Lol, I play volleyball for a loooong time as a hobby, I was always bad at setting, but as soon as you said "burger hands" I stood up and tried and I was like "aaaaaaah! Now I get it!" So excited to try during practice next week. The feeling is waaaaay better than before. Thank you so much!!!
Hi I play volleyball too I dont have problems with my sets but sometimes I think theres something wrong but when I watched this video I learned from my mistakes actually my problem is spiking😂
I play volleyball with friends every now and then and I’m trying to set instead of just passing the ball back and forth and yea the second he said burger hands I tried and was like well look at that! Can’t wait for next time I play
I will say, that point about having your index fingers and thumbs being the same distance was a great point and feel it's often not mentioned. It's a great way to keep things consistent and an easy marker for hand positioning. Plus you can feel your muscles feel off once you start rotating and changing the finger distances.
I had played volleyball for some time but quit due to feeling a little burnt out. Then we have some volleyball in the high school i had just started, and i tried it again. Absolutely loved it. Out of everything I did that day, nothing beat that feeling i got when i did a backwards set and my teammate scored on it
i've been playing a casual league volleyball for a few seasons, never really played before otherwise. after watching this video, my team said i basically became a completely different player over night, made a huge difference. thanks for explaining in such a clear and entertaining way. love your vibe man
As someone who just got recommended to be a setter by my friend, im really grateful! Im still a beginner, but i might have the skill to be a setter, and this helps me a lot with that. Thanks!
this was so much help, ive been trying to set for ages, i can pass and serve perfectly but setting was my weakness!! ive watched countless videos on how to properly set and none has helped me as much as this video did. the first tip was a tip i’ve never heard before and immediately improved my setting. thank you so much!❤
1. burger hands, fingers spread, equal distance between index and thumbs. 2. missile launcher lock on, lock onto ball, hold there, consistent contact point, move feet get into position, forehead height, even when setting backwards 3. body like spring, slight bend knee elbows wrist, 4. read your passers, angle of pass, 5. train track setting, on the track and lined up, parralel to net 6. backstroke 7. footwork and energy, net closer to net forward, so doesnt go over net
Thank you. This is very helpful!❤I am a bad setter and i have been playing volleyball for years! I always get double when setting. I will apply these tomorrow!
With the first tip my set Immediately become better with just burger hands my set dont spin that much anymore thank you this video is on so easy to learn
I never liked volleyball until about two months ago, when I realized that playing in a team is one of the best things out there. I've been practising frequently since then, and I just recently decided I wanted to be setter, an ambitious goal. Your video will definitely be a big help with my practice, and I can't wait to try the tips shown in this guide tomorrow!
Thank you Coach! Your wacky names on how to do a set helped me out tremendously. Tryouts are in January, and I really suck at setting. My sets would always be low, and having the part where the ball should hit your head aided me so much. Subbed!
I love this vid coach, could you please consider doing one for spike approach that is similar in format and complexity? Started volleyball about a year ago and learnt 2-step approach to keep things simple but now I struggle learning the 4-step approach you showed in previous vids. Love your work!
I just got into volleyball lately and wantee to be a well rounded player. I didnt really understand the rules until i found your channel, it was reaalllyyy helpful. Its also a very comedic experience beause of how you explain tips and facts. Its been a week since i started and i even know how to do a float serve (actually still working on it :D) Keep it up, Coach! 🎉
Thank you for this, I started playing volleyball a year ago and joined a club and made it to a team a couple months ago. I got the setter position (I’m on the younger side) and I wanted to see what I can do to improve! Thx!
Grande coach, soy de México y soy colocador y estos videos son increíbles, siga subiendo contenido le mando un abrazo 🤙… Thanks for the video, I’m setter and I appreciate this videos 🫶
Coach, you are the best and continue the great work. Me - yeah i can play volleyball but not good in setting even i practiced lot, but missed to practice correct, which i am learning from your video. Thank you so much Artie.
Body like a spring. I tried to learn how to set for several months but couldn't get it down. After watching this video, I realized I need to use my legs as a spring for momentum to push the ball. Very important.
Just started playing Volleyball a few days ago, and noticed that I literally suck at sets, thanks for the video! This is exactly the explanation I needed, and I’ll try and use your teaching in this video to volleyball at my school 😅
@@coachartie In our club we have been discussing the differences between the European approach to setting technique and the Americas and Asia and Australia. Really interesting. Seems to me the European way is a bit harder to learn, due to much more thumb impulse and less arms, while the "giant hamburger" seems to be more accessible, especially when entering the sport and/or moving back and forth between beach and indoor. What's your take on that?
That's a really interesting idea on setting. I'm going to be honest I've never even considered it being taught differently depending on location but it makes sense. What a cool idea. I guess I made this video with me breaking down my understanding of setting into simple imagery. Would this video be considered an Australian way of teaching? Or another way? I'm so curious 🤔
@@coachartie Yeah, in Europe we have this thumb-flick that provides some more energy to cover more distance. It's quite hard to learn and often results in spinning balls and ref calls. After you master it (I don't), it's awesome. In our club we have a colleague player (and coach) joining us for the next months, providing sooo much more perspective and food for thought. I hope we manage to combine the best of two worlds and encourage our players to adapt what works best for them individually.
Choo choo! Thank you... tomorrow will be the next training session. I will: hop onto the train like a spring and eat my burger there while targeting the ball 😊
Just something to be careful with the back set. I feel like doing the 'backstroke' movement is an easy way of getting into the back set as a beginner but a dangerous habit to maintain overtime. I've been taught that staying neutral is key. Either way good video!
I'm Brazilian and my English is basic, but the video is so well explained that I understood the explanation perfectly and I'm going to put it into practice. Thank you for the tips🏐💟
Thanks for this. Could you do tips for: learning how to aim the set better? I follow all these cues but sometimes I put in far too much power, and my accuracy is unreliable. Also I can't tell where the ball is going to go when I back set, sometimes it goes into the net, sometimes way past the court. Also with jump serving am I supposed to just use spiking footwork once I've learned how to throw it consistently?
For starters try and be square to the net. When setting either forwards or backwards, your shoulder are 90 degress to the net and the ball should travel parallel to the net. Everything else is a shit ton of practice. Theres no other secret to aiming, than what coach artie said and 10 000 repetitions of the same. Try and see how the ball feels, if you set badly. Were you under the ball and where did your hands touch the ball? Noticing that and practicing consistently will make you a great setter with time
Ok thanks. I feel my sets getting more consistent so I think im doing it technically right, just need more practice as you said since I have only some rec hours per week and no practice gym space. Do you have any advice for spiking timing tho? Im 6'5 and can easily reach above the net, but I find myself often too early and under the ball even though i wait for setter contact. I also struggle to hit down and get on top of the ball even though I know i should be contacting the top, not the side of it@@oniichan242
great video :3 But ive got a question, is there any benefit to jump when setting? Like- ive done a few times just out of fun and i think its easier to just boop the ball over the net at second contact as a setter as a surprise attacl sometimes, but is it something worth to learn consistently?
Good question! In there.will have to be an adjustment in the angle.of you set or the power distribution between hands. I think of it more of a throw with my hand claser to the net. I know it's not the best explanation 🤣 I'll try make a vid on it in the future Hope that make sense 🙏😊
Setting an effective ball really deopends on who your setting. Biggest goal as a setter should be setting in and off the net to give your spikers as many options as possible.
