Wow I'm so sorry that this happened to you. This video that made it really makes me think about my decision about D9. But I noticed that you have the paddle so I'm curious if you went all the way through the process meaning having a probate? Also well do you regret saying that you were interested?

Great Que's I actually ordered this paddle for an illustration of a book I was writing. But didn't finish the process no. I don't regret it because I learned so much or my growth in a sad way from it. So much life has happened for me in a positive way afterwards. Not directly because of it but my determination to live. Thank you for your support and watching. 🌹

Not to dimmish this brother's experience, but this is the problem with anecdotal evidence. For every story of hazing (which is against the official rules of every single D9 org), there is somebody who didn't go through any of that stuff. Also, hazing is not a unique problem with D9. Bands, sports teams, the military, and many other groups have problems with hazing. What he said at the end of the video is key. Don't allow stuff like hazing to happen and go unreported. The only way the "culture" of hazing gets changed is to start reporting it.

What most people don’t understand is that Satan requires a person to be humiliated to be a part of his organization. The God of the Bible requires humbleness to be a part of his family, When Christ was beaten and humiliated for us to be a part of the family of God. There is no reason for a blood-washed born-again believer to be beaten to be a part of man’s organization. Christ was publicly, beaten and humiliated, not privately done or secretly done as fraternities and sororities do, but it was done publicly!

This is good, I feel if you are honestly sharing, you may help people with having them understand their why. If that is superficial (like the examples you shared), then they open themselves up to many actions. Conversely, if their why is of substance, then they will not fall into any trap. Broadly fraternities/sororities so not condone hazing, still there are specific chapters within each organization that is problematic. So, as you are getting to know the people in the chapter, also learn about their reputation - just like you would do for a place of employment. If you learn the place is racist, you would likely have a decision to make. I enjoyed hearing about your experience, if you were to retell it, I would consider starting with what you ended with and build up to the information you led with. This would be more beneficial in informing others of the big choice they would want to make: either you take it, and then move ti make changes for future lines, or you walk away and you seek out chapters in the organization of interest who do not engage is hazing practices.

My son just crossed the burning sands for a fraternity, I choose not to name which. I am not Greek but I am a Marine Combat Vet. There very much so is hazing in the military and in the “process” of joining a fraternity. I also think that people generalize hazing to only those of a physical nature. There’s mental hazing, spiritual hazing as well as service hazing. One of the things that I’ve always stood on, even through bootcamp, you can scream and yell at me all day. But don’t put your hands on me, don’t take my kindness for a weakness and don’t treat me like I’m your errand boy. At the end of the day we are all men and women. We all put our pants on one leg at a time.

This is the old way of doing things I endured it in the band but got my degree and I joined Grad chapter. Now in this day and time each organization has an Anti hazing policy to combat that. Hazing does not happen on the grad level depending on the organization it it’s still frowned
upon my organization doesn’t do that anymore. These things happened to me in band 30 yrs ago and further back in the 90’s and 80’s. It’s been 15 yrs for him now what he is not sharing is did he get compensation for what happened to him and did the ones who did this the fraternity excommunicate their asses! Believe me only two organizations have still on going problems with this. This was mostly an under grad thing. Grad chapter is better don’t believe everything he says that’s his experience and I’m sorry that happened to him but if he didn’t report it when it first started that’s on him.
