      @Static Gaming No, it's fine. Like, season 4 and 5 were slow and boring for the most part but they needed to be that way because we were learning essential information about Salem, the relics, etc. Season 6 was much better. I don't know how anyone thinks this volume is bad. It was pretty good overall, especially episodes like this one, or the one about Salem and Ozpin's backstory. Season 7 and 8 had a couple of plot flaws but overall were great too. This show hit a bad spot, but then recovered pretty well. Each character developed a lot from who they were in Season 3.

    • @Cazammaf
      @Cazammaf 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @Static Gaming Tell that to the growing popularity and ratings and over 280+ million views across youtube, blue ray, dvd and RT site. With about 150 million of those views being paid for too. 700k individual volume sales too on just blue ray and dvd in the US, the UK, Australia and Japan alone. They've made multiple dozens of millions in the past 3 years off of just merch and views on the site and blue ray. If the show was really as bad as you say, why are more and more people paying to watch it? They're getting more than enough revenue to keep making the show. Why are they getting an official DC Justice League crossover film, a Paladins crossover event, a new manga, a new spinoff anime show, a new cross platform high budget game with Arrowfell. Why do they keep producing volumes? Why is it ranked in the top 100 blue ray sales for action/adventure films/shows out of literally 1,000's. It's got hundred's of 5 star ratings and reviews on every single volume on Amazon too. The show is ranked in the top 5 percentile of animated shows, which means RWBY has higher demand than 98.7% of all other animated shows in the US right now. It also has 18.7x the demand of every other average TV series in the US and UK in the last month, and only 2% of all other TV shows have this level of demand. The show is good.

    when it comes to Ruby's character flaw, she has what I like to call "the Buffy complex"; the one with the protagonist/main cast energies also has to be the glue of the group and therefore, doesn't deal with all their baggage until they literally have no choice ( Steven Universe, Katara form ATLA, etc). she has this habit of trying to do something and moving forward immediately after something bad happens. she saw penny get cut to pieces, and the first thing she does after that is get into a fight with a giant bird grim to protect her friend. during the battle of beacon in Vol. 3, when she finds out that Yang lost her arm, she does the hero speech and goes off to look for Jaune and Phyra. she said herself that she is a lot better at killing monsters than talking to people; especially about 'feelings'. and although she is getting better about that, she still struggles with it.

    The Apathy were based off a few things: a scarecrow that Miles Luna found on reddit, the reavers from Firefly, and the Tale Of Bartleby The Schrivener
    Also, the show does a great job of taking Qrow's alcoholism, which has previously been used a joke, and remind us why it's called a drinking problem

    • @whenwordsfailmusicspeaks246
      @whenwordsfailmusicspeaks246 2 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Actually they are not also based on the Reavers from Firefly. They are based on the G-23 Paxilon Hydrochlorate or "Pax" that was used on Miranda (yes it created the Reavers but the actual Reavers wasn't the Inspiration Miles tweeted that was used) the story Maria reads is a cross between the Bartleby story and the Story in the Hologram Playback on Miranda

    What you have to realize is that while Ruby has her own issues, one of her defining character traits is that she longs to be a hero, which means to her putting everyone before herself. So her issues are not always at the forefront the way everyone else's are. This volume really drives home the point of Ruby being the central driving force character that everyone is centering around.

    Maria: Gather around children, time for a story.
    Once upon a time an awesome woman named Maria Calavera came across a group of six people after surviving a train crash.
    The group was very upset at an old man that was inside a little boys body
    They got even more upset after learning that everything they knew was a lie. So Maria suggested they move up the trail to which they all complied.
    They eventually came across a farm and decided to stay the night. However, everyone on the farm had drank the kool aid and never woke up.
    Nighttime came and everyone was really bummed out. The shaggy man was drinking so he could be very happy, and then very sad.
    When morning came, they were getting ready to leave, but they were being a bunch of Depressing Debras.
    Shaggy went off to get more acceptance juice, and the Red one dropped the lamp thing down the well.
    Red and her friends went to retrieve it, but they were encountered by a bunch of squatters.
    Because Maria spent her time reading instead of mopping around, she managed to come to their rescue.
    The squatters made loud complaints which made the girls not want to do anything.
    With Maria’s help, the Red one learned to use her Rinnegan to do away with the gibdo’s.
    They left the farm as quickly as possible, but not before committing arson, and got the f*&k out of dodge.
    In the end, everyone learned that reading is power, and old people are always right.
    The End
    Ruby: Maria, that’s not really what happened.
    Maria: whose telling the story?
    Ruby: you are?
    Maria: That’s right you little lloróna.

    Fun Facts
    Fact 1: The idea for the story that takes place in this episode existed before Volume 1 was written.
    Fact 2: Miles based the episode's plot on the short story Bartleby the Scrivener by Herman Melville.
    Fact 3: Maria is colorblind, which was evident in the episode when we learn she couldn't tell Ruby's eye color immediately.
    Fact 4: According to the writers, seeing the burning Apathy made Qrow realize that he almost let everyone get killed and now start to hate himself.

    Since no one has talked about this. I think Miles or Kerry had talked about there being a clue to how the Apathy kill in the huntsman’s skeleton in the sewers. One of them even told the other how they kill and the other said “That’s the darkest thing I’ve ever heard.” Since then a lot of people have come to the conclusion that when the Apathy drain your will so much that you don’t do anything they stick their long fingers down your throat and blend up your organs, and since you’re so subdued you can’t fight back or even bother with the pain.

    Ruby knows Qrow is an alcoholic, she's just getting really fed up. She showed that clarity last episode with realizing about the alcohol (and Weiss knows her mom is an alcoholic, too, from her conversation with Yang in V5).
    Also, it's interesting how Qrow mentioned back in the V3 finale that "it was said that even a single look from one of these [Silver-eyed Warriors] could strike a Grimm down."
    Important distinction: Jinn said that Oz couldn't Destroy Salem, not Defeat.
    Part of Ruby's struggle is clearer in the OST (especially V1's).

    I still want Qrow's backstory, I have a feeling he blames himself for Summer Rose's death, that's why he is drinking a lot. Also, I think his semblance isn't bad luck, but random luck, but his view of life makes it bad. (Another theory of mine and others, that Ruby's real father is Qrow.)

    Oz's betrayal hits Qrow especially hard, because from his perspective, think of how many friends and family he's lost along the way. Since he was a teenager, he's seen classmates and a close teammate, die for a lie. For an impossible cause. He's spent the last 17 years defending Oz to his sister, and she's just been proven right about everything she said about him. And to top it all off, Oz has spent countless lifetimes trying to think of a way to stop Salem, and he's still got no idea at all. So everyone who has died so far, didn't just die for Oz's lie, their deaths accomplished absolutely nothing, because there is no plan at all. A total waste. That would break anyone. Add to that, that Oz's cause was the one thing Qrow had to feel wanted and useful, but now it just seems that Oz was preying on his weakness to use him as a pawn. From Qrow's perspective, he gave everything to Oz, and Oz saw him as completely disposable.

    • @Mirality
      @Mirality 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      The lack of a plan does not equate to wasted effort. Having a plan might be better, of course, but they're still accomplishing something.

    • @Scarabswarm
      @Scarabswarm 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@Mirality think of it like building a house. If you just start nailing boards together, maybe you'll get lucky and the end result will be livable. But more likely, working without a plan means that a lot of those nails and joints and walls are in the wrong place, and all the effort put into them could have been better used elsewhere.
      Or chess. Someone playing randomly or reactionarily _might_ beat someone with a plan, but it's not likely. They just flail about, wasting their limited moves shifting pieces that aren't useful, or being baited into making obvious counters that leave them open elsewhere. The best that someone playing like that can hope for is usually a stalemate. Which is what Oz had, up until now. He's lost so many pieces though just from playing reactively, that he can't react anymore.

    • @Mirality
      @Mirality 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      He did have a plan -- but the plan mostly centered around keeping the Relics in safe places (i.e. to prevent Salem bringing them together, not actually to defeat her). And it has worked reasonably well for a long time; but is vulnerable to internal corruption. And ultimately it is aiming for a stalemate. It's hard to win against a player that's actively trying to achieve a stalemate, although not impossible, especially if you have all the time in the world (literally).

    • @Scarabswarm
      @Scarabswarm 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@Mirality a plan for a stalemate is not a plan for victory.
      "Professor, what _is_ your plan to defeat Salem?" "I don't have one"
      "We signed on to try to save the world, not just... delay the inevitable"
      The point is that this isn't the fight they signed on for, not the fight that Oz led them to believe, and that the issue of disillusionment is a direct result of Oz cultivating the illusion in the first place.

    • @BlueButterfly015
      @BlueButterfly015 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    The Apathy were partially inspired by the story of Bartleby the Scrivener. To sum it up, it's basically a story about a man that became so apathetic to the world that he refused to eat or drink or move, stating that he'd "prefer not to" until he died. It was revealed by the writers that these Grimm were supposed to have made an appearance back in V1 but were deemed too powerful for that time in the show. They kept getting pushed back until, finally, V6.
    They seemed to have been made for this moment, in all honesty. Our heroes are at a severe low point. Their ability to trust Oz not to lie to them has been reduced to nothing (and he's abandoned them), they just found out their final boss is immortal. Their morale is completely shot. They have no other objective than get the Lamp to Atlas, which to them in this moment, seems so pointless after learning the truth. "Delaying the inevitable," Oscar calls it.
    It's such a perfect time for these new Grimm, that it wouldn't be unusual to not second guess the fact that they're all Tired and questioning why they have to do all this. But as the scene outside the house goes on, we get more on edge. The music comes back in with these strings, and the characters' pupils are blown and dull, and their voices become more and more lifeless until even Ruby starts to succumb.
    God I just really love this episode and I love these Grimm. Crwby just really blew it out of the park with this one.

    Its funny, apparently Miles and Monty had been planning the Apathy since season 1, but every time they tried to fit it in, it didn't really work with the tone of the season. So they had to wait until the show got a little more, serious. 😁 They choose the emotion Apathy because they believed it was the opposite if love. Her punishment is to be Alone, while ozpin reincarnates into someone who is already alive, it isn't like the avatar where u reincarnate into a baby and You'll have you own life. no ozpin is essentially coexisting with someone until they merge into one person which is kinda of fuckedup. What I think the reason is, is that Saleem had a body to 'freeze' her life span while Oz died and so his soul is what lives on, a soul needs to pass between not be frozen in place which is why Saleem doesn't reincarnated but Oz does

    This is my favorite episode of rwby and last favorite episode to react to, because everyone compares them to Redeads which I find disrespectful. As mentioned by exactly one person in this video, the Apathy aren't just a monster. You don't freeze because they're scary. They're depression. They're clinical depression as a physical monster and I've never seen emotional trauma literalized so well before in anything.

    It’d be even scarier if the Apathy just started grabbing and slaughtering people. The estate’s backstory what’s gives me chills. I love it.

    lol Everyone tends to forget that Salem can die. It's only been 3 chapters but they forget that she's shown reconstituting from a pile of ash after her battle with Ozma. He's crawling away and you see her reform from that black pile of ash before she walks over to him and finishes him off. So she can die. She just can't stay dead. Her immortality is that she doesn't stay dead.
    The punishment was intended to make it so that she couldn't go to the "afterlife" to be with Oz. They'd be forever separated. I think the intention of putting Oz in other bodies was to attempt to keep him from her forever. Hoping that she wouldn't figure out who he was. Warning Oz before sending him back seems to be a way to try to keep him from searching her out and nullifying the whole purpose of making her immortal. It wasn't just to keep him from "ever being alone." I think that was the "god's" way of trying to keep Salem in that state of punishment.

    The god of light told Ozma that he would never be alone. Him and his "like-minded" host will always eventually take up the battle against Salem. Whereas Salem has been alone, and continues to be so.

    Maria reading the journals is both the smart and dumbest part of this episode. Smart that she wants to check to see what happened to the village, dumb that she wouldn’t start at the end and work her way back

    "qrow is proving himself less and less useful"
    yeah its really a shame. thats cause the writers slowly want to turn any adult completly useless or wrong so they can get away with "children" always being right and knowing it and being better. (see ozpin). they are incapable of archieving the latter without the former.
    dont worry, there is even more of that later.

    • @kaxewdisco3594
      @kaxewdisco3594 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I mean, I won't argue for the rest of the adults (especially Ozpin) but it makes perfect sense for Qrow to be written this way and it feels like the natural progression of his character from V3.
      V6 did wonders for Qrow honestly.
