And last do you have any tips or advice for me? I'm just starting school in California in August ..thank you in advance and congrats again😊🍾👏🏻👍🏻

    I'm an RN with 24 years experience and I work for a trauma level 1 hospital here in southern California. 3 months ago I took a supervisory position in Central Processing Service. My only experience dealing with central service before I took this position was picking up and returning supplies/equipment / instruments to this department. I was overwhelm with the amount of information I needed to learn to be able to perform my job expectations. Fortunately, with my nursing background I was able to grasp the principles and concept fairly well. Additionally, while searching to broaden my knowledge, I came across these wonderful, informative and easy to understand lectures from Steve. Thank you Steve for doing what you do. You are so gifted in sharing your wealth of knowledge and experience to us. You are such a wonderful teacher!!! I wish you can be cloned so that more can benefit to what you do. Can you recommend any textbook that I can use as a reference material? Again thank you for being an awesome educator.

    Just got declined for a SPT job. I’m confused as to why? Maybe someone else can point it out?
    I have a HS diploma, 10 years (cleaning/sanitation/OSHA training) in a healthcare setting, two employee of the year awards, employee of the month awards, monthly online in servicing, will obtain both certs once hired (bc it’s a hands on/on the job certification training?), and all other required experiences met. While watching many other TH-cam videos on the job title, many comments said they had zero experience and were hired. Just was told today that I wasn’t qualified!? I was really looking forward to working as this! I am really sad they passed me up, I work really hard and need a new career. ☹️. I told my family I was really looking forward to working as this position and praying for it. Someone tell me what I need to do so I can pursue it, please. 🙏🏻😞
    Do I have to take the training *beforehand*?

    • @BostonCareerInstitute

      First things first, analyze the questions you were asked and how you answered them. You were invited to the interview based on your resume, so the employer was aware of your credentials. It must have been something in your presentation that they didn't find to be a good fit for them.
      Don't despair, learn from your experience and reapply elsewhere. Naturally, certification is a plus but it is not yet nationally required. Keep at it and you will succeed.

    Oh, lord. He manages to get a few things right, but ...
    Water is not a "wetting agent". A wetting agent is something that is added to a liquid to reduce its surface tension, which helps it to penetrate and spread. Detergents used for cleaning are usually very good wetting agents. Water in cleaning is a combination of a solvent and a means of applying mechanical force to dislodge and carry away gunk.
    A conductivity meter only responds to ionic solutes, not non-ionic solutes. A so-called total dissolved solids (TDS) meter is a reasonable way of testing water from a still or reverse osmosis system, since such water will have very low levels of non-ionic solutes.
    Amylase digests starches, not simpler carbohydrates. Simpler carbohydrates are water soluble, so there is no need to digest them to facilitate removal. Lipases aren't really very useful in instrument cleaning - detergents do a better job, in general. Proteases are useful, since protein deposits on instruments can be very difficult to remove. Most instrument detergents with enzymes added contain only proteases.
    Not all bacteria are motile and not all of those that are motile move by means of flagella.
    The amount of visible light in the decontamination area isn't going to have much effect on survival of microorganisms. The bright light is necessary so people can see what they are doing in the manual processes. The sorter wavelengths (ultraviolet) that are microbiocidal are also hazardous to humans.

    • @BostonCareerInstitute
      @BostonCareerInstitute  7 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      Poole Galloway are you certified? if yes, then you should know that Everything and I mean Everything I say is on the board exam. if you are not certified, then watch my videos, take careful notes and read the book to pass the test. I strongly disagree with you about the monkey thing. 250000 people a year die from hospital infection partly because ....... fill in the blank.

    • @MrPoolegway99
      @MrPoolegway99 7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      +Boston Career Institute (BCI Inc.) - Brookline Yes I am certified and I agree with you about the board questions. However, unless these people in the video were going to take the exam the following week, all that info was really unnecessary. Lastly, I agree that many infections are caused in hospitals each year, but this is mainly due to laziness and improper cleaning. But anyone that can identify instruments and wash dishes can master this job in a month. Great information, but let's not pretend this job requires a Doctoral degree.

    • @BostonCareerInstitute
      @BostonCareerInstitute  7 ปีที่แล้ว +9

      silky slim23 not pretending it requires a doctoral degree at all. the job does require a solid baseline knowledge of science in order to NOT be considered a trained ape washing dishes. indeed all people in that video were slated to take the board exam and that is exactly what the videos are for. lastly, there's nothing like pride in what you do. pride comes from a sense of accomplishment and belonging. National certification is key, knowledge is key, being able to answer questions and challenges from other healthcare professionals is also key. This is the only way to make people understand that this is not washing dishes and why laziness has no place in CPD, people's lives depend on it. It is a key to better pay as well. You should use your knowledge and certification and be a mentor to others. be proud of what you do!
