FIRST CLASS VIDEO !! wow. you're obviously a very good pilot... but also a very good film maker. this is the most helpful paragliding video ive ever seen. thank you very much for taking this time to help all us other pilots out. I hope I get to see you one day to buy you a beer. cheers.
Wow, excellent video with lots of information and instructions. Definitely at the top of my top 5 paragliding videos to watch. I don't know the part towards Schio and I'm a little too cautious to take your "leave the climb, you have a lot of height" advice, but even for a turning point much earlier than your, this is a very valuable video. Congratulations.
Thank you for watching, and I'm glad you found it useful! When we learn to fly, we first learn how to circle in the thermals to fly far. Then, we learn how NOT to circle in the thermals to fly farther 😀 With more experience, we feel better where to be patient and where to push. But better learn slowly - to stay safe and have fun!
Very useful video for newbies, to be sure. It sure makes it easier to learn how to fly flights like this when you can see the whole thing as a video ahead of time. Back when I started flying cross country in the 1980s, we had no cell phones, no digital video, no GPS, and no one to show us what to do.we had to figure it out for ourselves. The learning curve was pretty steep.
Thank you! I absolutely love this video. So clear, so informative. I've been trying to fly from Bassano to Garda lake for two years now, without success so far. I've bombed out shortly after the Schio crossing. With the help of this video, I'm sure I'll get further next time! Any chances you might do such video?😉
Thanks for watching! Flying from Bassano to the Garda lake is possible, there are several flights logged on XContest. Wish you good luck! Indeed, getting back from the Garda lake to Bassano in the same flight is a tough challenge - that's the reason I haven't tried it yet. Maybe with my new (faster) wing I'll try it though 😊
Well, with the exception of that cemetery, I didn't actually point to any triggers - I've always said "Search for thermals here". So rather key spots to gain the altitude, not triggers 😀 Anyway - I wish you success for your next Bassano flights, I hope this video helps you fly farther and faster!
Really enjoyed this wonderfully informative video. I'm heading out to Bassano in the spring and will do my best to follow your route. Thanks for sharing 🙏
very good tutorial, I was supposed to go there this week, but the weather didn't look very good, so we canceled the trip. will definitely watch this again before going next time.
Excellent! Very informative vid! I flew this triangle but only out Asiago in May. I ended up completing a 70k triangle. I look forward to doing the 120k one next time.
Super gemacht, Dimi!
Yep, that week was just awesome, such a pleasant weather to fly! I really like the Peak 6, but it might be slightly less performant compared to the other top EN-D wings like Leopard, XCRacer, or Zeno 2. On the other side, it's much more comfortable compared to them and has probably the most pleasant handling in this category.
@@turkeyphant Surely not every day, but you can feel how good the day will be just in the first 20-30 mins of the flight. Cloud base, thermal strength and size, meteo wind, cloud picture, and so on.
really nice and helpful video! Would be interesting to see your height data all the time to better judge the conditions on your glide. Maybe in a naxt video? :)

@@dymanoid i think there i no way to integrate the data directly. You will need 3rd party software for that. I belive the software will do the synchonization via timestamps automatically. I've never done it on my own, but there are some nice paragliding videos with telemetric data out there, so there has to be a way^^
Thank you for watching! There is no reliable way to measure the wind speed during the flight without a true air speed sensor which I don't have. My flight instruments only give a very rough estimation based on the GPS tracking, so the only meaningful info I could have included would be "light headwind" or "strong tailwind" which is probably not what you want.
Thanks for watching! The best months for big XC flights in Bassano are probably March-May and August-September. Still, sometimes it works in February, June or October as well.
Your question already contains the answer 😉 Every 120 km flight is not easy. If you don't have experience flying for 6 hours or more, you may struggle with this one. As for the wing, this route is perfectly doable on a high EN-B. On a low EN-B, you'd need a good day for that (higher cloud base, less wind).
I wouldn't recommend any wings. You could ask your instructor, your flying school, or experienced pilots who know you and your skills and flying style.
I use my flight instrument XCTracer MAXX to record my flight tracklogs. I also use an app called XCTrack for navigation and live tracking during the flight. For 3D visualization in this video, I used an online service called replay.flights. I store all my flights on DHV-XC - a German paragliding flight database, and most of the flights also on XContest.

what time of the year is the best to fly this range? oh you mention october and march already I see now. I wonder how far I could come with my A-Glider
The best time for XC flying in Bassano is probably March-May and August-September. On an EN-A wing, a 50-60 km route is doable for sure. For a 100 km triangle on an EN-A you will need a perfect day - no wind and exceptionally high cloud base (more than 2000 m AMSL).
Yes, it's possible - but only one way, of course. You have to keep in mind the restricted airspaces though - you only have a chance to do it on Saturday or Sunday, because there are restricted airspaces (Aviano) active on weekdays. You can cross the Piave river and fly to Belluno and then back. Up to 200 km triangles are possible in this way. I'll do a video about flying a 150+ km triangle visiting Belluno soon 😀
@@dymanoid thank you for the quick response with such useful informations! Meduno was my first place, where I met thermals. Waiting for the next video!
Sometimes you can in fact feel that the air around you gets warmer. But most of the time you sense a thermal by the air movement, it gets shaky and turbulent, and also the flight instrument - the vario - starts beeping.
You can check the video description - I referenced my XContest flight there. I flew this triangle on October the 1st, and last year a similar one on October the 8th - so you can even do this in late autumn. The best time is probably March-May and August-September.
I believe, an experienced pilot could fly this route on a modern EN-A wing on an exceptionally good day (high cloud base, light wind). However, no such flights have been recorded until today. A more realistic route would be about 80 km without the Schio crossing.

Hey thanks for the tutorial!! How difficult would that be for a intermediate paraglider on a en-b with low medium experience of long flights?
Your question already contains the answer 😉 Every 120 km flight is not easy. If you don't have experience flying for 6 hours or more, you may struggle with this one. As for the wing, this route is perfectly doable on a high EN-B. On a low EN-B, you'd need a good day for that (higher cloud base, less wind).
