If you remember Sombra in season three, his voice sounded like a demon ghost for a reason. Because he seemed like a ghost with all that smoke surrounding him. His actual voice is the one speaking in this episode. I know it was kinda a let down, but the voice kinda suits his bratty rich high schooler self well!
Regarding Discord faking being injured, watching the episode, yeah, it was pretty obvious. But back when the trailer was all we had and they just used the audio of his speech, it did genuinely sound like he was dying or completely powerless as he was saying it. And I love Tirek, Cozy and Queen Cheese Legs' fear when confirming they had no problems with Grogar's plan. The fear in Cheese Legs' voice as she quickly says "nope" in answer to Grogar's question is just so satisfying for me.

Know why he is the way he is an why he wants power. His voice should be like that of a Gould System lord, deep and powerful, as if possessed by a demon. He could have had the intimidation of TFP Megatron and the powers of the Demon Shredder. Instead he was comically underwhelming. Sure he had good bits like taking the baby and destroying the Elements. But he could have been so much more. An ultimate goal beyond taking control of Equestria. King Sombra who was fully resurrected, not the ghost equivalent of Ganon in BOTW, fully resurrected could have been the Sauron of MLP.
One thing to point out as soon as *"Protectors of Equestria"* was mentioned. Lots of alarm bells were raised to everyone who has ever read up on medieval history cough cough Oliver Cromwell cough cough.
