Big mistake with Accrington Stanley being replaced by Middlesbrough Ironopolis in 1893, it was Accrington FC they replaced (Accrington FC being a founder member of the Football League in 1888, losing a test match in 1893, and then resigned from the league instead of joining the Second Division - the club eventually went extinct a few years later). Accrington Stanley was founded in 1891, and joined the FL in 1921. Stanley have never played above the 3rd tier, and Accrington FC never played in the 2nd tier, which is a unique "feat" for any English or Welsh town/city never having a club play at that level but play at levels above and below!
Glossop is the smallest town to have been host to a top flight club!
A club not in this list is Thames, they hold the distinction of having the biggest stadium in terms of capacity in the history of the top 4 divisions (and I believe the lowest ever attendance for an FL natch excluding games played behind closed doors).
Loughborough Town have the distinction of handing Arsenal their biggest ever defeat (0-8) and being on the wrong end of Arsenal's biggest ever win (12-0)
Leeds City, Maidstone United, South Shields, Gateshead, Burton United (merger between Burton Swifts and Burton Wanderers) other noteworthy former FL sides.
One other glaring omission is Wimbledon FC, as in a previous video (top 10 teams to have never played in the Prem), you counted AFC Wimbledon, essentially counting Wimbledon FC and AFC Wimbledon as two separate entities - remember the MK Dons gave up the history of Wimbledon FC so MK Dons are not a continuation of WFC
Thanks for the comment mate!
Yeah I meant Accrington fc not Stanley that's my mistake but thank you for the feedback! It all helps and rhe teams you mentioned can be used in future videos :)
@@GoodSportReviews I think plenty of people assume the two sides are one and the same!
There's a few others - Maidstone United, Macclesfield Town, Rushden and Diamonds for example.
Definitely mate! Future video :)
Also York City, Darlington, Hereford United, Aldershot, Yeovil, Kidderminster Harriers, Barnet, and Boston United.
Southport, Workington, Torquay United, Scunthorpe United, Southend United, Oldham Athletic
Halifax Town ....
we're always forgotten 😢
@all-england-r-we5071 future videos mate! I'll be sure to mention them! :)
Another possibility for a follow-up video is Stalybridge Celtic, who were founder members of Third Division North, finished mid-table twice and resigned from the League because they couldn't afford it. They're the only one of the 'Tameside Six' (six long-established non-League clubs in the Tameside district of Greater Manchester which until Bury's demise was the only district without a League Club) to have ever played League football. It's widely-claimed that six established clubs vying for support ensures none of them will ever be big enough to reach the Football League.
Perfect mate! Happy to use it for the follow up! :)
Spot on mate, I grew up in Stalybridge, I use to watch them regularly
@sirhowardkendall8336 I'll be sure to mention them mate! Always happy to include other clubs! :)
@@sirhowardkendall8336 Been there a few times but always with my club: I support Droylsden.
South Shields are worthy of a mention
Happy to add for the next one mate!

I remember doing videos on Darwen F.C. and Accrington F.C.
Uhh, I hope nobody's forgotten that Bury played in the top 4 divisions, considering they only went bust a few years ago...
Amazing to see that Middlesborough Ironopolis shirt that has had modern Middlesborough FC resemblance.
A lot of pre-war (WW1 and 2) histories must have been lost or forgotten because it was a time before newsreels etc. A real shame!
I've been really looking into these clubs recently and they're so interesting!

Football was invented in Cambridge in 1840, so it took 48 years to create a national league. Quite a long time.
Nelson, Workington & Aberdare Athletic are 3 more that come to mind
You need to change the thumbnail - Bury AFC have *never* played in the league; they were set up after Bury FC were expelled from the Football League. (Not that I would have thought people forgot they were in the league - their expulsion made national news, not just that in the Manchester area.)
Hey thanks for the feedback!
It was an odd choice I agree, ot was more to do with the incredible length of time they played in the top 4 divisions for :)
Workington Afc
If most people remember Bury, then it's not forgotten 😮
Hey mate, it was more people forgot how long they spent in the top 4 flights, I worded it poorly 😂
Bury are such an odd inclusion on this list given how widely known they are, particularly over say Thames FC (who are mentioned) who were only briefly in the league. Workington are another obvious omission alongside Nelson
Hey thanks for the feedback mate!
It was more the shock of how long they competed in the top flights for :)
You forgot Abadare another Welsh team that was in the league.
Discounting mergers and with a cut-off point of 1987 when re-election ceased to be a thing we have Stalybridge Celtic, Durham City, Wigan Borough, New Brighton, Ashington, Aberdare Athletic, Thames, Gateshead, Workington and others I may have missed.
Thanks for the feedback mate! There is going to be a second video very soon!

Leeds City
What about workington
One for a future video mate :) definitely!
Why was Brighton part of the Lancaster league ? No wonder they went bust with those costs
New*
@@Ahmetyavas34 new Brighton was based in Brighton which is 100s miles from Lancaster
@@chrishatton3620 yup
@@chrishatton3620 New Brighton is on The Wirral in Merseyside
12:01 New Brighton is on the Wirral - ie. that square shaped peninsular on the opposite side of the Mersey to Liverpool. It is not the same place as the Brighton on the south coast.
Bradford Park Avenue
Southport ?
1. It's pronounced "Darren" not "Dar-when"
2 Bath City have never played in the top 4 divisions (Bristol Rovers shared ground shared with them for a time)
A team for the next video mate :) and my apologies haha
11:46 Southern League Premier Division South or North?
South mate :)
There is no North section, but there is a Central section.
How do you get shot by a sniper rifle?
did Brighton & Hove have 2 footballclubs?
What about Bath City
I thought they were always in the non-league.
Bath City never competed in the top 4 divisions as far as I'm aware but I might be wrong! :)
What about them?
And Kenny Davenport of Bolton scored the 1st and 2nd goals.
