- Did you know that staff at North York General Hospital are cleaning, sterilizing and readying surgical equipment 24 hours a day, seven days a week? Take a look behind the scenes to see the process and safety measures in place that helps ensure our patients receive safe, high-quality care.
The instruments are not sterile after the wash, that wash is just to remove all debris from the instruments, they are sterilized in the autoclave while packed.
Love the floor loading sterilizers wish we had them!!
1:47 all the instruments are in the closed position. Which means they weren’t probably cleaned in the washers and if they remained closed they won’t be properly sterilized in the autoclaves
Yet they are sterile
I always wear gloves even on the “clean” side and I double up in Decon and wear boot covers . Bioburden can be super harmful
Same! The clean side really isn’t all that clean! I’ll wipe down my station everyday and the wipe will be brown 🤢
but dirty water can still get inside the gloves how do tall avoid getting infected when manual washing in the sink
@@newnew4142 go to your Or supply core and get some surgical 3 m tape it’s clear and tape your first layer to your gown. Surgeon trick
Bioburden
I lesrned how to ride my GSX-R750 just watching TH-cam videos! I remember my first time riding! It was anxiety mind blowing calming to my reality! I knew i could do it and learn just w TH-cam. This is almost the like my bike but I reading all of my material and writing so many note! Thanks for the video great run down
The person sterilising, concern about long sleeves, and trays should not be touching before or after
What city is this? I wish we had some supplies and machines you have...lol. It's always amazing to see and up to date spd department... I'm loving the prefolded blue wraps...
North York General Hospital in Toronto, Ontario, Canada.
Can somebody tell me how long does the instruments last before they are replaced for a medium size hospital
It depends rust can form sometimes after 3 uses . Most hospitals have on or off site instrument repair services . Usually the or will tag instruments and in decon you put a repair or sharpen tag on instrument or instruments
What is the name of the solution used to clean surgical instruments
Are you really allowed to have a watch on? We are not.
How are you jenny
That’s scary, no gloves used and her watch is already contaminated
I agree about the watch. But the fact that she is not wearing gloves is correct. The instruments are clean and so are her hands.
You tagged the wrong person.
at 2:09, i dont understand why she is not wearing sterile gloves or something, as how can that machine sterilize all the instruments when its wrapped in that blue wrapping?
The wrapper is pours so that the steam can penetrate it, that is also why the metal containors have holes in them with filters.
@@deannalynn858 thank you DLynn! You know I was thinking the same same. I'm barely starting my journey into this career field and I was like why why why?!!! That makes sense perfect.
Because the machine was designed to do that
Very informative!
Thank you for video!
how do I contact these companies in Perth Western Australia,to provide a alternative to cleaning the trollies and associated components
This job looks like it has a high chance that you'll catch an infection if you get cut by those equipments
Question: why is the inspection of the instruments on top of the wrapper what if the bone or bio burden went down on the wrapper, the bottom was not inspected and it seems like.
Do this job and really enjoy it. Plan to get certified eventually (work in a state it’s not required)
After watching this video I have a doubt. Don't you need gloves between the washing and sterilization procedure. she was placing the instruments in bins with out gloves.
@@You_Name_It In my experience, none of them wear gloves, besides the people on the dirty side. On the clean side, you "assume" everyone is clean. I don't work in SPD or anything, but I do repair the surgical instruments. Been all over the country doing it and no one has ever worn gloves on the clean side.
They probably have the surg tech clean them again before surgery.
Fairly obvious that they would be cleaned again
@@missb6064 Correct. They are sterilized after decontam and rebuilding.
@@CrazyGunNoob are you certified?
How much do these people make?
Why no one wearing gloves
Has anyone worked for mayo clinic before or does anyone know someone who has? I would like to know their experience there. Thank you
The clinicians aren't wearing gloves☝️
Not good...
Against OSHA regulations
How can I get this type of job please ? is this job daily for operation nurse or for any one?
Sterile processing technicians do this job and they take care of and store things that need to be 100% sterile before usage. I guess you educate yourself to become a sterile processing technichian and try to get a foot in to the game when a job is available.
0:32 is she washing the water?? OMG LOL 🤣🤣
0:48 nested basins = dirty basins haha
1:41 ok, so all the ringed instruments came through the wash closed ...WOW
I feel like Fred Rogers should have showed us this back in the 70's
Why?
How are you lana
Should be put in UltraSonic before washer.
Best to make sure instruments are sterile for the next surgery !!
2:30 should he /she really be touching the items with hands ??? They aren’t sterile much and I think it would be better if they wore gloves ????
At that point the instruments aren't sterile
thats great to know.
Shouldn't you be wearing gloves at 1:45 mins in the video?
Its Not Necessary
No. The instruments are clean and so should your hands be.
They have been washed clean but not sterilized yet, so it’s fine to not wear gloves but you do want your hands clean
So many mistakes.
Tough job
No gloves? I think we found the source of hospital-based staff infections. (Don’t correct my spelling. I know what I wrote).
They haven’t been sterilized yet.
Is this steris in chester NY?
The wrapping was wrong no flap for the OR to pull to open plus i seen over lapping sterile tape on the wrap.
And no ci
I work in the dental field, we have to wear gloves, why are these people touching instruments without any gloves ? It’s very unsettling to know this happens in a hospital setting.
Because they haven't been sterilized yet.
Yes, they haven't been sterilized yet.
Not sterilized yet, plus the first thing you do when you enter the SPD department is scrub your hands and dry them. The SPD is a Restricted area of the hospital, meaning you must change in to hospital scrubs and wear a head/hair cover and shoe covers to enter to minimize outside contaminants being carried in to the department.
Well
