I've watched a ton of your videos and this is by far, my favorite. Gives me hope that there are gems still out there waiting to be discovered. Great stories!
My best wasn't exactly a yard sale, but a craigslist ad. The Beatles collection stereo box (blue box) set AND The Beatles Collection US Mono box set (black box) for $400. Near mint on all.
I just went to an estate sale because they had some vintage science fiction books I was interested in. No mention of records in the sale description but I notice some piled in the floor of the hallway linen closet. Most were typical dollar bin finds, but I randomly found Hank Mobley’s Dippin’ and a Bill Evans record as well, both in pristine condition. Was a good day🤘🏼. I felt super fortunate to be in the right place at the right time.
When I was 15 and had just started collecting I paid $2 for a box of old records at a yard sale. I was so new to vinyl that it took me a couple of years to realize that the funky-looking album with the banana on it was actually an original mono, east coast pressing LP from The Velvet Underground & Nico (V-5008) with the Emerson "torso" back cover.
That Zep Rubber Dubber is a great find. Not only is it a very cool Zep piece, but it's an excellent relic of the era, the industry and history of music copyright law. When Rubber Dubber and TMoQ were at their best, there was some good stuff being released. If you haven't read it already, get the book "Bootleg - The Secret History of the Other Recording Industry" by Clinton Heylin . It's a fascinating read with lots of history. Rubber Dubber was the son of a Dallas in the business of organized crime. Not interested in continuing in the family's line of business, he ventured out on his own. His unique niche was that he owned his own pressing plant and many of his better recordings were made my smuggling in wireless microphones with tiny FM units that sent the signal to a van parked nearby the venue where the tape machine was rolling. I've always thought this story would make a good movie.
Not really a garage sale but a number of years ago we had to go clear my grandparents house out in England. We went through a trunk and found a small stack of records. One of them was a first pressing of please please me by the Beatles. What was interesting was it was pressed in Southern Rhodesia
At Rocket Records... in Tacoma on 6th Ave.... I bought the original "Sound of Music", for 25 cents ! Had to add some more records so he wouldn't notice... (all 25 cents), but this was released in 1965 ! Original booklet with no creases. And pristine vinyl. Is worth hundreds now. Ain't sellin' it. ;-)
Man.. I used to do this when I was younger with my sisters and some of my prized possessions were found there. I need to go back and start again. Thanks Dylan!
With Sabbath Vol 4 the rare U.K. pressing is the slightly later spaceship label. That’s the one that is hard to find. Also with the self titled debut the very first pressings mention something about Philips at the bottom of the label, think it says “A Philips Product” or something like that as Vertigo was originally a sub label of Philips.
I had a Stooges funhouse OG , I had gotten it at a dig and found it for 2$ ,and about a year later i was selling some records and I turned away to attend to one of my kids and the guy slipped it into his pile and swiped it. That was a major loss,he also got my Black sabbath first press
I’m new to vinyl. About 2 months ago I went to my first garage sale looking for albums. I was digging thru piles of nasty, moldy late ‘70’s, 80’s and 80’s Hair Bands. There was some decent stuff in there, but everything was in terrible shape. The very last album I flipped to was Aretha “I Never Loved A Man...”. I thought, “wow, this is out of place”. The cover was not that bad, just a split seam. I pulled the record out to look at and I thought, “This can’t be right”. 25 cents later and she was in the car with me. Got it home and on my table, and Oh Man! It’s pristine! I don’t know how records are graded, but this has to be Near Mint to Mint. I don’t know if this is a fairly common album to find (again, new to this) but when it’s your first one...!

I must thank you Dylan for recommending the debut of Emmitt Rhodes. I was captivated by the sweet melodies and magical harmonies! It reminded me of a Beatles record I never heard.
3 of my best vinyl finds ever were, Taste first album , and Blaxk sabbath masters of reality got both for 1 euro. then i got Elvis first album 1956 album i payed 20 for that, amazing buzz and finds. that funkadelic one was some find..
I found an original copy of Nick Drake's "Bryter Layter" in a box of vinyl at the flea market about 10 years ago. I'd vaguely heard of him and when I got home and researched it on discogs, I got a pleasant surprise.
Ha! Wanna go to yard sales together! I need your luck! Geez man! I wonder if that paranoid is the first press unlaminated cover with the big bear credits
Yep, I"m a Funkateer , I've walked down OG's of most of the collective's catalogue's classic abums I hadn't purchased in real time...I'm on the hunt for an OG Maggot Brain for a reasonable price.....and Gloryhallastoopid.....
My jealousy is off the scales! Don’t let anybody call you a snake for building your collection with thrift. You didn’t hold a gun to anybody’s head, and I know you paid people what they asked for them or negotiated fairly. Keep the content coming!
Fun video! I liked the Zombies O & O story best -- maybe because I looked for it too, for a couple of years. Then I found a decent copy at Lunchbox in Charlotte for $20. Great scores on the four original Sabbath records and the Led Zep II RL mix too.
The Zeppelin and Sabbath finds are absolutely stellar! Something tells me that the RL LZII can circulate easily but the prices are where they have to be since it is a rarity of sorts.
Do you have the album 801 live? And quatermass, two complete gems.. (Farm 1971) goes for crazy price... And another Pantera Power Metal very hard to find
Great videos, Dillon. Glad I watched this one. A day later, I came across two original Canadian 1st pressings of Blonde On Blonde at an auction, one stereo and one mono. I scooped them both up. Thanks for the tip!
17:46 i'm all new to collecting so I was wondering what is so special about the vertigo pressings and why are those much more valuable then other pressings of the same record?
Pretty crazy finds man. To be honest with you in 15 years of collecting (and even having worked at a record store 8 years ago) I've never given much thought to hitting up yard/garage sales. That said I have scored some majorly undervalued stuff at stores though. The only time I really scored outside a store was guy who had asked me to look through and kinda appraise his collection. When I was done I noticed he had a British mono copy of Beggars Banquet and a US original of LZ I both in NM shape. He didn't think much of 'em but I didn't really wanna rip the guy off so I gave him $50 for about $400 worth of records. He thought mono presses were worthless and that I was insane to even offer $50 so everyone left happy ha ha. Also, when I did work at a record store I passed up an original of Odyssey an Oracle for $20 because I didn't know what it was. Have regretted that day ever since loll... But for $4?? Man that's a sick find! I'm from Texas, but it sounds like I need to make a trip over to Charlotte!
You just popped up so I had to check it out - of course the info you provide is amazing, so interesting - but what has got me hooked is that you are a great story teller and your passion and excitement comes through loud and clear - really enjoy listening to you - now you have me hyped up on vinyl again - started buying records every week with my allowance at the local drug store in the mid 1960’s - thank you!
And to add to the topic my best garage sale find is a MU self titled album 1971 release, near mint and they sale for 500 dollars right now , I wouldn’t sell that one because is so rare very few people know it but more than 400 people on Discogs want it
I bought a first pressing uk release gatefold vertigo with swirl Black sabbath paranoid for 20$ at a thrift store. People are selling it from 300-500$ online. I also found recently a old megadeth first album on a thrift store for 5$.
The very first pressings of PARANOID have the Jim Simpson/big bear management credit listed inside the gatefold. This was removed very shortly after release as he was sacked! So something to look out for as these early ones are sought after.
Okay, so as you mentioned the Blonde On Blonde first pressing, and its original gatefold print before it was changed, I went to make sure if my copy had the same, and I'm very happy to say that the same lady is on mine! And my copy is Stereo! I found it in Nashville for 5 bucks!!
I also found an OG Neil Young/Pearl Jam Mirrorball in perfect condition in a pile of records just brought in on a counter once. They hadn't even priced up. I asked Brian behind the counter 'How much?' He looked at it said 'don't know that record. £8? Needless to say I snapped it up.
I've never found any real collectible vinyl at yard/garage sales. Not even a quarter of the cool stuff you've found. I have found some nice cd's before though. I have found some good vinyl at thrift stores a number of times.
Last records I found at a gsale were $1 and out in the hot sun. I got aced out of records at Goodwill today. People were waiting for bins to be replaced and due to social D, 1 person per bin so I couldn't look. They wheeled the records away and brought out none.
I've been collecting Rap albums and notice ones made between 1995 - 2010 are worth a lot.. pretty much when CDs were popular.. Do you collect Hip-Hop albums?? I don't see you talk about them much.. A Hip-Hop video would be awesome!!
Oh man. Those Vertigos (swoon) Scoring at yard sales and Goodwill is the absolute best feeling in record collecting, in my opinion. Catching flea market gougers slipping is also near the top. Cheers, homie
Been yardsailin for over 20 years. Vinyl is always at the top of my list. My biggest score came from buying a box of records that at first I didn't even want. It was the last house on a block of sales and they said nobody wanted them and I could have them all for $3. I saw Dean Martin and Mantovanni records and thought junk, but when I got home and dug through the records out pops Please, Please, Please....with the BANNED cover! And this puppy is in MINT condition both record and jacket! The people who bought it probably had no idea who James Brown was, played it once and put it away. It didn't fit in with the rest of the records I figured pro-rated, I payed about .08 cents for it. Any idea how much it's worth today?
Found a copy of the 'model' first pressing of Blond on Blond at a store two days ago for $8. Opened it up and wondered who the girl was...figured Bob had good taste in women. Then I saw your video! Thanks for the tips, stories and education, Man!
Back in February I found a first press mono copy of "The Sidewinder" at Half Price Books for $14.99. Not a dollar find, but still really underpriced, as you know. About a year ago I found a Robert Ludwig Led Zep II at HPB for $5.99. Condition wasn't amazing, I graded it as Very Good, but copies in only Fair condition sell on Discogs for $25, so it was still really cheap. As a huge Led Zeppelin fan that one's staying in my collection.
My best two yard sale scores. The Jayhawks "Tomorrow the Green Grass" and Soundgarden "Badmotorfinger" on orange vinyl. Paid 2 bucks for both. The guy used to be a radio DJ and was selling records given to the station. Crazy! Dillon, I'm still willing to trade for the right record. One of these days!
Couple of mine: 1st US pressing Ziggy Stardust, looked unplayed... $2. Bob Dylan Great White Wonder, no markings whatsoever so I think it’s first run... $0. Both the guy and I had no idea what it was... until I got it home ;)

I like all of your videos and I learn so much from your expertise , and even as I could brag about some of my great finds , I was interested to know if you would buy a TOOl Lateralus bootleg double album , I was gonna sell originally on eBay but I got scared when I checked their policies , or if someone is interested let me know , is in great condition and looks professional
Oh yeah blonde on blonde mono is very cool. My 1st mono copy is about vg condition which is decent but I would like a upgrade. I got it pretty cheap from my local shop in Buffalo.
Interesting video, nice finds! I generally agree to the price and if I know that I’m getting a steal will actually pay them more than what we agree to (not retail, but something extra).
Hi Dillon, Great subject matter. I found a Phish album "The Story of the Ghost" in brand new condition for a buck at a yard sale. Got there about a half hour after it started and they were still setting up. The wife sold it, the husband was hesitant. I left before he wanted it back! Take care.
Thank you so much you've gotten me into so many new albums. I don't collect records but I collect CDs and Hi-res FLAC and Wav . What I can't find in those categories I get from itunes. Thank you so much! Love your channel!
As your mind flies by rare bird this was a collector back then . Before your bedtime some old stuff I wouldn't sell it any way we jammed to this as kids
I am 73 yrs old. My husband n I have about 500 albums we bought during the mid 60's and early 70's. We have Kinks, Moby Johnny Lee Hooker, Grape ,Joplin, many Hendrix even a Cher...his not mine. !. I was and still am a Van Morrison and a Doors fan. Bunch of early LED Zeppelin etc. My darling husband passed away 10-21-2021. Still grieving after 47 yrs of marriage. He left me no life ins. ! So I need the money, I am sorry to say this.. My man also had a lot of cds. I have the Beatles white album. I have the LED Zeppelin you just held up. Plus several CSN and Y. My dear husband was a Black Sabbath fan also. We always put our albums in sleeves. Any ides ? Patricia- Michigan.
Sabbath oh Yes...... I scored a Paranoid single with Changes, Tomorrows Dream, Black Sabbath. Original Australian copy 1973 on Vertigo for $5... ching ching!!!!!
You did very well finding those original Vertigo label Sabbath albums and in a pretty decent condition too! Each one goes for a lot of money these days. If you can track down the original poster for the Master Of Reality album that would be the cherry on the cake!
I have never found a Robert L pressing in the wild, one day I will get lucky..lol. I did find a United States in the brown bag abd they gave it to me after I payed for 2 Deads albums. The lady said it was her dads, told me if I like the Dead I would like it.
I went to a sale in Napa Ca. around 1986 and found what looked like an unplayed copy, first pressing of DSOTM with all the goodies inside. Went to a sale in Danville Vt around 1998 and found what looked like an unplayed copy of The Inner Mystic by Chocolate Watch Band. I paid a dollar for each and sold them some years back. The only lp I want is a copy of LZ 1 with the turquose lettering, first UK pressing. I contacted Noble Records and had no response so I thought Id leave an ask here. If someone can lead me to a nice, real, copy
Those are great finds! I apologize for not getting back to you, we get a ton of people asking us to sell them extremely rare records like the turquoise zeppelin, the truth is, I’ve only ever found one, and actually sold it to open my shop. If I ever found another one, I would keep it for my collection. I don’t regret selling it because I needed the money to open the shop but I would like to own it again. Good luck finding one!

It didn't fit in with the rest of the records
I figured pro-rated, I payed about .08 cents for it.
I would’ve died to find that copy of The Sidewinder 😂
My best score was a first pressing sealed copy of Marvin Gaye's "What's Going On." Sealed. Got it for $1.
My best yardsale find was Ramones- Howling at the moon/Chasing the night 12" promo for .50 cents
Some of my goodwill finds for 75 cents each lol

I found that soft Machine album at a yardsale a couple years ago for 50 cents.
FWIW Deepdiscount has Odessey & Oracle re-issue at a great price. Decent reviews of the pressing. Even have the RSD picture disc for $8!
Thanks for watching! 🙏
Oh yeah blonde on blonde mono is very cool. My 1st mono copy is about vg condition which is decent but I would like a upgrade. I got it pretty cheap from my local shop in Buffalo.
the original soft machine is amazing
This is so fkn interesting! I met an old lady at Goodwill the other day who said she had records and I could come by and look! Wish me luck!!!

Sabbath oh Yes...... I scored a Paranoid single with Changes, Tomorrows Dream, Black Sabbath. Original Australian copy 1973 on Vertigo for $5... ching ching!!!!!
Is the Morrison hotel album worth any money? I have several old rock n roll and a few country records as well
Anybody?
You did very well finding those original Vertigo label Sabbath albums and in a pretty decent condition too! Each one goes for a lot of money these days. If you can track down the original poster for the Master Of Reality album that would be the cherry on the cake!
I have never found a Robert L pressing in the wild, one day I will get lucky..lol. I did find a United States in the brown bag abd they gave it to me after I payed for 2 Deads albums. The lady said it was her dads, told me if I like the Dead I would like it.
I actually won that Bob Seger Brand New Day record from a record store back in the day. I'd never heard of him.
Does Your Master Of Reality have a poster?
BTW. Awesome finds!
