12:16 I can totally see how the ones making the e-kit has a meeting and were like "SO! What songs shall we add to this drum module" and then they agreed to this
Drum module makers should save the space of 3858382 tracks and 1024 drum kits, and instead make 5 properly sampled and layered acoustic drums, 2 latin and samba voices and 2 or 3 for "808"/beat making. Kinda what Yamaha did, but with more velocities. Done. No need of "giantbottle2" (lol) voicekit, for example.
the music got knocked out of tune because the previous one had pitch bends and for some reason in midi players pitch bend CC is eternally persistent. turning it on and off should probably fix it
my favorite use for one of those might be what 66Samus did, combining the two together with a huge trigger interface and turning it into a huge stadium sized electronic drum kit
Ive repaired yamaha, roland, ddrum, behringer and alesis electronic kits , and to me, the weird drum kits patches are always gold, especially if they are a decade old, and you cant even remember what genre that kits supposed to be! The old Yamaha dtx 's had some killer kits
Almost sounds like the module is not properly resetting the MIDI sampler state between songs, causing pitch bends to remain at their last commanded values until forcibly reset by the next song? Pure speculation of course, but that’s my guess.
@ Heh - blind faith is extremely bad practice, especially with all the garbage on the Internet. Trust, but verify. Think about the pitch-bend wheel on a synth, or bending a guitar string. With few exceptions, these are spring-loaded: they have 0 pitch bend until you tell them to, and they return to 0 when you let go. A General MIDI synth doesn’t care about that - it does exactly what you command, and only that. Thus, if you forget to set the pitch bend back to 0 when you’re done…it’ll stay at whatever wacky value you set it to.
Just ordered the 500. Played drums a bit and want to get into it more. This will be a huge upgrade from my 20 year old yamaha 8pc kit lol. Thanks for the review.
Great vid! Never understood why e kits have so many kits that you would probably never use. Would much rather they model the sounds after drummers IRL kits
@@jeffreblanco9552 - Aside from hobbyists in their bedrooms, no drummer would use these sounds live. In fact, there are 3 main groups of people who play e-kits in general. The first group uses them as a replacement for acoustic drums because of noise and/or space issues but if given a choice, this group would not play e-kits -- so the sounds they desire are as close to acoustic drums as possible not only in terms of samples but also velocity layers. The second group of people are e-kit players by choice and they generally consider electronic drums as a different animal than acoustic drums much in the same way an acoustic pianist and electronic keyboardist view their respective mediums. They go for the eclectic sound pallet and sound-shaping capabilities to enhance the music they play along to. The last group of people who play e-kits do it because they're not very proficient drummers and think they sound better on an e-kit because the plastic and mesh heads require less control and offer more rebounds. With that out of the way - the first two groups would never use one of these Donner kits in a professional settings as the sounds are garbage. To be sure, the performing drummer would import and shape her/his sounds via an external laptop or a brain capable of facilitating this such as 2Box, or a modded high-end Roland or Yamaha.
What is this? 😂😅😂😂😂😂😂😂😂 I don't know but the more I listen to it after I stop laughing, the more I kinda dig it. It's like a challenge to see if you can actually play to it.
Very cool. I just bought the DED-500 Pro, with acoustic style hat. Glad I did or I woulda missed this. For a start, the presentation was awesome. You got a good style. Very honest and kept me engaged 100. But thank you for the time you took with the unpacking and what to expect when I get mine. Am really impressed with the drum shells. They definitely give the kit a sense of intended quality. I was however a little put off by the frame (structurally). Have had a couple other electric kits and both had a lower horizontal in the main front frame. But like you seemed, minor flaw considering. Gives me an excuse to make some nice timber corner pieces to give stability strength. Great share. Thank you.
I didn’t have a good experience with donner kit. The triggers weren’t working correctly for several drums and my module seemed to not fully work right. I know I went over everything to make sure it wasn’t my error but nothing worked the way it shouldve. EDIT: the kit seemed solid, I’m not crapping on them. Just my kit seemed off. If you buy this kit just try and keep in touch with the company just in case
can I suggest you look at (i think) the Mellenium PDS-1000, its a 1000 dollar(ish) acoustic like electronic drum set, and isnt to bad i think. And nobody seems to talk about it
I wonder if the tempo on the songs was slower than intended if you can change that on the module. I’m shocked they would produce something like that lol
Medeli, Aleshits, Pearl (plastic e-Merge) and now Donner.. same stuff. Even the drum key! Good kit for the price IMO. This module reminds me of an Aleshits DM10 original version.
I have several those keys they are amazing also come with simmons and alesis kits but i buy mine from amazon but listed to be generic brands but i buy them in 5 packs. If you use bolt cutters to cut the end off the handle it makes great drill bit key. The keys work great all around amazing keys. Sorry i nerded out on keys.😂
Oh my god, that was soooo funny !!!!!! I seriously was laughing out loud. Hahahahahahaha I thought you were punking us at first. But.....wow !!!!! That's worse then the ones that come on the Roland kits !!!!! Haaaaaaa But damn that was hilarious dude !!!!! Nice playing too ! 😁👍
Not gonna lie, I'm quite disappointed. I use the Roland TD-07KV and I'm just loving it. Really the thing that sets it apart from this kit is just the samples. Roland has some great sample packs even on their more budget oriented kits, that you can tell were legitimately sampled from proper live drum kits. Though this e-kit looks about as promising visually (has a semi-proper rack, mesh heads, decent kick pad, rims with triggers, wrap, etc.) the samples and the songs it include just make it seem like a toy more than anything else.
I agree. There's just not point in using these cheap modules. This kit is worth it for the pad sizes but the module is absolutely terrible. It's unusable for recording purposes. I have a Roland Td07 too and the sound quality is night and day. If you use a VST exclusively, this would be the only reason to use the Donner kits.
E kit hi hats have responsive problems but the one that Stephen did on his channel was by far the most responsive hi hat with dual trigger zones nevertheless great vid!
Stephen Taylor I assume ? The best Hi-hats I've ever played. They were the Roland Digital Hi-hat, sell's for $1000+ and works only with Rolands TD-27 or TD-50. Haven't tried the DW-e or EFnote's high-end hi-hat (Triple Zone, with bell ! ). I'm guessing these new Hi-hats are even better. I really don't need them as a hybrid drummer. Good thing, since they are super expensive ! 😀
Your reaction the to the out of tune tracks was extra funny to me, because ive just been spending the last 2 hours listening to Cardiacs. Theyre a great band if you're into weird sounds & time signatures
Solid video! They sent me the 200 Max and I was really suprised at the bang for your buck with that one. Hope to check out the 500 soon! Looks like a nice upgrade 👌🏻
Loved the video I’m a big fan I was wondering if you can you review the Alesis nitro mesh kit with the double floor Tom and extra crash I was planning to ask for it for Christmas as my first drum set but I wanna see how it is in a drummers eyes?
Ngl, the more you listen to that last track the more 🔥🔥🔥it is 😂
hi david, i may get this kit, does anyone else have any other recommendations for a good ekit?
or more likely, it sets my ears on fire
The first track was actually pretty chill
yamaha dtx 402

12:16 I can totally see how the ones making the e-kit has a meeting and were like "SO! What songs shall we add to this drum module"
and then they agreed to this
I can also think of the opposite
"What tracks should we put on it?
"Oh no one plays to those just do whatever"
"...you sure?"
@@TheSalPic Very much a possibility haha, one thing is for sure though: the one adding the tracks had a laugh while adding them.
@@TheSalPichaha
You laughing at those built in songs made my day David.
Hysterical - something went vastly awry!
It’s not out of tune, it’s JAZZ!
Thanks for making me spit coffee on my phone. 😂😂😂

Would love to hear this on a Drum VST, It can give us an idea how well it triggers midi notes.
66Samus has a few videos about these.

There are also those who like playing EDM and electronica sounds with their drums. Like me, for one. Not everyone wants an all-acoustic drum kits. 🙄

That lick at 12:43 actually goes hard
13:19 perfect transition / perfect music
Those songs are like walking into a bar and the band is drunk.... but watching David crack up over them was the highlight of my day 😂😂😂
I'd really like to see the DED-500 controlling a VST, like BFD3 or MODO Drums. I realize that's not really your thing though.
What is this? 😂😅😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
I don't know but the more I listen to it after I stop laughing, the more I kinda dig it. It's like a challenge to see if you can actually play to it.
that drum kit is better than my $1000 Roland Kit that I bought back in 2012.

That “Bouncin-1” kit straight up sounded like a beastie boys drum loop

Bravo on the editing! I can tell you had fun with this video lol
Ngl those 'songs' on the kit had me dying
I just bought the NUX DM-7. a few people told me to stay away from the donner. Let me tell you, the NUX sounds great!
You are a really good drummer man
Sounds like an 80’s Casio keyboard. Do these sounds actually inspire people to play?
“Thunderous Drum” makes sense since “Donner” means “thunder” in German. 👍🏼
the 4 arm thing is a really funny editing trick haha i love that
Those built-in songs. Wow. All of a sudden that first one doesn’t seem so bad!!!!
Bouncin'1 at 7:25 made me challenge my dog to an impromptu Krump battle. You cant be doing that to me man!😂
Commissioning The Residents to program the play-alongs was genius.
I always thought the Alesis electric kits were pretty good sound wise, but they are a bit more.
Those built in songs were some seriously advanced jazz
Thanks mate needed a good laugh. Hope to try out a e kit one day.
holy sht those backing tracks left me in tears

I’m curious if these have midi out. Cause I would only realistically ever use one of these to record drums and use my own samples.
I'd love to see you check out Millenium e-kits, with testing them with VST.

Those sample songs sound like music class but when everyone is waiting for the teacher and playing whatever they want.
Garbage drums, GOLDEN laughs!!
You give the best demonstration one can find!! 💯

Duuuude! Those songs are FIRE!!!
I’ve gotta say, the last track made be almost crap myself. I was laughing so hard😂😂😂
When he said, "Yeah, not really feelin' that one." It turns out those two were the best...
I would like to know how the hihat pedal control is on these kits. Is it just open/close, or is there a continuous range in between?
At this price, there's not gonna be an in-between.
Loved the video I’m a big fan I was wondering if you can you review the Alesis nitro mesh kit with the double floor Tom and extra crash I was planning to ask for it for Christmas as my first drum set but I wanna see how it is in a drummers eyes?
The electron 7 samples sounded like the tones used for the beginning of "Oh Yeah" (Ferris Bueller)!
11:15 That’s “After The Fall" by Incognito. Great band. Intrigued as to what their song is doing in that drum kit?!
Loved the peel! 😄
I’m considering purchasing this kit. Can you play the hi hat partially open, as well as open and closed?
THE SONGS!!! Oh that's the best laugh I've had all month!!
So much sound effect in this videos, it's hilarious
You had me laughing so hard I was crying at those “songs”!!😂😂😂
Can the 200 or 200 Max be daisy chained to the 500 if you wanted to blend the two kits?
can u do a tour of all your drum sets
