Thank you, for your continued support and kind words. Yes I have some time invested in my frame jig but if it can be used multiple times with great results even better. Imagine the time saved and number of birds back on the road. Makes investing the time to assemble it even more worth while.
Absolutely awesome video - love how you showed and explained the procedure! I learn something every time you make a video showing a major repair, thank you!
This was a great video. I think that this process could be used on any unibody car! I already watched you use the jig on another one of your videos. I can see how it saves time and eliminates errors. Excellent job!
Absolutely could be made for any car, I figured I would be doing several rear frame rails and saw this as a way to expedite getting them located. I have done several without a jig but the time spent getting it right was like forever. Jig cuts the time way down especially if you plan to use it more then once
always looking ahead from things from behind you sir have it going on im glad i found you thru Brian i don’t seem to get to see him lately but you i really look forward to see you soon
Cool! Finally got a break in the cold weather so I should be cranking out some more videos soon. Interesting fun fact a have a good friend named mike O’Neal. Known him for years I know it’s not spelled exactly the same but kinda neat.
Perfect, that’s the goal of the channel share what I have learned over the last 25 years. Some of it the hard way, so if I can save your some grief is the plan.
ty very much for this vid I am getting set to put new frame rails in my 68 Z the drivers side rear frame rail is literally gone, so no point of reference there. this will be a good project till my parts get here BTW shipping seems to go up daily, I ordered frame rails, trunk pan, both rockers, hood and trunk lid, almost 900 shipping to mich. you have a great channel here very informative and friendly this Z I have owned for 40 plus years and it has sat for 30 plus some. now that I am retired it is time. I was a diesel mech for longer than I will admit and have repaired many frames put together sale trucks etc but autos are definitely a challenge :)
That’s a great retirement project. Well earned too it sounds. Good luck on your build and if I can help dont hesitate to ask. Hopefully shipping doesn’t keep going up I will have to find an alternative way to build these cars
@@VinylVillageGarage right after I wrote that note I received an email from classic industries and everything I ordered and paid for was temporarily out of stock, I called and asked why they took my money and then told me lol so I cancelled my order and once again shopping
That’s not cool. I need to order my interior kit now, that way in 3-4 months when I need it I might have it. I know it took 4 months To Get my frame rails for the great pumpkin AMD had them in stock but cost me more for the parts.
Very cool, I am sure it will come in very handy. I consider myself super lucky in this respect with my '69 Camaro since my Dad got it when he was 19 years old and somehow it is still straight as an arrow. You know a 19 year old in 1969 with a brand new big block Camaro was ripping around in that thing but miraculously it has zero body or frame damage. His best friend got a '69 Trans Am and though my father never admitted it his friend told me about how they used to race each other.
This brings up a good concern here on the Condition of inside of rails, we cannot see there until we use a "horoscope" camera now available to look at it. And this would include the from frame assembly. So this, I think is a valid reason too get one and Now look these areas over and verify its condition if it's good or if it's Scaled up ~ rusted and should be repaired / replaced. I think it breeds More work, yet these cars are well worth the extra $ and effort.
@@VinylVillageGarage clearly it's needed... as from what I can tell the available replacement panels aren't very close to originals and need a decent amount of work.
Thanks the jig is something new for me so far I really like it. Now to align the rear of the car to the front is still the same. I use plumb bob from the firewall mounts to the front hole on the frame rails where the leaf spring mount bolt is. Measure front to back and then diagonally. If it’s within 1/8” let her go is how I have done it even before the jig. I really struggled with getting the rear frame rails in a position that I liked and would burn up several hours and still not love it. This jig I assembled the rails and trunk floor in under two hours and it would have taken me 6-8 before.
Great vid! hey when are you going to go through the parts list and prices? Would love to hear your prediction on the total expected cost and we can see how close you get!
I will be adding it in a future video soon. Had to order a few parts from other suppliers, it’s messing with my totals. But my gut estimate was 24k when I bid the job a year ago. We have had some inflation and I found a couple surprises so far. I am still thinking it should be close to that. To get you an idea of the level of finished product if you haven’t seen the Transmaroado/trans am clone we did check it out it should be as nice or better when done. So this isn’t just knock the rough off this is a complete overhaul and refurb.
Great video.I was wondering if you tried it for 67 convertible . Would be great to get the specs to build one I would ask to try it but I'm in Quebec Canada 😢
Wish I had it to give the dimension, I have collected material to fabricate a new one once I get a car to build it from. This time I will not loan it out. You can still install rails and get them done without a jig. Plumb bobs and lots of measurements. It’s how I did them before it just takes little more time.
I really would like to because it is a super helpful tool but Not sure I can get accurate measurements to make it so that It can be translated to be jig that will work for you. I tried to use factory spec books and measurements to make one prior to this and never felt confident it was right. That was why when I had this car it was the perfect opportunity to build it directly off know good locations. With that said it’s best to make one from a known good car, I know easier said then done.
Awesome jig! need this for my 69. crazy question... I'm in Cleveland area 300miles from Indy. instead of me borrowing your jig would you do the set up and welding on a new floor and rails if I get them to you? I'd gladly pay for your time and labor.
Thanks! and the answer is yes I could see doing that to help you out for sure. Shipping will be a bit costly so with that in mind you might do some checking there is someplace that offers a complete trunk floor with rails already attached from what I remember not for much more money then just buying the parts.
@@VinylVillageGarage oh wow I will look into the the full rail/pan assembly first! If I can't get it I would be totally cool with scheduling a drive to Indy with rails and pan on a day when you were available to assemble
@@VinylVillageGarage ok so I haven't actually gotten a good look under the car for awhile. it was a georgia car for 90% of its mileage. the rails do need replaced and front driver floor and rear passenger floor. is it possible to remove the frame rails from the existing original trunk pan? Without destroying the floor. or is it best to just do the rails with a new trunk pan?
Absolutely you can remove the rails and reuse the trunk floor, actually that is even better if you can. You won’t have to mess with fender well damage or trunk floor alignment issues or even better you will not have to remove the tail panel. Yes definitely if the rails are the only bad parts go that way for sure. A handful of good drill bits and a couple orange mountain dews and a few days of playing cars those rails can be removed.
More i watch your channel, more i admire your work. !
Thank you!! I try to apply work smarter not harder to what I do. Then share it.
