that is half a Million people. not to see a song and dance. they all came to hear a man's voice. no light show, no fake echo added to the mic, just the man and his voice. that is incredible. he could literally pull in bigger audiences than most of the performers of the day.
Fantastic concert, people brought picnics, ice buckets with wine and candelabras...it was all great fun and then the sun went down and he began to sing....pure magic! I’ll never forget it.
As a young man, Pavarotti developed a nodule on his vocal cord. He nearly gave up singing. Then, miraculously, the nodule disappeared and left him with his amazing voice. He saw this as a sign from God. And it was. God blessed the world with Luciano Pavarotti.
I have never ever heard anything as absolutely beautiful, as powerful, as intense as Pavaroti singing this song - TEARS to my eyes every time. What a wonderful gift to the world God gave in this mans voice.
My grandma was a nepoth of gioacchino Rossini and im an ancient parent of pope Leone XII but I’m proud to be Emiliano-Romagnolo for Pavarotti and Laura Pausini ❤️
I had just come back from a vacation in Europe and didn't know Pavarotti was performing in the Park that night. What an incredible moment hearing that voice as I walked by Central Park. It was a beautiful, June night and the sound attracted me like a magnet. It was thrilling to hear.
Pavarotti, unbelievable and I remember this Central Park concert so well. Was he ever disappointing? But, this particular evening I thought his voice was carried by angels. So full, so much milk and honey in that unique tone. When he starts 'Dilegua notte, tramontata stelle' it is just sublime. Nobody like him. Never will be. Bless you Maestro. 💜👌💛
it takes a great man to make opera popular and have them screaming at the end of of Nessun Dorma But then again - Pavarotti was the greatest of all time! He trascended his genre.
Central Park extends all the way from 59th Street to about 110th Street and from the West Side to the East Side so I don't think it would be difficult to fit 500,000 people into it. I attended that concert and it was packed. What a magical night it was! I wouldn't have missed it for anything.

I have heard this so many times, what gets me is the voice of course. The voice. It is a gift to us from God. Pavarotti knew this I believe. Yet, it is also the conductors in each rendition. The conductors right beside Pavarotti and the look on their faces as they cannot help but look at Pavarotti. It is such awe on their faces. They were privileged to conduct as Pavarotti sang. The conductors reaction to Pavarotti is all of our reactions.

Why do I cry whenever I hear this man sing this amazing piece?
Because there are no other alternatives available.
