    The amazing Brendon Small is great at everything from punishing downstroke rhythms to effortless tremolo melodies. And more importantly he writes killer earwormy songs that deftly combine all these techniques in musically interesting ways. Our two interviews with the Metalocalypse and Galaktikon polymath are out now! troygrady.com/...

      I don't know if he's "underrated", maybe a little less widely known? He's buds with Satriani, Vai, Ian, Holt, etc. so anyone who knows anything about guitar knows who he is. He can destroy most guitarists imo as far as laying down the serious metal and his solos are hardly anything to scoff at. The guy is a fucking beast.

His art and humor shaped my life. I wish he did more, made more shows, did more stand up, played more concerts besides the baked potato, anything to continue his legacy and age with his fans. Troy, this is Daniel Bizon from Brazil. Please do Kiko Loureiro's picking technique analisys. Everyone would love I guess. The big question: does he use two way pickslanting or not?

    • @troygrady
      @troygrady  4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Kiko's technique looks like Martin Miller's. I think the term "two way pickslanting" is a little outdated unless you're talking about something like Gambale, where is actually changing the pick's orientation. For alternate picking motions, we now try to look at which way the pick is moving, and then which joints are doing the motion. So in Kiko's case he looks like "double escape" player, with a semicircular picking motion, and it looks like he's doing it at least partly with finger motion.

    Brendon Small (and Skwisgaar lol) is the reason I spent all that money and bought a Gibson Explorer; I bought all the Dethklok Tab Songbooks at the same time I got that guitar too. The only thing that would make it better is if I got my Explorer signed. I'd like the sand the finish of the back and have Brandon sign it and refinish it so the signature is underneath the finish on the back of the guitar.

    Bought a thunder horse a few months ago, shipped it to Australia where it was broken in transit. Neck absolutley destroyed. Had it fixed which took 4 months, mainly due to humidity slowing down paint time. Finally have it back and its probably going to be a show piece due to the threat of more damage if played with too much vigour. Absolutley love the guitar and all of Brendons music. Still waiting for the Galaktikon live show though.
