Just a clarification Theo for future reference. I’ve heard you say “rabbit trail” a few times which is not a meaningful analogy. A “rabbit hole” is a metaphor for something that transports someone into a wonderfully (or troublingly) surreal state or situation.
All three of you have very good points to be made regarding collecting styles, grade, eye appeal and most important, collect what you like! Every collection is a reflection of the individual that has it! Keep up the great work and buy what you like, cant go wrong with that recipe
Great interview Graig!! Theo and Billy provide interesting and informative collecting tactics!! Your channel gives collectors so much diversity including interviewing other collectors, the Monday session asking collectors questions, the Wednesday podcast answering collectors questions, showing video of the card shows you attend, sharing the cards you purchased for the month, sharing cards of your listeners for the month and providing podcasts of recent topics in the card hobby!! Appreciate all you do for the card community!!
I'm confused on what to think. I've seen Mangini can afford lots of great cards. When you have to search auction sites for 1 card you want because your collection is so narrow or so complete. It just doesn't sound fun anymore. I like that I can walk into Bill's and leave with dozens of cards. When you need a big, big show to find something you want, it doesn't sound fun anymore.
Awesome conversation, guys! I got the master bathroom cleaned while listening. It felt more like hanging out with friends than cleaning the master bathroom! 😊👊
Great video guys! Always fun to hear what three of my favorite guys think about budgeting, collecting, and grading. Really enjoyed. Thanks for sharing.
“Our tech guru, Chris” made me do a spit take. Theo, I love to hear your thought process on Clemente cards/saving etc and Billy I love that you’re funding the hobby with coaching! A great convo - congrats all around!
Great discussion. When I got back into collecting in 2020, I decided to collect 70s vintage. Trying to collect every HOFer card from 1970-1980. I also try to collect 3 of each. One for the set, one raw and one graded.
Graig, such a great interview of two channels I watch all the time. Your line of questioning with ample time for great answers was much appreciated. Proof to the many ways of collecting that exist and that's ok. I wish all three of you great success with your collecting goals in 2024.
Thanks Orlando. I'd like to have you on soon. I have a guest that I think would be a great fit. I'll reach out to you later this week or next week to try and set something up.
Hey Graig, sorry. I'm just now getting to this busy weekend. It was great chatting with you, and thanks for having us on. I had a great time and I hope to do it again.
Theo - a neat collection idea centered around Clemente for you to consider. Since the Clemente award began you could get the recipient’s topps card from each year. I created a mini collection of the Cardinals’ recipients. I haven’t decided on the Clemente card to go with it, but leaning toward the 1973 or topps living.
A very fun and interesting discussion. Always a good time with Theo, and hearing his reasons for collecting and why he has a narrow approach. Where as, both you and Billy, are the complete opposite. Makes sense though. The hobby would be much more boring and dull imo if we all collected in the same way.
Hey that was very informative! I’m a 72 yo guy that still has his 61 collections and am doing all the research I can, as I’ve finally decided to sell. Will def go with the alternative to PSA
Collecting sports cards is a delicate matter. Collecting sports cards isn't just about financial value; it's often driven by emotional attachments to players, teams, or specific moments in sports history. Balancing the desire to complete a collection with budgetary constraints, or market realities can be a challenge for collectors. Sometimes I think it should be limited to a set number of cards. 280 is about the max number of cards I want to own.
I certainly get that. To be honest, that's more along the lines of where I hope my collection winds up. I don't want so many cards that I'm just storing them, I want to be sure I can enjoy them as well.
Really enjoyed the discussion guys. Loved the different perspectives from each of you and can relate to all. I probably share some of each of your collecting mind sets as far as buying goes. I am also a little jealous that Theo can stick to his focusing on pretty much one player and a great one at that. I also like Billy, love a number of players and I do it with all four major sports which makes it extremely hard....lol Love the fact Graig that like me, when a great deal pops up you jump on it as the Williams card. Great purchase my friend. How can you pass that up, really? Thanks for sharing and all great channels that I am subscribed to, keep up the great work
I get jealous at times about not being more narrowly focused, but ultimately there are so many cards that I really love, I can't stay away from buying a wider variety.
Enjoyed the video guys....I started just about two years ago downsizing my large sports card and memorabilia collection and simply concentrating on amassing a collection of Graded Hall Of Famers baseball, basketball, football and hockey! I'm finding myself becoming a Grade "snob" though because I've been selling off any and all "raw" cards I can as well as any cards I currently have Grade 5.5 or lower.Greg Morris Cards has been instrumental in helping me "auction off" these raw cards and some "Graded" cards and using those proceeds to buy cards such as a 1958 Topps Clemente PSA 6,1959 Topps Mays PSA 6 and 1976 Topps Payton PSA 8 etc. Also, have used a local card shop to trade off some vintage memorabilia plus sports card sets and pickup more Graded HOF's. It's been enjoyable and therapeutic to be able to downsize my collection to a more manageable endeavor!
Part of downsizing usually includes upgrading quality. I don't think that makes you a snob, it's just a different style of collecting from how you used to collect.
Graig, you’re killing me with that Sacramento Kings sweat shirt! My Lakers are 0-4 this year against them. Fox and Sabonis play like hall-of-famers against us every game! Geez!
I blew my budget my brother was letting go of his 85 mario lemiux rc sgc 8.5 ( looks like a 9 at least no chippeng and centered 55/45 both ways , plus a 1/1 emerald game used stick auto bgs 8.5 with a 10 auto , that one looks like a 8.5 , just remember gretsky and lemiux on the highlights
Thanks so much for having us on Graig! I’m going to hire you to be my permanent promoter! You’re my Don King of TH-cam! 😂

@@GoldenSlumber474 yes your right. On the rewatch I figured out I mispoke, thanks for letting me know!
:-) Thanks for coming on Theo. I had a lot of fun hanging out and talking cards with you.

Totally agree. Buying what you like is a great way to collect.
Great conversations! I've been to a card show with Bill and Chris, great guys!! I enjoy all four channels, keep up the great content.
They're awesome guys. I'm having a discussion with Chris this week. It should post this weekend.
Great crew! I just discovered Billy, so I'm looking forward to seeing more!
Billy is great. You'll enjoy connecting with him.
Loved this video...keep 'em coming!
I've got another one planned to post this weekend. Recording it this week.
Very good discussion guys. Billy is a top.notch collector and addition in our hobby, Theo is just ok.😁
LOL. That's funny.

Thanks Ken. That really means a lot. Thank you.
Why did this have to end. Great show kept me jamming while I was looking through my binders of glory 😍🤙🤙

Hi Graig. Great conversation with two guys I enjoy to follow and listen to. Thanks my friend.

Thanks Mook. It's so much fun to pick the brains of other collectors and come up with a few nuggets I can apply to my own strategy.
Great discussion.

Awesome. Thanks so much!! Glad you enjoyed it. We had a lot of fun.
Well, I'm almost proud to say I am already subbed to all these channels. I guess I'm going to be the wandering commentary from scenic Tennessee..
They're great guys and great channels. Don't blame you for being subbed to both of them.

Great show guys!

280? I have like 75k
I have more than 280 cards from the 50's. I consider my collection small. 280 is so low.
I certainly get that. To be honest, that's more along the lines of where I hope my collection winds up. I don't want so many cards that I'm just storing them, I want to be sure I can enjoy them as well.

Wow. Awesome card!! Congrats.
Don't forget the 1946 Propaganda Montiel Stan Musial.
It's interesting what people feel is a true rookie card. Wide releases vs smaller regional ones.
