Ambrosius didn't deceive them he gave them exactly what they asked for. Had Weiss not said "one way" ticket to Vacuo it would not have been a one way portal. He was even kind enough to tell them to not fall, he didn't have to do that.
I’ve never been this hyped for a man sitting at a computer before, Watts is an awesome villain, he’s so good at playing the game that no one even knows he’s playing it, he always prided himself in being the smartest in the room, the one pulling the strings, it’s a shame that, that pride is what allowed him to be used by Ironwood, Salem, and now Cinder
One of the things I really liked about this episode was some of the character expressions that conveyed so much without saying anything, like Jinn’s look of shock and then look of “as you wish” resignation towards Cinder’s question, and especially Ironwood’s single tear cascading down his otherwise completely stone face when he realizes he has to fight Winter to the death.
You would never think that level of animation would be possible just by watching the first 2 volumes I wish we got more emotional damage with Ironwood and Winter than just a single tear but it gets the point across, she was the last thing the Tin man’s heart bleed for Ironwood reminds me of the infinite man Fairytale, some see him as a hero, others as a fool, even more see him as a villain Ozpin: “I say why can’t it be both?”
Despite being totally on point about how Cinder's question is short-term goal oriented, it's the first time in a while that she was able to make these kinds of decisions to her advantage. It also, intentionally or otherwise, ends up being asset denial not just to the heroes, but to Salem. Cinder clearly doesn't want to stay subservient to Salem forever, so taking an asset away from her helps her as well.
I think it’s brilliant, the heroes would have had a resounding victory if it where not for Cinder and Watts It also serves as a dark reminder of what could have been, team Rwby and Ironwood could have done the same thing cinder did, ask the lamp what Salem was planning, an been able to pull one over her but unlike Cinder, Neo, and Watts our hero’s couldn’t settle there differences
I agree on pretty much all of that. Though I'd argue that Cinder's question to Jinn was actually *_THE BEST POSSIBLE QUESTION_* she could have asked in that moment. Remember, Cinder secretly plans to further her own goals behind Salem's back and lie to Salem about it later, and while Cinder *_is_* using both Watts and Neo to do her bidding, they are both ultimately loose ends who run the risk of outing her lies to Salem later (Neo has already betrayed Cinder twice, and Watts and Cinder hate each other), so Cinder knows she can't ask Jinn anything that might be perceived as going against Salem while Watts and Neo are in her presence. Besides, Cinder doesn't even need to. Cinder already knows what she needs to do in order to defeat Salem and take over the world (gain the powers of all the Maidens and maybe also some Relics), and she doesn't need to ask what Salem's true plans/goals are either because Cinder doesn't intend to let Salem get all four Relics at once to achieve those plans/goals anyway. It doesn't matter what they are. Thus, Cinder's question is not short-sighted or short-term at all because it not only allows her to defeat all her enemies and claim the Staff and/or Maiden powers, but also sets Cinder up for the future by eliminating loose ends in Watts and Neo and tricking Salem into continuing to support her in her quest for ultimate power.
@@effortlessfury Very true, though Cinder had good reason to: Neo has already betrayed Cinder twice at this point (temporarily leaving Cinder's services and trying to assassinate her in Volume 6, as well as just now in Volume 8 by threatening her with the Lamp), and Cinder and Watts hate each other -- both of them are loose ends who run the risk of outing the lies that Cinder had planned to tell Salem later. So Cinder just used them up for her purposes and then discarded them.

So this episode made me realize just how much I care about this series. Yang falling tiggered a solid week of me going through a mental rollercoaster so bad that I actyually needed to spend a whole day and a half talkin to a friend to calm myself down. It has its ups and downs but god do I love this show.
The opening teased so many things this volume and we didn't even know it at the time. Cinder walking around while everyone else is frozen was her using the lamp. I'm excited for them to see the last episode of RWB volume 8.
Thing is, Jaune's group weren't there when Ambrosious said "Do not fall", so they don't know that rule... Wouldn't matter anyway, since Watts cut communications 😂😂 Also, when Cinder asked Jinn her question about Ruby, Jinn looked visibly sad, probably due to liking Ruby and her friends, but being a spirit for the lamp, she has no choice but to answer
Another point a lot of people miss regarding Ironwood in this moment is he doesn’t know about the plan to save everyone. Jauques just says Atlas is falling so he likely assumes Salem has the Staff, not RWBY.
While Atlas may not know of the plan to save everyone, Ironwood certainly knows that Ruby and the heroes have the Staff. After all, they were the ones who beat him and the next thing he knows Atlas is falling, and with Salem MIA currently, that could only mean one thing. He even says: *_"THEY... THEY'VE got the Staff."_* Not "she".
To be fair, Ambrosius actively opened by warning them that he would give them EXACTLY what they wanted and he didn't want to here them complain about it.
(At 12:32) in the end, looks like Weiss's father DID get away with this, after all. Thanks to the heart is Tin Man general, now that he's dead, he can't be prosecuted for his actions.
You actually double-dropped the finale like you said, wow. Thanks! In case you guys don't yet know, the title of this episode, "Worthy", refers to Cinder. Remember back when Watts told her that *_"you can't just be deserving, you have to be WORTHY."_* Cinder has taken those words to heart and used them to become an even better villain, and given her successful plan in this and the next chapter, Cinder has proven that she is indeed worthy.
I think whoever the next "genie" we see, whether it be from the Crown or the Sword (cant remember which is hidden under Beacon) will be a lot more devious. They've gotten so lucky with Jinn and Ambrosius being helpful and lenient despite the fact children are really underestimating just how paradigm shifting these reality warping relics really are. I mean that's not just their fault tho, using the staff of creation just to make a floating city really is a waste. The only limitation seems to be imagination since clearly Ambrosius just needs to know the specifics/ design of objects, not what they'll need to be made out of. You could just show him a space shuttle and what it needs to be bake to achieve and he could make it, you wouldn't need to make sure he uses all the correct materials, he'd do that himself.
It wasn't really a waste to lift Atlas off the ground. Oscar explained Ozma's reasoning behind it in Volume 7. Ambrosius didn't say it was a waste either, just that he didn't find it a particularly interesting or imaginative thing for him to do.
Ambrosius only has the limitations of the minds who use him. Even last episode he was fully willing to bend space and time as long as whoever summoned him had a scientific explanation of exactly how to do and why it works. He is an immensely powerful being.
Fun Facts Fact 1: This is the second episode to have a photosensitive warning, the first being "Ultimatum". For epileptic people, the moment in question is when the inside of the portals are shown, and lasts from 1:49 to 1:52 and 2:11 to 2:14, as well as at 10:24, when Ironwood shoots Jacques. Fact 2: The episode's description is a nod to the idiom, "the best-laid plans of mice and men often go awry," an idiom stemming from To a Mouse, on Turning Her Up in Her Nest With the Plough, November, 1785, a poem written by Robert Burns in 1785. It likely serves as a double allusion to Cinder's own allusion of Cinderella, who befriends the mice of her abusive household in the 1950 Disney animated feature. Fact 3: The title of the episode likely alludes to Watts' rant towards Cinder in "Ultimatum" quoting: "You can't just be deserving, you have to be worthy." Fact 4: The portal fly-through effect required a lot of coordination in order to get right. Richard Norman, the Lead Editor, originally had each shot last a couple seconds. Connor Pickens had this trimmed down to just a few frames per shot so that it would be more disorienting. Various locations in Atlas zoom past in the background. Fact 5: According to Connor Pickens, there were multiple feedback sessions about how the dune by the portal in Vacuo should look. While they assumed that a sand dune should be simple, it needed to be dynamic enough to house potentially two cities worth of people, and be shaped in such a way that excess characters 'fall off' the other side to imply that there are a lot more people than are visible onscreen. Fact 6: Miles Luna was low-key worried when he saw people watching week to week and theorizing that Cinder might have a change of heart after Watts' verbal smackdown in "Ultimatum", as he knew the emotional whiplash those people would have once they saw Cinder open up the fight in this episode by insta-killing a crowd of civilians and raining down corpses into the unknown abyss. Fact 7: While it was never shown who exactly released Ironwood from his cell in the episode, Eddy Rivas confirmed that it was Arthur Watts who opened it. In early drafts of the episode, Watts opening the cell was shown before it was cut for time. Fact 8: Jacques was given one more moment to gloat to remind the audience why he was a terrible person before Ironwood kills him off. Fact 9: The way Ironwood comes down the Vault elevator was meant to call back to how Oscar came down it at the end of the previous Volume. Fact 10: This episode marks the first appearance of the Ravagers in the series, as prior to this episode they've only appeared in the books and RWBY: Amity Arena.
Ironwood's semblance makes him horribly ill and while it's no excuse I just simply can't hate him for what his semblance drove him to do beyond reason.
Ruby now suspects that Summer is alive in a Grimm, so Weiss is the only member of Team RWBY who definitely has a dead parent... and she doesn't know about it yet.

The portals to Vale, Patch, Haven, or Kuo Kuana where they KNOW it's safe would have been nice, instead of the most violent and dangerous country in the world
Vale and Haven are still recovering from their own grimm attacks, Patch is a *tiny* island that can't hold two kingdoms of population on top of what it already has, and Kuo Kuana's already overpopulated and the rest of Menagerie is full of creatures just as dangerous as Vacuo in a much smaller area. Vacuo's the one place that's still at full strength and has the room to house two kingdoms of refugees.
@@Khadharphak I meant more than on single gate. There could be multiple destination gates and let the civilians decide which destination they want to go to. Maybe Faunus have family in the Menagerie. Or mix between Vale, Vacuo, Mistral, and Pyrrha hometown. Let the civilians choose. (Also Professor Port said that the cities mostly safe and can possibly open up the school again last we saw. So even Beacon seems to be fine now.) How much water, food, shelter, medicine, etc. Can you expect from a desert city? Even Vacuo students and Huntsman refused to help during the Fall of Beacon and laughed and made fun of Beacon and Vale for failing to protect their kingdom. Honestly I don't expect any help from them id they stick to their established beliefs.
i mean next arc is vacuo and as far we know, most of the teams and huntresses/huntermans are there due to relocating from vale and mistral attacks by salem. makes the most logical sense plot wise.
Ren's rant to Yang this volume was spot on correct. everything he said was correct. Ruby's naivety and everything is the result of this. he was right when he said, "people are going to die because of us.'
The neat thing is about the final question… it causes you to realize that the villains arent thinking to use it wisely. I mean sure Salem wants it for the long term but she wants it for the end goal of summoning the gods, not necessarily to ask it a question. Of course cinder is going to use the question for something stupid. And that doesnt speak to her character, it speaks to her goal. Team RWBYJNOR were only careful with it because they dont have two precious things: time and resources . Villain team doesnt really have that sense of caution.
To be honest I've officially given up on Cinder as a villain I'll like. Watts for example was an amazing villain in multiple aspects that had me rooting for AND against him at the same time. Meanwhile cinder has been more....annoying then anything. I thought after Watts's speech she would have learned and changed in some way but lets be honest she didn't learn a dam thing. If she went through some sort of progression or arc or ANYTHING I think she could have been great. I think the scene with neopolitan was supposed to be that but it felt so hollow. Just one persons opinion, if you like her that's fine not trying to put you down. I just don't really think I'm invested in her anymore.
I like that there's some subtle realization that Jacque's death was questionable here. His and Weiss (and the rest of the family) story arc hasn't properly concluded. Weiss "pulling rank" on her father with the Hunter Badge scene was an unrealistic way of how growth is established in such toxic relationships. Jacques should have survived, along with Ironwood. And Ruby should have stayed in Remnant. It would have been interesting if these three alone were stuck together in Atlas afterwards and through arguing with each other, face the flaws in their perspectives and allow character growth. Then you can kill off Jacques/Ironwood
The portal opened on the tracks, not the platform, but I suppose that would ruin the joke. Cinder seems to have taken Watts' critisism to heart. And *here* is the moment I mentioned it at the start of the volume. Imagine that Ironwood had imprisoned the other council members, in the same place the others ended up in; and that he just killed them with Jacques. Wouldn't his fall have been more organic and believable than the instacrazy murder in chapter one? *After* deciding to threaten the lives of Ruby's friends? The final nail in the coffin that makes a formerly interesting and layered character irredeemable, instead of reducing him to a cartoon villain so they can do all the tropes. Followed by this volume's 'stupid for the sake of the plot' moment, that is now the show's motif in the chapters leading up to the finale. Yang could've yelled to Ruby and started shooting, forcing Neo to use her parasol to shield herself instead of attacking; but Yang needs the momentum to fall, so in she charges, and her aura somehow gets oneshotted along the way. Why? To lose consciousness, so she can't propel herself to a lower platform. Ruby just zipped up the hole in the bottom of Atlas to the vault, should be no problem. Weiss could catch her with a gravity glyph. But the girlfriend has to try instead. (I'm all for bumblebee, but they still haven't made it canon.) Y'know what would have been more tragic than this? A *conscious* Yang reaching for Gambol and missing, *instead* of saving herself! Meanwhile, I hope Harriet dies, more than Cinder or Neo. I can't be the only one hearing (Aang/Korra) Avatar theme at 15:33, right? I've never seen anyone else mention it.
Ambrosius didn't deceive them he gave them exactly what they asked for. Had Weiss not said "one way" ticket to Vacuo it would not have been a one way portal. He was even kind enough to tell them to not fall, he didn't have to do that.

Ren's rant to Yang this volume was spot on correct. everything he said was correct. Ruby's naivety and everything is the result of this. he was right when he said, "people are going to die because of us.'
Yang fans had a very hard time in-between this episode and the finale 😅
If not for RWBY's tone this world would qualify as GrimDark.
Maybe they fell into an island where you can see the dead and the Gods that you never knew existed
"He's going to let him go, right?" heheh
12:48 I’m more satisfied than I expected being reminded that
Ironwood erased Jacques 💀
If you like the “genie screws you” trope, you must watch “Bedazzled” with Brenden Fraser.
The Twisted Metal storylines was always great and soooo dark too
Well you know I guess it would make sense if his name is Ambrosius in that regard. After all. Fucking is the creative process of all life.
DOUBLE DROP BLESS
Woo two in one day!
Since you guys are currently done with RWBY and almost finished with Lucificer. You guys need to react to Amphibia.
Double upload 👀👀👀
Blake and Weiss are the only ones fast enough to keep up with Neo....and if Weiss time-dilates Blake they could take Neo.
Good Soliders follow orders
-Harriet probably
12:28 ARE YA 'BOUT TO K¡LL JACQ-
...
*Sure thing.* 🚬
Dat white girl was stressed 💀💀💀 exactly how I felt white dude like show is over for me I'm like right they got me fucked up
The portal opened on the tracks, not the platform, but I suppose that would ruin the joke.
So Twisted Metal = Squid Game?
Yang is my least favorite of rwby but still sucked seeing her fall
