A redemption arc that took 7 and a half years to be fulfilled, but was SO worth the wait.
One of the best surprising moments that we didn't know we needed. Suddenly a scene becomes 1000x more important and poignant when you follow up on it. Thor The Dark World was an okay/average movie but became so different when Thor traveled back and saw his mother again..
I honestly was in tears as well…

He lost his parents, his uncle, his aunt and the one he loves. He is the most damaged hero in history but still he's trying to do the right thing.

I prefer this version of her death compared to comic books, since this version we clearly see the impact of the floor broke her neck. In the comics it’s implied Spider-Man trying to save her with his web is what kills her, since the whiplash of him pulling her back causes a “Snap”.
See, I personally prefer the original. It creates a lot more nuance for the death than the movie version where you can just chalk it up to "he was just too late". Cannot tell you how many discussions I have had about whether or not Peter was responsible for her death and partly to blame in the comics. It's very much similar to the nuance in Uncle Ben's death, where you can argue Peter is partly to blame because he did not apprehend Ben's eventual killer when he had the chance to. It's those kinds of nuances that makes Spiderman the greatest, most human, and most relatable hero out there. At least to me. I can definitely understand why other fans prefer the movie Gwen death over the original.
@@TheAlexC so you like the original because it might be his fault and really makes you think about to put as simple as I can, personally I prefer this, I watch this movie when I was younger and I didn’t see her hit her head so I also thought she die from whip lash but when I watch the movie again and I saw she hit her head it made more since then whip lash because you can actually what happened and knowing that it was because he was to late really make you think if just listen to Gwens father everything would have been alright I really wish there was a threes movie would’ve fleshed everything out better, or it would’ve been trash idk😅
@@Nevae_696 realistically though with how strong his webs are and how far down she went she would’ve broken her spine since it was holding onto her mid section and if that didn’t kill her then the blow to the back of her head did it.

I love the little touch that MJ asks Peter if HES ok. Nice little flip of the usual way the dialogue wouldve been done, and REALLY adds to the payoff.
The part that always killed me about Andrews scene was that in a previous slow motion sequence with Electro, he demonstrated a perfect situational awareness during his spider sense and prevented people from being electrocuted. His perception moving at the speed to make that necessary is insane. So what that tells me in this scene, if he has perfect awareness of the situation, a full grasp on all the variables at play, he knew Gwen was dead from the first moment his spider sense kicked in. He knew that he couldn't get to her in time, and he had to try anyway.
Yeah, she knew it too. I think that's why she closed her eyes, she accepted it right before the end

Andrew is the most hurt in Spiderman's live action history, he lost his parents, his uncle, his girlfriend, And when I say he lost them I mean he really lost them not just forget about him

@@justsomenoob1882 In LIVE ACTION history. Miles hasn't made a live action appearance yet. Spider-Verse is an animated film. And even if he did get a live action film, his loses still pale in comparison to Andrew's Peter.
I mean that's almost literally the same for ALL the spider-men. Tobey Maguire's lost Mary Jane as a GF/fiancee, Harry who actually was a friend/brother to him died, had to "kill" his father figure norman because he went insane, his parents and uncle also died and he never had a meaningful relationship with his Gwen.
Garfield's wasn't all that special from that department.
sad part is, even if he did catch her in time before she hit the ground, the whiplash still would have killed her (which is what happens in the comics)
I guess that's why Andrew's Spiderman saves MJ in different way in No Way Homs
she would die someway or another even if she wasn't even there to begin with cause its a canon event. spider-man is truly one of the most broken characters in all of marvel

It is theoretically propounded that many theater goers struggled for sleep after seeing the film (at one AMC cinema) because of Gwens unforgettable terrified gaze as she fell.
Those few seconds after Andrew's Spider-man asks MJ if she is ok is some of the most heartfelt acting I have ever seen, and he doesn't even say a word while he does it.
It still gets to me after watching it well over 30 times. Amazing actor.
This scene was one of the most saddest scenes ever in cinema history!!! it's why The Amazing Spider-Man films will forever hold a special place in my heart and why I never stopped supporting Andrew Garfield as Spider-Man for he delivered in his performance alongside Tobey Maguire and the recent Spider-Man Tom Holland, to this day I blame Captain Stacey for what happened to his daughter for if he hadn't basically placed a curse on Peter telling him hypocritically to stay away from his daughter that wouldn't never have happened or if it did it would have devastated him for sure but he wouldn't have been so wrecked with self hatred for so-called "breaking his promise" and I say hypocritical because of the fact he was trying to make Peter do something that he himself never did for as chief of police he too was making enemies that was constantly putting his family in danger yet he didn't stop doing what he was doing; what he himself loved to do which was protect the city and the people so why ask a fellow individual that was fighting for justice the same way he was (just in his own unconventional way) to not be themselves, I feel in putting that kind of guilt trip on Peter it doomed his chances of happiness with Gwen hence why I was so happy he was able to free himself of that guilt and curse by Saving the love interest of the MCU's Spider-Man!💯😘😉😁👍

I thought about it, and is there a sadder death in a superhero movie? Of forget about sadder, is there another death as close as this? I can't really think of alot of sad superhero type deaths, aunt may or tony stark but they don't compare.
@@YoureMrLebowski well my feelings weren't that much different from season six of the series 24 when James Heller blamed Jack Bauer for the trauma his daughter Audrey Heller went through saying how he was cursed and that everything he touches dies making it seem that because of him being a government agent that her life was practically ruined because of him fighting terrorism when he himself in fact was the Secretary of Defense and later on in season 9 became president of the United States, both his job descriptions made everyone that was in his life a Target which was the case in season 4 when as the Secretary of Defense both he and his daughter (who was serving as his personal assistant mind you) were kidnapped by a group of terrorists that the character Jack had to save them from so the turnaround of Heller betraying him saying he's the blame for the suffering she went through because of his job when her father's job was no different from his in the danger factor was just straight up hypocritical and wrong!💯😉😁👍
I agree it's the captains fault.. If he didn't say leave Gwen out of this.. He wouldn't be living in this guilt and either way shes going to be in the middle of it either way whether she choses to help Peter or not.
Earlier then fight on top of tower Gwen run out from Oscorp and give antidote to Captain. This moment is difference between George and Peter. Captain all time did his job by himself, without closer people. May be then he said "leave Gwen all of it" it was literally. May he means don't mix love and danger.
@Steve Robertson Still wasn't right nor his place to say that because he mix love and danger all the time with his job and yet he had a family he Didn't let the dangers of his job stop him from marrying his wife and having a child so he was just being very foolish and hypocritical in telling Peter to leave his daughter out of something he himself wouldn't do!🔥💯😉😁👍
Everyone who read the comic knew what happened to Gwen but I read that the filmmakers were keeping everyone in suspense as to whether they were going to in fact kill Gwen or not. BUT, when everyone saw the green coat, they knew what was going to happen.

That "Thud" was the biggest highlight of the scene.
I like how people think she hit her head, well maybe like a little inch, but her neck snapped, maybe the spine too, heart rate, and all that. Not just one thing, all at once.
If you slow it down, her head did hit the cement hard. Everything else is exactly as you said though.
She hits her head at full terminal then the rest of her is stopped suddenly so yea combo of factors
I'm sorry, but some of these edits are absolutely hilarious. The sudden extreme close up of Primate's face at 1:53 especially. Probably just the juxtaposition between that and the somberness of the scene
It’s sad how they are all saving “ no he saved her she’s ok” and then your see blood coming out of Gwen’s nose. And immediately when I heard that thud. I knew she was dead. And when Spider Man No Way Home was released. I was freaking the hell how thinking she is dead but Andrew comes for the saved. The movies of spider-man are very freaking awesome
For those of us who know the comics, seeing people react to this moment not knowing this was coming was just as bad as already knowing this was coming 😢 and wow I know almost all these reaction channels 😅
Spiderman is the ultimate superhero. This was an insanely beautiful redemption that expanded on the comics in a way that I don't think Marvel has been able to do until that point. There might be wayyyyy too many Marvel movies out there these days but I will always love that scene from No Way Home.
Gwen was the hardest death for me. Even more than Black Widow. To me, Gwen was the embodiment of Purity and Love. Like she was the Goddess Harmonia, the Goddess of Harmony. I just felt a profound sadness I didn’t know I had in me for this poor girl. Grief, I felt grief for her and a hopelessness for humanity. Gwen was the Queen we chose and didn’t even realize we did. She was a Champion of Humanity, like Tony Stark. Everything she did was for the better of others.

She hit the back of her head and her spine might've even broke too. That was a powerful whiplash effect. I still wish there had been a glimpse of Gwen in that moment where he's diving for MJ but it was still a great moment.

After seeing this movie, my impressions of Andrew Garfield's Peter Parker and Spider Man grew three times that day. Seeing his acting in this movie made me move on from the idea that he wasn't Tobey nor did he need to be. His take was actually a very endearing version that brought to the table a very emotionally vulnerable Peter who had really almost every person that mattered to him, and on top of that, immense guilt not only for Uncle Ben's death, but now the girl he loved too. The acting he did in No Way Home really showed this vulnerable side that made him not only funny and relatable, but extremely endearing and worthy of so much empathy for the dark years he'd been through. Having probably played out that moment in his mind so many times over the years, he must have thought of so many possible solutions had the situation been slightly different, so seeing this very smooth save of Tom's MJ made me realize how much emotion suddenly flooded his mind, like a "I almost experienced the same thing again through another Peter," but a feeling of disbelief and relief that the end result did not happen again this time. Great acting, and it sold me on his personal character arc, which I hope we really do get a chance to explore more of now.

And gwen's death was even harder for peter because her dad was always worried about this outcome and even in his dying moments he asked peter to promise him to keep gwen out of the shit.but peter failed miserably to keep the promise. And things went exactly the way gwen's father was scared of.
This is why Peter told Gwen not to get involved in Spidey business.
To me that redemption is partially a redemption of Andrew Garfield in real life too, just the way his Spider-Man role had ended.
My sister got really into Spider-Man after far from home so I decided to watch all of the movies with her in preparation for no way home. When Gwen was falling she said “Yeah, like they’re actually going to kill her” sarcastically. Moments later there were tears in her eyes

I just realized if the villians got cured doesn’t that mean that Gwen comes back? Because the reason Gwen died was because of Harry, Harry got the serum because of electro, and if there is no electro then Harry doesn’t get the serum, so that would mean that Gwen wouldn’t die
Electro would be going back to the moment before he died meaning the serum would've already been acquired and used by Harry. Harry would still target Gwen like he did because he wants revenge and probably succeed in murdering her. I mean the writers can write whatever they want and try to bring her back in some form if another sequel were made by I don't personally see her alive again.
