    The Knocking is due to low fuel pressure in the cylinder. It's the same as a spark knock. Just like your 7.3 if you run it out of fuel

  • @edstallard4931
    @edstallard4931 2 ปีที่แล้ว +28

    The price of scrap is about $1.90 a ton. Each of those way 48,000 lbs or $5,000 each. If you can both for $10,000 with the idea of putting one together, that's probably not a bad deal. I vote for both. You can also sell some of the attachments to help lower the cost. Just a thought.

    I realize they’re not free, but I’d love to watch you rescue both, even if you need to use both to yield a single good one, then scrap the balance. The buckets and rakes seem valuable as parts on their own as well. I hope the video does well enough to get you started.

    Offer scrap value for them and make your money back by doing videos on rebuilding them! At worst you scrap them yourself, just my 2 cents.

    If you got the money and time please buy them because all the new stuff is clogged up with computer management and I think these 2 will sell at a higher range price if you rebuild them. I think everyone should buy up all the classic stuff especially the made in the USA. When I get the money I'm going to be buying an old vehicle and putting a Cummins diesel with a six-speed manual in it. They get excellent fuel mileage and don't have to worry much about fixing it for years.

  • @deanchapman6425

    The first one sounds like low fuel pressure or bad injector plungers. The second one might have water in the cylinders, because the rain cap was missing from the stack. I would try to take both and at least get one descent machine if the price is right.

    The first 977 needs a new or refurbished lift pump, the fuel pressure in the mecanical system needs right pressure to work, around 1 bar. it works like a car with carburetor, No fuel presure, No go. Fix the leak in the pump, the machine Will start easier an stop knocking, even get the power back

  • @dozerblade
    @dozerblade ปีที่แล้ว

    I might think the knocking could be an injector, I had one go once, sounded like the crank was snapped.

  • @jameslindley924
    @jameslindley924 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    There is a Banjo filter held up with a swinging wire and Thumb wheel located under the Pump and above/ behind the Alternator just behind where you loosened the fuel pipe !!!- undo the Thumb wheel and drop the long egg cup banjo down and clean the filter inside !!!!!!!!- itll be gummed up.
    Also at least half fill the diesel tank - better full to push it through.
    If fuel is coming out wherte the hour meter is located it may have an internal fuel leak into the Timing Chamber.
    You really need a well equipped workshop with overhead crane to strip it down to access all the issuse

  • @mrnotnomis

    Low fuel pressure on the runner would cause the knocking sound. And if it can hold the bucket up, the main cylinders are good. DEF worth the price at scrap value. The other would probably be good to keep also, if for no other reason than parts and the implement on the front. But I'd bet that once the cylinders are opened up and drained, you'd have a shot at having two runners. I'd LOVE to find a deal like that to keep at the property for dozer/rock work. Neither are viable for real commercial use anymore though.

    I think that knock is itself just cleaning it out,and what i mean by that is its just dumping diesel in to the cylinder and then just not egniting everything,but just some of the fuel and making it seem like a rodknock,but actually its just detonating

    That first looks to be like a pretty good machine. Fix the fuel pissing out the side and then revisit the knock. Worse thing is you have to go into the motor. These are clearing machines. Like 6+ acres a day. Where I'm from you could pay for both machines in one day working it. You could part one out and make a lick as well.

    The way the oil is clean possibility was run with no oil because it is knocking really bad and skipping bad and the fuel pump is leaking bad. The root rake works very well piling brush to burn because you can pick it up and put it on the pile.

    If you go for it remember, biggest expense will most likely be moving the thing around, assuming drivetrain is solid. Those tranny's can have lots of problems. The primer pumps are common rebuild items and Cat should have them in stock if it's just fuel delivery issue. Also you can't rule out a fuel knock/running on 5 cylinders until you fix that gusher

    The first machine has fuel pump and or Ip trouble. These are indirect injection and are noisy. It has to have GP or either to start. There is no Rod Knock. It's fuel related.
    You saw the oil pressure pegged. Bad engine won't do that.
    Second machine will never turn because of the open exhaust.
    You know what those cylinders look. You just went through that with the Detroit In the
    Loader. BTW you ever get that running?
