*Axpona was super fun. This is just the reveal. I will have my impressions of the entire show soon!* Axpona 2024 HiFi/AUDIO SHOW HIGHLIGHTS! Best of The Show 😮: th-cam.com/video/rT7zT0tGK2s/w-d-xo.html
Hey Jay . . been following you since your days at Excellence and now with the great channel of your own - we crossed paths in Montreal in the Excellence room after you were doing a shoot . . . Well, here in all honesty, I am not part of everyone with regard to the C1 LOL . . . I fell in love and still AM in love with a speaker you reviewed last year sometime and I can say that to MY ears, the Dynaudio Heritage Specials have it all over the C1's in their midrange and their highs. The C1's ARE good value but perhaps should be teamed up with a good SWEET sounding tube amp to sweeten up the sound a bit to make C1's a little less analytic and cold sounding ! Keep on keeping on with your FINE videos !!!
I was at AXPONA as well. Great show! I am currently shopping for new bookshelf speakers and thought that hearing Borreson would convince me to buy either the X1 ... or possibly step up to the C1. But i have to say that the Borreson spund is not for me. While I can see how others love them - as they are an extremely fast & detailed sound. However, i found them hyper-detailed with a lack of muaicality or soul. Very impressive for 10 min ... but very clinical and eventually fatiguing for me. I found myself listening to (and for) details, instead of just sitting back and listening to music. For me, I found my sweet spot with Alta Audio. Altal Audio are also detailed and open sounding, with a magical midrange. But I found the Alta Alyssa so much much more musical, and less clinical sounding. In fact, I was so impressed with the Alyssas, I bought them from the distributor the last day of the show. So, I guess this crazy hobby is very subjective after all.
@Nate-vq6bb Indeed it's all about what you're looking for from your system. A fast planar ribbon tweeter system like Borressen will no doubt provide a live and electric experience of electric guitar and tremendous detail insight into every other instrument. My own tastes lean towards appreciating realistic, non-fatiguing natural piano sound on piano concertos, and that's where Dynaudio speakers excel like virtually no others. Especially their Contour and Evoke ranges - when hooked up to high current Class AB amps like old Marantz premium or new Rotel Michi.
Yes they are, alot of people don't realize that a company called Vast invest (SP?) bought 48% of AGD. They are a company that introduces/moves niche products in the global market. Looks like they had a good idea in giving the X series a good taste of the Boresson sound and cover every money bracket on up with the Z (now C series) O series and M series. WOW!
Look forward to your take on this Jay……heard some really great rigs at Axpona. Always good to get it into ones listening environment on your electronics. Will enjoy hearing your outcome. Thanks. Keep ‘em coming.
I heard both the C1 and X1, obviously they were not in the same room, but I thought they were on par with each other with a tad more resolution going to the C1. The X series is very, very good if you don't need or want to spend more cash! I agree with you guys on monitors The Borresen C1 and X1 where very good, but what was equally as good was the Totem's and Triangle speakers, all in similar price ranges but very, very good... I own the X1 but for me the Totems and Triangle sounded more natural.. The best room at the show for me was Joseph Audio, just wish he had less expensive speakers like he used too...
As former Maggie owner and high end Borreson designed speaker owner, I’m willing to bet a properly set up Maggie speaker with true ribbon tweeter will sound more engaging and lifelike than this C1.
Thank you Jay, for sharing this very interesting video with us. The info shared by Michael Borresen (i.e. founder and chief designer of this Borresen C1 speaker) has piques my interest on the mechanism... thank you... 👍
Lars was jamming out to the X1's at SWAF, while attending the room. While it does not describe the sound, the passion for the music was refreshing and fun to see! X1's sounded absolutely fantastic for the price, and more bass than you would expect for their size.
I agree that they are great value but please do yourself a favour and keep an open mind to give a listen to Dynaudio' s Heritage Specials before you plunk down your hard earned cash :-) I did and I'll never look back. Obviously looks are a matter of opinion so if you like the pizazz looks of the C1's then I frankly don't think you'll go for the Dynaudios but if your focus is on lovely, realistic and natural sounding sound with speakers that virtually "disappear" then the Heritage Specials are VERY hard to beat - HOWEVER I have to confess that in terms of VALUE, meaning sound per dollar they kind of suck LOL But for SOUND? WHEW ! You'd have to spend at least 3 times their price to get better :-) So in THAT sense I suppose you COULD say that they are a good value :-) Just saying! Happy listening and shopping !
These were supernatural sounding, like Dolby Atmos out of 2 speakers. I have doubts they’ll be forgiving with poor recordings but I will be trying these again at my local dealer soon.
I'm curious to hear your review on the C1s Jay in comparison to the X2s. More than twice the price from towers to bookshelves and if the price jump is justified. Aside from the components (drivers, crossovers) are the C1 cabinets also made in Denmark hence the price jump?
I read the X1 have a 4.5" mid woofer, looks more like 6-6.5" to me. I see no SPL rating for them either, and a 4.5" mid woofer will be limited in SPL no matter what is claimed. Can you please clarify that one? I'd love to hear them!
The actual cone diameter is a full 4.5 inches, so approximately the same surface area as competitors “6” and “6.5” cones. They could easily get away with claiming it’s a 6” cone but apparently they want to be true to their word.
Correction to "noisless" 3:20. Planar tweeters and drivers have a diaphragm and in fact excactly theese kind of drivers make noise, it is called "diaphragm noise". But due to relatevely small tweeter area (in comparison to large electrostatic panels or other large area magnetostatic drivers) the noise here is probably hardly or no detected by ear. The tweeter is relatively wide so its directivity is for sure compromised in comparison to best 19-22mm domes.
I love thin-film tweeters. I have the GoldenEar BRX (with AMT tweeter). If I ever upgrade, it would be to a Borresen X1 or PS Audio FR5. source=Apple Music
More the Klein tool I’m Interested into the wall covering panel behind the toilet … it looks pretty nice and I’ve been looking for that kind material for so long … can you share info about it ? Many thanks
Wood/fiberboard cabinet is fine, but I suggest it's more about execution. CNC'd aluminum, X resin, Carbon Fiber, 13 ply Baltic Birch ... it's all about execution. Also, he's right about tweeter compression ... it's vital to operate largely free from thermal effects in the tweeter range ... to maintain that ability to accurately track that signal voltage. In my 60's now, as a teen I clearly remember sensing HF compression, and that onset guided listening level ... because it doesn't get any better from that point upward in dBspl.
Heard the X series and nothing comes close in that price bracket. The X series brings 90% of the TOTL M series to the table, very curious how the C series will sound.
Speakers, Cars, Guns, and what other hobbies am i missing that we fudge the numbers with our partners? Never thought i would lust after a set of speakers but here i am... 😢😂
@@Jayiyagi I had thought initially they may be close in price, but that’s still a $5k difference. We won’t make you choose over this pairing; but how about C1 vs X2? And you have to take price into consideration!
