kindapped and raped would make you angry, disgusted, blind with ire...but idk, whenever Robert was talking about Lyanna it felt like, more than angry he was almost...hurt?
In my head, Robert knew Rhaegar and her were taken with each other and he hated Rhaegar all the more because he was able to make Lyanna love him when he couldn't. And he let everyone believe the prince had truly done those awful things to the Lady Stark so Rhaegar would be a monster in people's eyes as much as he was in his.
But there's no indication Rhaegar was a monster, there's plenty of evidence, however, that he was noble, and kind, and that he 'loved his lady Lyanna', not really the crazy rapist profile xD And I don't believe even Robert was thick enough to buy that.
Of course I might have gotten this all wrong but, well, we don't really know a lot about their story do we? I'm a helpless romantic at heart and my mind wanders to the most unbeliveable, heart-breaking, Romeo and Juliet-ish theories by default LMFAO.

To be fair she was from Dorne so she might have been okay if Rhaegar kept Lyanna as his paramour. That being said she equally might not have been okay with that and also Robert and all the Starks would be furious.

She was actually okay with it tho. Read the books, she didn't love Rhaegar.
But she, as well as Rhaegar didn't know that the fat, idiotic cuck Baratheon would allow the killing of Elia and her children. Rhaegar also put Jaime to guard her, but he was too busy killing the Mad King..
@@JustAChinesePleb But in the book Rhaegar was not that hero loving husband. He was obsessed by fulfilling a prophecy of 3 dragon head. That was the reason that he approch Lyanna. Lets not confuse books and TV Show.. Even if she had some agreement with Rhaeger in Tv show, he did broke that, once he annul their wedding in favoring Lyanna. Not only he puts Ellia in a difficult situation, also the kids were humiliated and in danger.
Instead of putting Jaime to guard her, his first move should had been remove Ellia and his kids, and send them into Dorne. Instead, he was busy Shagging Lyanna.
First off, Rhaegar did not leave Elia and her children behind in the Capital, they were at Dragonstone, untill the Mad King summoned them. So even if Rhaegar was with them they would have to return to the court because the King ordered them to. Secondly, Elia’s reaction to Rhaegar giving the crown of roses to Lyanna is purposely left out, we don’t know if she was angry or alright with it, but text evidence suggests that she knew about the prophecy (from Dany’s visions in HotU) so there is a high chance that she gave her leave to Rhaegar to have another child. Because the prophecy means saving the whole world, all humans. Another thing we know from Dany’s vision is that Rhaegar saw his son from Elia, Aegon as his heir and the promised prince. So there is no way he left them without ensuring their safety first. Maegor’s Holdfast has fallen twice in like 300 years, so what was he supposed to think, there was no place safer than the Red Keep. When he rode for Trident he left a Kingsguard, and the whole City Watch to protect them. An it’s likely that Elia had a Dornish host with her, though this is neither confirmed nor denied. And lastly after killing the Mad King, Jaime sat on the throne and waited, mind you Gregor and Amory Lorch were still outside of the Red Keep when he killed him. So he had enough time to go to Elia and the kids, save them since the Lannister men wouldn’t hurt Tywin Lannister’s own son. Elia was not the poor abandoned wife y’all want her to be, and Rhaegar is not responsible for her and their children’s death. Only Tywin, Gregor, Amory and arguably Jaime.
I honestly think that Rhaegar took Lyanna as his second wife (like Aegon the conqueror) and that Elia had a thing for Lyanna as well. Like if she didn’t, she definitely would’ve made her displeasure known (she was Oberyn’s sister. A Dornish woman).

The bells rang as the lannisters stormed into kingslanding killing everyone during roberts rebellion, the bells were heard with the people screaming and dieing, imagine this as a child, a girl traumatised because this was daenerys. Hearing the bells again brought her back to that time. The first time she feared for her life, knowing that people wanted her dead.
This is the best VM I have ever seen on Rhaegar Lyanna. Not cause of the brilliant editing but cause of the possible proper rendition of the events of their story. It was not only Rhaegar Lyanna's story but Robert and Elia and Ned are as much important parts of it. Also I love how you took up on the side of Robert on the romantic grounds. He was not merely the third angle. And suffered great loss at the end of war. What's winning the war if you end up loosing what you fight for. " I can't remember what she lookee like " That's such a sad qoute . Also thanks tons for including Elia. What happened to her and her children was completely heartbreaking. Ned. Him loosing his sister and giving away his honor too. Eveyone suffered loss in this story. And this was a perfect cast. Absolutely spot on . Henry Cavill really makes the perfect Robert. Lyanna's was brilliant as well. Overall. This a masterpiece. Which I have watched uncountable times and can rewatch again and never get bored. Such is this beauty. Great work.

What's even more heartbreaking is that he was in love with his idea of Lyanna, not with who she really was. Ned said Robert never really knew her, and saw her beauty but not the iron underneath.
AnitaClue In Westeros people marry for alliance, for compromise at least he loved her for something. Even If Robert only loved her beauty then Lyanna was equally a shallow woman who fell in love with the most beautiful man, totally forgetting that he is already married and has kids.

Worst of all, he (and everyone else for that matter) was completely convinced that she loved him and that she was raped and kidnapped by the mad king's son. That's why Robert killed him wo thoroughly and lives through that scene every night in his dreams. In the end he failed in his mind and was never able to recover from that, leading to him giving in to alcoholism and hedonism to fill the void

What everyone thought was Ned's greatest moment of weakness was actually one of the most honorable things he ever did. He was even more honorable then everyone thought he was, and that's saying something!

@@Brandonhayhew not really true. If Robert hadn't gotten killed from that boar things would have turned out very differently. There is no way Ned could have anticipated that. Robert had been out hunting countless times and killed countless boars without getting killed. Even if there were bandits he had freaking Barriston Selmy and the Hound. The chances anything terrible happened to Robert were super slim. Robert dying from the boar was just extremely bad luck, not stupidity that came from Ned's honor.

@@Brandonhayhew cersei purposely got robert drunk with some super strong wine while he went hunting. that’s how that boar was able to injure him. i believe cersei conspired with one of her lannister cousins, who was a squire or something in robert’s hunting party, to get the wine to the king. it’s been a while since i read the books though so i may be misremembering some details, but essentially cersei planned to have robert meet with *some* kind of accident that would kill him.

I love Rhaegar but at the same time I'm mad at him. Elia and his children died partly because of his actions.

Arden Depp Ikr? I feel like Rhaegar could have been such a great man if so many things hadn't happened. If Aerys hadn't been mad, if he hadn't been forced into his marriage in the first place, if he had never met Lyanna and kick started the war. He sounds a lot like Dany. But unfortunately he did what a lot of men do and chose a woman. I also blame Lyanna a lot as well. She knew he was married and had children. She knew she was betrothed to Robert and she knew that he was hot headed. As much as I love Rhaegar, it was his and Lyannas fault, I wish Rhaegar had lived and sought out Dany and Viserys. Dany needed her family.
Daenerys Targaryen in my interpretation of all of this, rhaegar didnt exactly ran off and had a child with lyanna just for love, although it was a factor, but rhaegar was too noble and righteous to doom the kindoms with such conflict just for his own sake. it is to my understanding that rhaegar hoped to fulfill the prophecy of the dragon's three heads or the prince that was promised, and in that attempt he had a child with lyanna with lyanna being ice and him being fire, they literally had their song of ice and fire which was in a way jon snow who to careful speculation is going to play a pivotal role in saving westeros from white walkers
so hold your judgements at the moment, we dont know that we might end up thanking rhaegar for indirectly saving the whole of westeros

This is honestly the best Rhaegar/Lyanna/Robert's Rebellion fanvid I have ever seen, and I've seen a lot! All the character playbys are the perfect choices and I'd kill for a full length feature film with Bradley James and Adelaide Kane as Rhaegar and Lyanna. They would be beyond perfect. My absolute favorite prequel storyline

In the books, he left three kingsguard to protect Lyanna brought two to protect him, and only Jaime to protect Elia.

Elia was in the red fortress with a lot of guards, good or not and Lyanna was alone in a tower with only three, which however good they were, was not enough. Elia was also with her uncle.

So many R+L fans makes me gag, how they fantasized the overglorified story of R+L and not looking pass what they did for their -love- prophecy.

If everyone knew that while the entire realm was at war, Lya was enjoying her time with her blonde prince, no one would have gone to war, and Brandon Stark and his father would have still been alive. Elia Martell too, she would have lived the life she deserves. And Lyanna and Raeghar would have been the enemies of Westeros, everyone would hate them, and think Lya is and idiot and selfish 14 year old, while Raeghar is a selfish and idiot cheater as well (the thing is that they are lmao). Hi! I'm 31, about to marry next summer, 10 years of relationship with my fiance and mother of a little girl of three. And I'm here enjoying this vid, loving Rhaegar/Lyanna and ALSO well aware of how unfair it was for Rhaegar's first wife. I do sympathize with her, but I still like Rhaegar/Lyanna which does not mean that I don't understand how problematic and selfish their decision to elope was (and not only because of Elia Martell and her children but because of the war it started and the consecuences for a lot of people: those who died in the war, catelyn, jon, robert, cersei, etc).

This is amazing and I do agree because Rhaegar from how he was described by everyone, was noble, I think they fell in love and ran away together, I don't think he raped her. I also feel so bad for Elia Martell and her children they didn't deserve any of that, and god, I mean I don't think Rhaegar didn't care for Elia not with two children but I think he just wasn't in love with her. I believe this was a bad situation in which at the time being in love was more of a problem as opposed to something beautiful. Love got both Rhaegar and Lyanna dead, Elia dead, her children dead, Robert miserable and then dead by the manipulations of a wife who he threw away the chance of love with because he was still in love with Lyanna. I love and hate Game of Thrones.

First off: you were right. :) But secondly, can I just say how fitting this whole tragic love story is to the Game of Thrones universe? A key element of this whole world is showing the gritty consequences of classic fantasy tropes; e.g. Ned's relentless commitment to his honor got him killed. But one of Game of Thrones' most pointed critiques is of the whole concept of classic fantasy romance. The Red Wedding happens because Robb follows his heart instead of staying with the less appealing, but more practical, arranged marriage he had agreed to. Sansa was obsessed with marrying Joffrey until she found out how awful he was. Even Cersei was happy about marrying Robert, renowned as this brave warrior who had saved the Realm, until he staggers into bed with her drunk and calls her Lyanna. So it makes sense that Robert's Rebellion, the central event setting up the world as we're introduced it, was caused by this naïve act of love. Lyanna and Rhaegar were rapturously in love, which is beautiful, but that love cost much, including, as Littlefinger (who developed into a conniving monster because of his own heartbreak) says, "tens of thousands" of lives.
That's why I love this storyline. It perfectly represents the Game of Thrones universe as a whole.

An even sadder story is elia martell being humiliated by her husband when he publicly declared lyanna stark as the queen of love and beauty, left her and her children and bastardised them to be with lyanna, and let them die when he ordered them to go to kings landing during the siege, with only one guard to protect them, held hostage by the mad king. Never got why oberyns revenge for the rape and death of his sister was directed to the lannisters and not the targaryens
I can't tell you how many times I've watched this video, I come back to it over and over and over because it really is just that good.
I know you said you worked really hard on it and it was all worth it, this is the best R+L video I have ever seen and possible the best fan video I've ever seen, it flows perfectly, the casting is spot on and the music and choice of voiceovers literally make it appear as a cohesive story or real tv show.

I believe that Lyanna was the mystery knight of the Laughing tree at the tournament, and when Rhaegar went looking for the knight (under the orders of his father) he discovered Lady Lyanna to be the knight. I also believe that he was there to make forced ally agents him in order to take down his fathers tyrannical ruling. Also, during the tournament it's said that Rhaegar played a song, a song that made Lyanna cry. I think that when she did cry, Rhaegar was surprised and interested in her, and when Robert teased her about crying and she blew up, I think it only made Rhaegar more interested. In her. I also think that maybe he also witnessed something between Robert and Lyanna, something not talked about, and he felt pity and outrage for the wild stark. Something like Lyanna telling Robert she didn't want marriage, and them getting into a fight in which Lyanna says something Robert doesn't like, and he ended up hitting her or something like that. I think that when he witnessed that, he became very saddened and heartbroken for her, making him feel a mass amount of pity, and when he chased after the knight and upon discovering it was her, maybe he asked why, and maybe she gave him an answer that surprised and baffled him, and maybe they made a deal to maybe get her away from her engagement to Robert. And in order to get her away from the engagement without embarrassing and damaging her family, it had to look like she was kidnapped by Rhaegar. But I believe she went with Rhaegar because se wanted to, and because she didn't want to be tied to Robert anymore, who was sort of boarding the line on obsession.

Doesn't Rhaegar and Lyanna's hyped love story mirror that of Charles and Camilla? I know the assumption is very weak and highly disputable. But the one who suffered the most was the person who was sidelined because of these two infamous lovers. Liana Martell as well as Princess Diana suffered throughout their marriage, bore heirs to the Royal throne, but still died for no fault of their own. Elia Martell's life was like a torn page whose life had been brutally ripped because of the devastating desires of others.
The cast of merlin had some brilliant actors, more of them should be acknowledged

In fact, polygamy is illegal under the Old Gods, the Faith and Jaehaerys I's laws.

Oddly enough, Elia and the children were safe with Rhaegar's crazy father. Aerys never harmed a hair on their heads. It was Tywin Lannister who ordered the deaths of those children. Rhaegar had no reason to believe his family would be in danger, or that a war would start. Still...not a nice thing to do, and yes I feel bad for Elia too.
Exactly and he actually tried to get them to go to Dragonstone but the Mad King wouldn't let them leave which led to Tywin ordering their deaths. Rhaegar was trying to do the right thing in the end it just didn't work out. He wanted both his families safe. And if things turned out differently and they lived along with Lyanna, Rhaegar would have tried to make peace with Robert or at the very least convince Ned not to let Robert kill him with Lyanna's help.
Elia cheated with Arthur Dayne. Neither of her children were Rhaegar's. Varys knew. Varys tells Tyrion Elia cried a certain name before she died. The name is Arthur

We don’t know what exactly happened at Harrenhaal, and we will never know exactly until Roberts Rebellion is explored in full depth. I have a theory that the Azor Ahai prophecy drove Rhaegar made into manipulating Lyanna into a forced marriage and abandoning his wife and kids.

It's a story designed to be bittersweet, Martin said that himself. The needs of the many outweigh the needs of the few.
Rheagars obsession with prophecy made him believe his son would save the realm, and his son has already saved more people in the north than the people that died.
So yes I am "seriously defending" him. Tradegy happened to thousands to save millions.

People let's remember that the rebellion wasn't built on a lie. Here's a list of facts.
Lyanna was 14 or 15 when she met Rhaegar and died. She was an adolescent, naive and like any other girl was smitten by the dragon prince. Rhaegar himself was a grown man in his twenties already married with children.
It wasn't difficult to coax Lyanna a young girl in running off with him.
Rhaegar was obsessed with prophesy despite being married to Elia Martell a faithful wife and having two children Aegon and Rhaela he could not be responsible and commit his duty. I have no doubt Lyanna was in love with Rhaegar in the beginning but after her father and brothers murder she was in traumatic grief and the blind love died.
Rickard and Brandon were murdered by Aerys (Rhaegar's father) because of Lyanna and Rhaegar's irresponsibility. There's no lie in the fact the Stark's were murdered. If Aerys wasn't so fucking insane a peaceful meeting could of been conducted with the Stark's, Robert Baratheon and Rhaegar but instead Aerys murdered Rickard and Brandon.
The Stark's were murdered by Aerys and a long awaited rebellion erupted. Remember Aerys had been mad for a number of years, burning various nobles alive and his madness was widespread news. The Stark's murders set off a long awaited rebellion.
It want Roberts rebellion however. Jon Arryn was told by Aerys to execute his wards Eddard Stark and Robert Baratheon but Jon refused calling his banners in revolt. It was Jon Arryn's rebellion.
Eddard sailed back to the North to organise his military, Robert sailed to the Stormlands to call his banners and Jon Arryn prepared his army. Because of the alliances House Tully chose to live by their words 'Family. Duty. Honor' and raised their banners to fight against the Crown alongside wolves, falcons and stags against dragons.
Catelyn was originally betrothed to Brandon. Robert was betrothed to Lyanna. Eddard want betrothed to anyone. In the eruption of the rebellion Lysa was betrothed to Jon Arryn.
The murder of Rickard Stark and Brandon Stark was what caused the rebellion thanks to the insane Aerys. Plus Elbert Arryn the heir of the Vale was murdered by the king.
Ultimately Lyanna and Rhaegar were irresponsible cunts but it was not Roberts rebellion and the Stark murders was what erupted the long awaited rebellion.
Rhaegar's daughter is Rhaenys not Rhaella 😊
Kieren Hayward Kieren Hayward that’s true, I don’t know why the show runners and G. R. R thinks all readers are stupid and won’t pick up on what actually caused the rebellion. I don’t get it why the show is trying to imply that Robert Rebellion was built on a lie as if Robert started this was exclusively for Lyanna and he knew the truth that she and Rhaegar loved each other!
Rhaegar's being obsessed with the prophecy is true, but that doesn't make him unable to commit to his duty--rather it makes him unable not to commit to a larger duty. If he did what he had to to save the world, you can't really blame him for it...okay you can, but it's not really fair.
Lyanna was 16 by the time she died, possibly close to being 17, and teenagers in a medieval society are not the same as teenagers in modern society--she was considered marriageable before she even met Rhaegar. But if you want to stick to the version where she was an innocent child seduced by an older man, then you can't blame her and call her names. It's one or the other.
Brandon was an idiot. He should have left it to his father to object to Lyanna's abduction, as only her father had a legal right to do so. He also should have known better than to go screaming for the crown prince to "come out and die" in the castle of a king who was known to be INSANE!
Aerys' murders of Brandon and Rickard was due only to Aerys being a nutcase, and Brandon's stupidity--rather more to the latter. There is no way Rhaegar or Lyanna could have anticipated Brandon's being such a moron, or the king killing both Brandon AND Rickard, and a bunch of other Northern lords and their sons. Maybe Rhaegar could have seen murder coming, but only if Aerys got involved and he wouldn't have if Brandon hadn't been such a dumbass. If Brandon had acted like an adult instead of a hot-headed fool, the story would be very different.
You clearly know the timeline well enough to know that the rebellion wasn't actually caused by any of the preceding factors. Was it inevitable that someone was going to rebel eventually? Yes. But Rhaegar's abduction of Lyanna was not why it was inevitable. If you want to blame Rhaegar then blame him for not deposing his father years before and saving the kingdom a ton of trouble. Nobody likes that he took off with the Stark girl, but it did not cause the war.
@@PinkDaisy57 the show isn't thinking about the readers at all. They've cut out so much, it's impossible for them to go back and clear up the misconceptions they've created. But they're not trying to imply that Robert was lying. They're saying that the population of Westeros in general was told something that wasn't true. All of the Stark kids grew up hearing about how Rhaegar had kidnapped and raped their aunt, and that's what everyone else thought too.
@@AnitaClue and that was probably a lie told by Ned Stark in order to protect his sister and Jon. In order to keep his brother-in-law's son hidden, he had to tarnish Rhaegar's good name. Then Robert probably went around telling everyone that and pretty soon the whole Seven Kingdoms believed it.

Let's be honest here, as a person Rhaegar might seem a pretty nice guy, but as a ruler he is as worst as Joffrey. He selfishly started a war that lead of the death of almost the entire his family and a lot of soldiers, i bet people died from starving too. What a dick.
Rhaegar and Joffrey had a thing in common: Entitled and delusional brats who believed their position was a window to do whatever they liked regardless of consequences.
