Thank you kindly. I come here often because I want the raw talent in Sydney from PJ Harvey-good music whether it is heard forever ago or you just grasp some from a couple of decades ago, and wonder where have I been to miss this band! Time to catch up and thank goodness for the internet. Maybe we can converse once again on here without the Gestapo threats.

No - I don't think so. Her songs aren't catchy enough, nor was she sufficiently innovative. She has a couple that are strong - Sheela na Gig, Grow Grow Grow and a few others. But she didn't break new ground in the way Pixies did, nor did she pen unforgettable melodies like Nirvana.

@@joeporter4920 There are tens of thousands of bands with some brilliantly catchy songs that never made the mainstream. Husker Du, Dino Jnr, Sparklehorse, Teenage Wrist, etc. etc. In the real world it's far more to do with production and budget. A relatively bland song that's "well-produced" is more likely to get air play and commercial success than a song with a gorgeous melody but ramshackle studio treatment.

mic technique 101!! If you are coaching a vocalist explain the dynamics and the effect it will have and then ask them to think of the microphone as a little "being" that they are singing to, such as a bunny that they love or the person they want to get their emotion across to. Up close in the ear and intimate or step back and shout at the bastard!! They get it and then they practice having fun with it knowing how it will sound in the product! Pete, your's is the first I've ever seen anyone mention this....singers take note!!

I missed seeing Polly in the 90s but caught her in the 2000s, been a fan of her since the Peel days. She is just an insanely talented artist. Covers all genres. A pure polymath on composition, lyrics, production and instruments. Her evolution as an artist with her different 'personas' is a pure joy to follow. Caught her on the Stories from the City tour and then later on the Hope six tour. An absolute tour de force. Her talent just pisses over many other artists.

I saw her at the Paladium in LA in the ‘90s. Lost the contents of my purse including the keys to my stepmother’s car I borrowed that night while stage diving. Shoot. Couldn’t find them after the show. Oh, & a band (with an annoying hit ‘Creep’) called Radiohead opened for her.

A great name for a cat 😺. My own cat is called "Fat Cat" or "Fatty". His name actually caused a fall out with a previous next door neighbour. Late one evening fatty was sitting on my driveway, I called out "Fatty get into the house" not realising the neighbours wife was standing in her driveway within earshot.. Oops😇

Celebrating 30 years as a fan this year. Copied her 'Desire' album to a cassette, brought it to a festival in Oslo (Kalvøya) summer of '92 (where Nirvana performed, Kurt got pissed 'cause one in the audience managed to hit him in his face with a toothbrush😅), and sure did I play that cassette to shreds!!
