My videos aren’t about making money. It’s about educating and having fun. I have a full time job as a truck driver to support my model train hobby 😂 But it’s guys like you that inspire me to make content for fun.
"I wonder what all the poor people are doing today?" 😂 I'm still laughing. Another great vid and I'll be watching diligently in the future. You're an excellent teacher whose passion should garner you even more subscribers. I've watched others doing these repairs and maintenance on old and forgotten trains but none compare to your dedication and down to earth presentations. Big 👍's up.
I have been with you for over a year now as a subscriber. I have enjoyed all your videos and hope you continue putting out the retro repairs of DC equipment as they are for me the core of our hobby. Every time a new video comes out I can't wait to watch it. And yes I do take away a lot of information that you share and use this in the maintenance and repairs of my collection which is truly inspired by your efforts. Thank you and congratulations!
Ron, I watch your channel for the information, but what really keeps me coming back is your unique entertainment "value." Your dry wit, unpretentious commentary, and "let's see" exploration make each video time well spent. But please don't let all that money change you. Great video, thanks for sharing.
Ron, you have something lots of channels try to do but end up failing at doing. And that’s having character! You have a unique sense of humor and it makes your videos watchable
Ron, so very sorry for your loss. I’m a bit older than you, (70), but I emember losing my parents. It is a dreadful experience. But time will heal, friend. They’ll live within your heart forever. God bless.
Hey Ron! My name is Sam. I have been fixing up my old HO scale trains, some of them I have had since my childhood. I’m a former addict of the substance that was featured in the popular TV show “Breaking Bad”… I am clean now, and I really enjoy watching your videos! They have motivated me to get back into the hobby again, at a time when I needed something constructive to do more than anything. Thank you Ron!!!

It wasnt cars and girls that stopped my train addiction. In Nov. 1983, we had a house fire. From 1971 when I got my first train set to that point I had been collecting Lionel and American Flyer. Post war stuff. In 81 I got into HO and N scales. I saved alot of my money and bought lot of my stuff at yard sales and flea markets. Had family and friends giving me things too. Total loss on the house. Nothing survived. I got discouraged. For the last 10 years I have been trying to replace everything. Been a hard road. Still a long way from what I had. I love the hobby.

I had wanted to look you up while I was in Montana. The schedule was very tight, but maybe next time. Congratulations on your success with the channel! I have thought about starting a channel as well, but things have been so busy. Keep the videos coming!
@@classicmodeltrains very welcome! I have been having great fun upgrading my $2 freight cars using your "evergreen" post on that theme as a guide. I actually had picked up 2 of those silver TYCO quad hoppers in VGN markings just like on the title page there, and I've done 'em both up, now I'm working on a west virgina coal mine scene, got some Virginian locos that are honeys and a bunch more VGN hoppers - very grateful for the inspiration!
I really enjoyed the video and openess. I knew a man who made money on side for model railroading building layouts and custom decorating shells. This is an old skool approach.
I debated whether or not to pursue monetization, but for me since model railroading is a hobby for fun I'd hate to make it into something I dread. Like when I worked for the railroad, I started part of my layout... but at the end of the day it was still dealing with two rails. So I worked on my old trucks more.
Well that explains my problem with Frankentrain Laboratories channel, I am bashful, I don't know how to edit videos, I am too bust designing parts, or building trains to edit or polish of fuss about light, sound etc. So far it's okay, I use my allowance to pay for the work I do. Sometimes I actually sell parts to viewers and that all get plowed back in. Maybe one day or maybe not. It is Fine. You take care and keep up the good work. Dennis in Virginia.
If it is any constellation, I wouldn't be working on my newly required Train Sets or even have gotten back into having trains back in my life, there I said it......
Ron, I always enjoy your videos, I'm just starting a layout after years of interest.. all dc. Dcc is great, but I'm enjoying dc. Thanks for your videos, glad that you made a whopping $7.00 + and now Unkle Sa wants his cut😢..
Ron, I've gotten some Model Trains etc. magazines from tge 50's , 60's and a few from the early 50's. Not all in the best condition (covers missing ) but intact. If you are interested in them, I'll give them to you. Rough guess, 20 or so copies.
Hi Ron…I enjoy your videos very much…been out of the hobby for 30 years, now trying to get back with it…looking for your store on EBay…cannot seem to find it…any hints…best wishes from eastern Ontario…
Thank you for the nice words. I dont have a eBay store. I sell on eBay under the username classicmodeltrains. currently I just have 1 non railroad type item listed. In all the video descriptions is a link to my eBay seller page.
I also wonder where the viewers might be from. I, for one, am writing this from Prague, Czech Republic (I am a Canadian living here since the 90's). What states and countries are other viewers from? Ineteresting to know where the bulk of viewers are.
Prague? Very Cool. Ive had Fellers tell me New Zealand , Australia, Brazil, Germany, Canada, India, former Yugoslavia, this TH-cam thing really gets around :-)
You Tube definitely shouldn’t base things on subs considering they know every channel that gets views only has about 1/3 of the watchers be subscribers , and they under pay by three fold on the watches at minimum
It took me 15-20 video's before I started relaxing. It's nice when you get people commenting on your vid's. then you know your not talking into just a camera, your actually talking to people watching. Practice and practice will get you loosened up I guess I would say :-)
My videos aren’t about making money. It’s about educating and having fun. I have a full time job as a truck driver to support my model train hobby 😂 But it’s guys like you that inspire me to make content for fun.

@@classicmodeltrains if you ever plan on being in the Chicago area for a bit give me holler.
@@LifeOfRiley2166 I have never traveled that far east but if I do, thanks for the invite :-)
@@classicmodeltrains there are several great railroad museums and train clubs etc.
I debated whether or not to pursue monetization, but for me since model railroading is a hobby for fun I'd hate to make it into something I dread. Like when I worked for the railroad, I started part of my layout... but at the end of the day it was still dealing with two rails. So I worked on my old trucks more.
I hear exactly what your saying there. :-)
Great vid, thanks!
Thanks John!!
I'm having a super hard time finding parts like comutator springs and brushes. Also finding schematics
Yes them parts are tough depending on what brand your working on. Google serves me well for schematics
Us poor people are watching your videos helping you rake in those big bucks 😅
hopefully in a few more years I can break even :-)
Well that explains my problem with Frankentrain Laboratories channel, I am bashful, I don't know how to edit videos, I am too bust designing parts, or building trains to edit or polish of fuss about light, sound etc. So far it's okay, I use my allowance to pay for the work I do. Sometimes I actually sell parts to viewers and that all get plowed back in. Maybe one day or maybe not. It is Fine. You take care and keep up the good work. Dennis in Virginia.
takes awhile to get used to talking naturally to a camera and a empty room. Practice makes perfect!! Thanks for your kind words Dennis
If it is any constellation, I wouldn't be working on my newly required Train Sets or even have gotten back into having trains back in my life, there I said it......
You Mom was right. I am a bad influence :-)
I lived in the high desert cal city. Road the Tehachapi loop on flat bead
Cool!!
Ron, I always enjoy your videos, I'm just starting a layout after years of interest.. all dc. Dcc is great, but I'm enjoying dc. Thanks for your videos, glad that you made a whopping $7.00 + and now Unkle Sa wants his cut😢..
Thanks Charlie :-)
Ron, I've gotten some Model Trains etc. magazines from tge 50's , 60's and a few from the early 50's. Not all in the best condition (covers missing ) but intact. If you are interested in them, I'll give them to you. Rough guess, 20 or so copies.
Good work by you. I watched this clip twice, so maybe I helped you make an extra 25cents. 😃
Thank you Tommy. The current pay schedule is $7.00 per thousand views.
There’s one from Brazil at least: me!😊
Hi ron it's ken it's not the channel people like it's you😊
Hello Ken, Thanks!!
next video, how much is left after the IRS gets done
Yup. I will be 30% poorer :-)
You Tube definitely shouldn’t base things on subs considering they know every channel that gets views only has about 1/3 of the watchers be subscribers , and they under pay by three fold on the watches at minimum
it's weird how they figure stuff with all the analytics
The dead air , I hear you .????? Thanks.
Not making reference to anybody’s channel in particular. Just some train vids I’ve seen have a lot of dead air :-)
Any tips on getting more relaxed in front of the camera?
It took me 15-20 video's before I started relaxing. It's nice when you get people commenting on your vid's. then you know your not talking into just a camera, your actually talking to people watching. Practice and practice will get you loosened up I guess I would say :-)
I hope the numbers have bumped up this year.
Hope you are at least making $8/hour now 😅
Might be up to $8.55 ;-)
@@classicmodeltrains even better
Get your self a good CPA and write off all the “production expenses”
Without you, the channel would be like every other channel, not worth s***😮
Glad I bring so much to the table.
