I really liked the graphics style and the music (e.g Pirate base, early kingdom) of the game. As I completed the game 100% with all achievements, I think the fast paced fights and movement were just awesome because I didn't have to wait for so many screens to load. I'd say 9/10.

Nice video! Now I have another game on my wishlist, especially since I like JRPGs

Thanks for the feedback, it's really worth it for fans of JRPGs. It just feels like one of the few JRPGs that knocks off some of the rust, you know?

Do you recommend the first game as well?
I've been on the fence with this franchise. Green Man Gaming has both games for 83% off. You've sold me on trying Ni No Kuni 2 based on this video but now I'm curious if the original is also worth it. I can only assume I should play the first one first.
When I've looked online for reviews on this series I feel like all I get are mega fans...since its a bit more of a niche title. These kinds of videos are nice to see but they don't give a great understanding of what the normal person might think of the game without nostalgia goggles or anything.

I played the first game many years ago, so it's been a while. I'm probably a little sour on the first game, because there's a point where the story feels like it's come to a natural conclusion and then the game decides it's the half way point and just kept going.
The first game felt too much like a typical RPG with very firmly separated sections, where Ni No Kuni 2 had a more fluid battle system, and a few side pieces (the kingdom building) that felt fresh. But they also are heavily disconnected games. There are references but you can play either one with out having to play the other.
I personally love NNK2, but am merely ok with NNK1. Though a lot of people seem to disagree with me on this, so I don't know. I once saw someone sum it up perfectly. Ni No Kuni will appeal to Traditional RPG fans far more, or people who want a pokemon type game (Where you capture monsters and raise them). Where Ni No Kuni 2 is far more Western, but it also lacks the pokemon style and adds in more complications outsides of the typical gameplay loop.
If you want a JRPG, try NNK1, if you want something different, play NNK2.

@@Kinglink I appreciate the helpful response. I'll add NNK2 to my backlog and maybe consider the first game in time.
I did notice that the masses tend to consider NNK1 as the superior entry...but I've yet to find a monster capture based RPG that I really loved. I can take or leave a Pokemon game and I really didn't enjoy Tales of Symponia Dawn of the New World at all...so those two experiences have kept me away from trying more of those JRPGs.

Love your content mate, keep up that shit. Though I feel like you should work on the timing of your writing a bit, it all feels a bit all over the place

Thanks for the feedback, I am working on it, this one was a lot of content, but I kind of had to keep returning to topics after exploring others.
I am aware though and I'll keep the effort up.
