The contrast between Barry trying more, discussing the flavours and how he feels about it, whilst Becky is going through the 5 stages of grief and then some from the tiniest nibble.
Liquid smoke is amazing, which is why I use up to five drops for a whole pot of chili - I can't imagine a full tea spoon, let alone two! That must have smelled and tasted like a hectare's worth of condensed forest fire remains...
As soon as I saw how much liquid smoke was put in I knew it was going to be rough, I normally have to put it by the drop if I don't want it to be overpowering. I do enjoy using calvados in different bits and bobs though, for Christmas I do an apple Christmas pud where the fruit is soaked in calvados (plus some apple compot in the middle) and it gives it a really nice flavour & smell.
For the smokey scent left in your fridge, you should try leaving an open container of baking soda in there, it'll absorb the scent and hopefully help make your fridge unscented again.
The look on Mrs B's face had me in tears of laughter, and the look of horror as she realised you were eating more of it, thank-you, you brightened my day :)
We all have that one recipe that just didn’t turn out right taste wise- mine was making eggplant parmigiana. Mrs B’s reaction bought back memories of my fams reaction to that one! Love the video, you keep them interesting!
Stick a few boxes of baking soda in your fridge it will absorb all the smells then in a months time throw it out into your veggies garden if you've got one it's great for keeping bugs away.
Yes, there is such a thing as half-and-half. And the only brand I buy land of Lakes I use it in my coffee every morning it is the only thing I put in my coffee outside sweetener.
Mrs B will forever crack me up. She's so used to Barry's antics by now. Barry, I'd love to see you try "gourmet marshmallows." I wonder how it would be if you made a s'mores one and used a drop or two of liquid smoke.
When I heard bacon jelly I thought of a sweet brown sugary jelly with crispy bacon pieces something you can throw on a southern made biscuit oh my god that sounds so good
It is, Canadians who eat something called flipper pie (made of seal flippers 🤮, would destroy something as good as bacon jelly (what I’ve heard others say, I’ve never tried it)
Wow… I’m in Australia 🇦🇺 & can’t believe I’m up late enough to be early to one of your videos… You have inspired me to start cooking in the kitchen (don’t know where else I’d be cooking?) you are amazing & have tried many of your recipes (some have turned out better than others… but am not giving up!) You you fam Mrs B, Phoebe & Chloe are my favourite TH-cam family & love it when you put out video’s… Keep up thee awesome work & keep true to yourself! You are worth it! I hope I’ve written this early enough for a comment/shoutout… 😊 God Bless you all 🙏🏽
I think i would have made a red and white layer with waves, cut them into strips, then used the last white layer to glue them up for more randomness in the "meat" and "lard". Fun project Barry!
@@mrbarrylewis it looked nasty lol maybe take out the liquid smoke and use a strong smoked bacon? Or two different types of fresh smoked bacon? Have you tried the bacon made by an Australian chef - cannot remember his name but he got streaky bacon covered it with sugar and grilled it till crip and cooked and poured melted chocolate over it. He had a series all dedicated to meat. Wish I could remember his name. Found him after a long search the series was called the Secret Meat Business and the chef is Adrian Richardson - Bacon Sweeties.
There's a place in New Braunfels, I think, off I-35 southbound side. They have a sampler basket of the bizarre Texas style jellies. They have an amazing cinnamon roll loaf. Maybe send one to Barry...? I'd do it but we've moved 😢
Place an open container of baking soda in the fridge and that will absorb the smells that you do not want to linger there. Thanks for all your hard work, like the video.
Try bacon jam. It's a delicious condiment for a charcuterie board, with cheese, meats and crackers. Add an open box of bicarb soda into your fridge to absorb the odours.
And as for the fridge odour, baking soda or activated charcoal (filtration stuff!) in an open dish it'll absorb the accumulated smells in there, that or a good deep-clean... :P
Calvados is Cider Brandy. It has a long history here in England and was possibly made here first. I work at a specialty bottle shop that sells some incredible and sweet Worcestershire and Somerset Cider Brandy
Maybe that needs a combination of something, like hushpuppies or a kind of potatoe muffin, like a breakfastmuffin. Maybe even a tipe of pastry would go well with this as filling. I think I would do less marplesirup and also less liquid smoke. I guess carameld onions would give a nice touch, maybe.
In the US they even sell boxes of sodium bicarbonate with a panel that opens up and has a fine mesh for high surface area so you can just have the box in your fridge for odor control.
Why has this title for this made me get Bootylicious from Destiny’s Child in my head? “I don’t think you’re ready for this bacon jelly”! (If I have it stuck in my head, others can have it too- sharing is caring!) 😂
Barry, can you try and recreate the Quaker porridge to go oat bars? Specifically the strawberry ones, they’re just a bit expensive really but I quite like them
I was thinking about Chloe trying it then I remembered the whole "one is dairy-free and the other is vegetarian" and this is a no for both... They had quite the luck with their children's diets 😂 I suppose if they had another they'd be vegan 😅
It was funny that you specified that the American recipe calls it jello, because as an American when I first saw the title of the video I thought you were making bacon jam (it's called that here in the US too, but here our jelly is basically just strained jam instead of a gelatin dessert)
Calvados is pronounced ... Cal-v-dos, the second "a" is not pronounced. it is a very popular liquor in France and here in Jersey in the Channel Islands.
I believed that "half and half" is half whole milk and half double cream, looking into it it seems that it's basically interchangeable with single cream.
You had me soooo confused… Bacon *JELLY*???🤔 In the US, *jelly* is like a fruit spread you put on toast & such - the pict had me really titling my head.😂 While I’m not sure I’d give this one a try (Mrs. B's face said A LOT!🥴LOL), I was happy to see it was actually like a Bacon Gelatin & not fruit spread.👍🏼
Here's some more Barry tries on this playlist! th-cam.com/video/tgzxe7jJ6oA/w-d-xo.html&pp=gAQBiAQB
Thanks for this barry! Gonna check out the joliness!
Mrs. B! 😂 😂
You know what you need to do now Barry, get Ashens to taste it.
Mrs B your better than me, theres no way i would have tried that, sorry mr B that looks rank !!
"Nothing surprises me anymore" I'm laughing so hard Mrs B! 😂
That was a fantastic reaction and I LOVE IT 😳🤷🏼♀️😂😂😂
Mrs B’s face when she ate it was the Face I’ve been making for the whole video 😂
The contrast between Barry trying more, discussing the flavours and how he feels about it, whilst Becky is going through the 5 stages of grief and then some from the tiniest nibble.
"Why is the pan on fire?"
"I'm making bacon jelly"
"Okay"
😂
‘Nothing surprises me anymore!’
You set a pan on fire. I'm thinking what would Mrs. B think if she saw you. Poof! In she walks "nothing surprises me anymore". Brilliant. Made my day.
Liquid smoke is amazing, which is why I use up to five drops for a whole pot of chili - I can't imagine a full tea spoon, let alone two! That must have smelled and tasted like a hectare's worth of condensed forest fire remains...
I was going to say the same thing - whenever I use it the quantity is measured in drops, not teaspoons
Exactly what I was saying to myself 😂
'Apples that have been in Mordor' has got to be the most perfect description for Calvados that I've ever heard... 🤣
It looked like he was getting instantly drunk before our eyes.
Poor Mrs. Barry.... Nothing surprises me anymore lol 😂😂 Look on her face when she walked in and saw the Pan on fire lol😂
Love the “Barry Tries” series. Excellent stuff. Looking forward to the next one!
Thanks
Mrs B: “Okay. Nothing surprises me, anymore.”
Iconic. 😂
For the smokey scent left in your fridge, you should try leaving an open container of baking soda in there, it'll absorb the scent and hopefully help make your fridge unscented again.
Love you so much mate! Even when trying this stuff you and mrs B maintain such jolly dispositions! You always brighten my day barry!
cheers Daniel thanks a bunch
I love mrs B 😂 she is so unfazed by Barry's antics and the crazy recipes he tries out
Starting to think you need to do an episode about fire safety in the kitchen and useful gadgets to keep you (or your house) from burning up 😅
Now you might be on to something there ;)
Every time bary deep fries on gas it scares me. The pan is so full almost all of the time.
Mrs B! Right at the end, when you said you're going to put it back in the fridge... just the plaintive "no" said it all!!😂😂😂
Half and half can and often is used as a coffee creamer but it's used in lots of cooking dishes, I use it to make a quiche by adding it to the eggs
The look on Mrs B's face had me in tears of laughter, and the look of horror as she realised you were eating more of it, thank-you, you brightened my day :)
Proof Mrs.B loves Barry !
lol yep!
“Oh, you’re going back for more…”
Poor Mrs. B 😂
Liquid smoke is the strongest ingredient in the whole kitchen, you gotta be really careful with that stuff
Yes, I reckon it was berely even needed here
yeah 2 teaspoons like what!
We all have that one recipe that just didn’t turn out right taste wise- mine was making eggplant parmigiana. Mrs B’s reaction bought back memories of my fams reaction to that one!
Love the video, you keep them interesting!
Bless you Mrs. B for even contemplating trying this!!!
Putting a bowl with bicarbonate of soda in it in the fridge for a few days will help absorb the smokey smell.
Doing that right now lol although it has gone mostly, there is still a little stench
Stick a few boxes of baking soda in your fridge it will absorb all the smells then in a months time throw it out into your veggies garden if you've got one it's great for keeping bugs away.
You're one of my favorite youtubers of all time barry! keep up the amazing work mate!
One of the best things you've ever made.
Find yourself someone who is as supportive yet brutally honest like Mrs. B!
Yes, there is such a thing as half-and-half. And the only brand I buy land of Lakes I use it in my coffee every morning it is the only thing I put in my coffee outside sweetener.
Mrs B will forever crack me up. She's so used to Barry's antics by now.

I bet Mrs. B cannot wait till you get that garden kitchen done.
Interesting recipe & thanks Barry n Mrs B + family 🤗🥓
I took 8th grade Spanish with Kevin Bacon's niece, about a thousand years ago. I hope that helps anyone with a high number of degrees from him.
haha amazing
Mrs B's face is such a mood. like same girl same.
I don't think I've ever seen Barry hate something he has made. 😂
I feel the need to recommend Bacon Jam, it's what I make here in America. Try that recipe and I promise you will love it! 😊❤
Tip. To get the smell out.
Wet a page of newspaper. Wring out excess water and ball it up and stick in fridge. Takes away all the horrible smells.
I think everyone can agree Mrs B is the bravest woman ever 😆
Wow… I’m in Australia 🇦🇺 & can’t believe I’m up late enough to be early to one of your videos…

Do you know Bluey?
Cooking in the kitchen.... You're in Australia, shouldn't you be cooking on the grill (barbi) outside? Ha, ha! Hello from Oregon US
Hi. Greetings from Dimboola, in Victoria, Australia.
always makes my day/night!
thanks
Oh my goodness! Becky!!! Bravo for trying that!!! I think I’d of run a mile 😂
LOL Im laughing about Mrs B telling you nothing surprises her!!! Thanks Becky! I needed that laugh!!!
Very surprising recipe, well done!
I think i would have made a red and white layer with waves, cut them into strips, then used the last white layer to glue them up for more randomness in the "meat" and "lard". Fun project Barry!
Love Calvados - lol maybe use less white layer so it doesn't dominate it?
Yep IF I ever did this again (which is highly unlikely!) I would do that for sure
@@mrbarrylewis it looked nasty lol maybe take out the liquid smoke and use a strong smoked bacon? Or two different types of fresh smoked bacon? Liquid smoke is very strong, one or two drops is way more than enough.
Here in Texas you can get real bacon jelly/jam that has no dairy in it.
Out of all your videos this is the one thing I really do not want to try, but also really want to try! 😂
Awesome Video Barry Lewis
Try bacon jam. It's a delicious condiment for a charcuterie board, with cheese, meats and crackers. Add an open box of bicarb soda into your fridge to absorb the odours.

fun fact, liquid smoke is exactly what it says on the tin. They condense smoke...
you should have ago at making a jelly BLT doing the same method but for each part including the Bread, Bacon, Lettice and Tomato
Well, I didn't expect Barry to say the word "stonkin" today. HAHA
When using liquid smoke... LESS is MORE.. haha we love when you just go all in !!
Calvados is Cider Brandy. It has a long history here in England and was possibly made here first. I work at a specialty bottle shop that sells some incredible and sweet Worcestershire and Somerset Cider Brandy
6:35 "why is our sauce pan on fire?" i love how mrs. B. is just used to all of it xD
Also, how did you have your bacon expert dye the jelly but not taste the end product in the bonus scene?!
The last time I used liquid smoke, my pork loins went from pork loins into smelling and tasting like hotdogs. 😂
I have had caramel bacon before and it is absolutely delicious! but I am fighting to figure how that jello is gonna taste good. lol
Barry talking to camera....Mrs B questioning ALL her life choices 😂
Maybe that needs a combination of something, like hushpuppies or a kind of potatoe muffin, like a breakfastmuffin. Maybe even a tipe of pastry would go well with this as filling. I think I would do less marplesirup and also less liquid smoke. I guess carameld onions would give a nice touch, maybe.
I don't think anyone is ready
For this jelly 🥓
Baconce (like Beyonce?!) nope lol
"A long walk from Boston"
To Weston-Super-Mare? Yeah that would be along walk indeed!
Would love to see you and Heston Blumethol do a collqb Barry 👍 👌 food science and creativity at its best 👌
Oh my... I gagged with Mrs B. LOL
This was funny to watch 😂😂😂
I enjoyed the video. I just wanted to say put a box of baking soda in your fridge to help soak up strong odors.
To get the smell out of your fridge put either a bowl of used coffee grounds or a bowl of sodium bicarbonate in there.
In the US they even sell boxes of sodium bicarbonate with a panel that opens up and has a fine mesh for high surface area so you can just have the box in your fridge for odor control.
Oh coffee nice idea
The tasting is so funny😂
It does look good for bacon jello... But not bacon jelly... Bacon jelly is totally different... Great video...
My son makes bacon jam which is spread on toast or is a garnish on meat sandwiches. It is much easier to make than bacon jelly and much tastier
Needs a 😮 button for this one lol
haha yeah, I love finding quirky recipes from time to time!
The look on Becky's face!! I have found that a half teaspoon of liquid smoke does the job for most foods we make. Strong stuff!
I was hoping for a verdict from The Bacon Expert at the end. Maybe a short?
Could this be the first entry on a new playlist: "Barry tries (but never again)"?
Why has this title for this made me get Bootylicious from Destiny’s Child in my head? “I don’t think you’re ready for this bacon jelly”! (If I have it stuck in my head, others can have it too- sharing is caring!) 😂
No way did I know you would sing it at 11:49 when I wrote this comment at the start of the video! Great minds think alike Barry! 😂
haha good prediction!
Would it be ok in a sandwich with ketchup or brown sauce?
Fun fact: apples that have been in Mordor become po-ta-toes.
10:17 "Ooh, my gosh, smell that!"
It's still TH-cam, Barry...
Box of baking soda in the fridge for the smell.
👍👃👍
That was definitely some technicolor 🥓lol
Barry, can you try and recreate the Quaker porridge to go oat bars? Specifically the strawberry ones, they’re just a bit expensive really but I quite like them
I was thinking about Chloe trying it then I remembered the whole "one is dairy-free and the other is vegetarian" and this is a no for both... They had quite the luck with their children's diets 😂 I suppose if they had another they'd be vegan 😅
I’m supposed to be asleep but ya know I’m here 🥹🥹😅 I miss seeing the girls !!! 💕
Cheers, they appear when they want to, I don't ever force them to appear and sometimes they aren't home or are too busy with hobbies
It was funny that you specified that the American recipe calls it jello, because as an American when I first saw the title of the video I thought you were making bacon jam (it's called that here in the US too, but here our jelly is basically just strained jam instead of a gelatin dessert)
This was one of the more bizarre tries. But at least Barry didn't blow up a toaster in this one.
when I first read the title I thought you were making bacon jam. LOL
Calvados is pronounced ... Cal-v-dos, the second "a" is not pronounced. it is a very popular liquor in France and here in Jersey in the Channel Islands.
Nice one!
Berry you should look into bacon jam. Very good
That little exchange at 6:32 was pretty funny. I mean, what did she expect?
Might be able to cut it into cubes and add it to some rice with some egg.
I have to show our professional chef this video!
if you have a chest freezer put everything in that and wash your fridge out leave it overnight then restock it
I believed that "half and half" is half whole milk and half double cream, looking into it it seems that it's basically interchangeable with single cream.
Mrs. B needs to get her own back on you now!
Oh Barry. Calva(dos) should only be had after a very heavy and rich meal as the Truc Normonde - the Norman Hole. Sometimes known as a Canard - duck!
bloody hell barry. i think that set off MY fire alarm.
