- I've been looking for a cheap, portable metal bandsaw for the last few months and the Femi SN105XL ticks these boxes.

Great vid, thanks for sharing! If you are going to cut lots of thick pieces like in your video try to find a blade with the biggest teeth possible. Usually thin material like square tubes require a high number of small teeth but with large sections of aluminum, fewer and larger teeth will speed up the cut.

Hi, the kink in the blade that you mention is where the blade is welded. Large spools of saw blade stock are cut to length and then welded into loops when the blades are manufactured. All band saw blades will have them, some are just more noticeable than others.
Thanks for letting me know, thats very helpful. I actually ended up snapping this blade just last night which is very annoying as I've only done a dozen cuts on it. Ordered a new blade today and will see how long that one lasts. I've heard blade last years for some people and just months for others so maybe I was unlucky.
@@ThisDesignedThat No problem. I would plan on buying multiple blades. They are a consumable part , they are going to get worn out, you will lose teeth, snap, etc. You will also want to have different blades for different applications as someone else pointed out. To cut larger pieces, such as in yoir video, you will want a blade with fewer teeth. For thin material you want many teeth. I would keep a selection of blades on hand with multuples of each type.
thanks for this info, i'll be picking up some larger teeth blades too if thats the case as I need to cut more of this huge alu stock I have.
Cool video man! I've been looking at the 782XL, fed up cutting 45's with an angle grinder or my sliding miter.
if you cut a lot of steel you'll love something like this! Preferably get something with auto downfeed too
There are two washers on the base with a screw going through the middle . These are used to adjust the accuracy

The blades do last a while but when they go they go ! and make you jump out of your skin ! lol
On the whole, it pays to buy some spare bi-metal blades and keep them handy, as when this machine works, it works very well and its worth its weight in gold !

Congratz! Great investment! I bought a chop saw since I could not afford a bandsaw. (Better than Nothing:)) Bandsaw definetly feels superior to a chop saw when it comes to universial use.

Sir Could you compare the blade life by a cut off disk on an angle grinder ? I mean, like 1 bandsaw blade get dull at the same time as the 10 cut off disk is totally over?
The bar you weren't sure of, looks to be a material stop. If you need several parts, it goes through the hole in the base to set up a repeatable cut off length.

Femi bandsaw products are made in Italy and offered in the United states by HE&M saw, as well as Trick Tools.
The U.S. alternatives listed in the video's description are cheaply made Chinese products and should be avoided.
maybe you could put a some sort of counter weight on the back so you can leave the saw to cut through the bar from its own weight. Save you holding it for 20min. I know the larger bandsaws have a hydraulic/piston for that

This model is also available in automatic mode that allows you to walk away while the saw completes the cut and then shuts off automatically. The Femi ABS-105 has 4 settings for setting the arm force. It is available in the US from hemsaw.com or trick-tools.com but the automatic version does not stand up.
I think "Cheap metal bandsaw" is an unfair title, its a "good quality Italian made Bandsaw for a great price", thanks for the video, just purchased one there now, love the femi saws and grinders.

for cutting aluminum billet for relatively small parts,
is a horizontal band saw better or a mitre saw
for making clean cuts?
mitre saw will probably give cleaner cuts on very thin pieces, less than 5mm i reckon. For thicker billets the bandsaw will be better i think

Nice review.I got one question.What size are the wheels and leanght of blade?
Not sure about the wheels but the blades are 1335mm (52½”) x 13mm (½”)

Cutting the flat bar by hand is giving my flashbacks to when I served my time as a boatbuilder. No power tools for the first 6 months, so I had to prep stock by hand 🤮.
How are you finding the bandsaw?
Ouch! 6 months! Its been great for what I need, I manage to break the blade once but it was because I was pushing down too hard. You really want to take it slow. I love that it just sit away neatly and doesnt take up much space when im not using it.
Wow, how handy is that.......I just bought one almost identical to that one from EBAY.
I was browsing for something else and came across a cheapish bandsaw but it turned out to be A$540 with shipping etc and it was on a stand with wheels........so that put me off as the garage is getting too crowded.......then one like this bench top model appeared in the adds at the bottom and It was A$428.....my cup of tea as I can lift it outside and work on a small bench in the open then put it away on a hook in the wall or under the bench.
yep, its a great portable option for those without much space
@@ThisDesignedThat I see the blade length is stated as 1435 mm for the one I'm getting........still to arrive...... but the ones on EBAY with bimetal blades are either 1440 or 1445.....possibly the wheels can be adjusted for the longer length.
@@gangleweed on my saw you can adjust the wheel backwards and forwards to tension the blade so it might fit
@@ThisDesignedThat Yes, they all do that but it depends on the amount you can move it from the basic design for any machine.
Years ago I used to braze bandsaw blades for a work vertical bandsaw with 6mm wide blades and when one broke it was a simple job to shorten the blade and braze or silver solder a new piece in.
These blades are 13mm wide so I'll have to gen up on the possibility of buying a long length and brazing one......welding one is not an option as you need a special butt welder to do that.

I can - when it breaks, and it will, you CANNOT get spare parts in the UK. I tried ordering from Italy and got sent the wrong parts, and they refuse to accept a return. I've ended up havign to bin it.

Be warned, they are fragile - my motor gave up after a few months, only light use, and I simply cannot get spare parts. So its now a paperweight. I've been trying to get the parts for over 4 months. Femi in Italy won't talk to you as an end user, and there are very limited parts suppliers - I can only find one in the UK and they are hopeless.
Damn, that's a shame to hear. I've had it over a year now and used lightly like you and had no issues what-so-ever.

well done Sir. and agree the instructions are terrible, its straight the oposite of the chinese ones. why? the chinese have a minimalistic amount of information but the italian ones.. have a LOT of information precisely organized in a perfect mess in every language used in the world in the same page explaining the same illustration.. from all their models. or at least bunch of them, all of that at the same TIME, a real pain to read and understand.. but the saw performs amazing. well I have 2 x 748XL It can cut 0.5 mm SS 2" tube ga,18 with the right band saw using wax cutting bar, I recommend the Lenox for the band saws I think with one blade you can cut 200 tubes like I mention.
