I will argue this until my dying breath.... The Faulconer score brought something to DBZ that the original OST couldn't. Even thought its been over 20 years, it still holds up and the phenomenal rescore you've done with this and countless others proves it. Keep it up, man!!! love that shit!
That choir at 0:50 is now canon music, in my opinion. The emotion in that tone you built there was one of righteousness and justice, not simply getting angry. That was the musical personification of destiny, seemingly divine, being realized. Then that metal guitar comes in and shows that FAFO has entered the chat. It's like bringing the divinity elements from DBS back in time to this moment. This is when he started to become a sort of Angel of Justice and Retribution (when I wrote this I seriously didn't even consider the Judas Priest album "Angel of Retribution").
Ahh man I really love how you pointed out the divinity elements from DBS. DBS had been around for a while when I started making these covers, so the soundtrack definitely influenced me when making these covers. I wanted to know what it would sound like if they used this music in a modern anime like DBS. As for the choir, that was always my favorite part from SSJ Transformation, thank for sharing your thoughts ☺️🙏
@@GladiusThemes Genuinely, my pleasure (I've played this a dozen times since I came across it). You enhanced the choral element to where it always should have been. It was much more muted in the original. You kept the base theme and enhanced the meaningful (as in what was happening in this scene) elements. Amazing work.
Whether you saw this back in '91 on Fuji TV or in 1999 on Cartoon Network the scene was epic but both scenes were played differently and felt differently because the Japanese version was more horror centric while the American broadcast went with the superman approach.
This is incredible. The rising tension in the music is grand. 0:00 First we get a sense of dread as Frieza is toying with them by killing them one by one. 0:10 But, there’s still hope, just in small bursts as Goku is becoming enraged at the death of Krillin and possibly of everyone he loves. 0:28 Then, the music takes a mystic, almost godlike tone as Namek starts falling to the whim of Goku, until he surges. 1:13 Then, The lead guitar come in to show that its no longer just the power of a god, but the rage of one, as Goku starts surging more violently with SSJ power until he explodes, much to Frieza’s horror. 1:34 Then, all the buildup gets released Goku, now with Golden Hair and Emerald Green Eyes, is surrounded by a mysterious golden aura. The Super Saiyan has finally awoken to punish Frieza for the terrible sins he has committed. The tiny flame has erupted into a raging wildfire. 2:09 But it’s not done as it still builds up with more power and speed as we prepare for the grand showdown between the golden Hero, and the tyrannical, powerful Villain, but it all ends in a powerful cliffhanger, instead of that weird ditty that takes away from the moment. Truly incredible.
When all hope seems lost, A shadow of death, chaos and destruction in their wake, A prophecy stirs, stories of old thought to be as merely a fairytale, A warrior of unimaginable power, The saiyan of legend returns
this original track (and many many others in Ginyu/Frieza Sagas) was written and composed by Michael Llyod Smith (Mike Smith) who worked at Faulconer Productions from 1999-2003.
Brilliant work! This brings back so many memories. Honestly I don't think I've heard a better cover to this! I love how it's in 7/8 time signature too, and how it transitions to 4/4 at the climax.
Thank you again! Right, I didn’t even realise it was 7/8 until I start to recreate it. It’s like it’s hanging on all the tension until it eventually breaks when it goes 4/4. Something similar happens in the Vegeta SSJ theme too with the time signature. Interesting stuff!
@@GladiusThemes Vegeta's SSJ theme is a pain to count for! It sounds like it alternates between 5/8 and 4/4. Is that right? Also, if I remember correctly, Mike wrote the theme by speeding up and reversing the original piano melody he came up with for it.
I didn't think anything in anime could hit harder than this scene with the original Faulconer score but then this happened... I don't know how, but something about the rescore hits harder than the original ever did, and that's saying something
You’re welcome!! I don’t know how Mike Smith came up with the original, it’s so good ☺️ I loved recreating it, the piece has always meant a lot to me growing up.

Akira Toriyama ❤ this takes me back to when I was a teenager and we were eagerly watching this debut for the first time ever dubbed in English 😢 what a time to be alive
Reason why Goku took this seriously was cause this was Krillin's second death and Goku knew that a person who died twice can't be wish back by Shenron which is why the anger combined with strength eventually turns Goku into a Super Saiyan so to give Frieza the fight he wants.
Honestly i think the “YOU RUTHLESS HEARTLESS BASTARD” and “I WILL MAKE YOU SUFFER” and the voice crack at the end is better than the “YOU WON’T GET AWAY WITH THIS”
That’s a great compliment coming from a fan of the original score seeing as they are such different tastes. I’m glad I could make it enjoyable for you ☺️
imo the only heroic transformation in DB that was invented purely by the storyteller without any other commercial motives. imo Gohan going SS2 was a reflection of fans and Akira wanting Gohan to be the cool new hero. The Buu arc showed us a lot of fun transformations/fusions but they had little impact outside of the exact transformation moments,
In the one dub he says in English the original line. How dare you! Over and over angrier each time. You could feel the hate in his words. The need for revenge. For those few seconds frieza saw real malice forming in front of him.
i don’t think people quite get why this moment matters even if you know it through memes or have seen the manga/anime this moment was the peak of what we knew of goku at the time, going beyond all limits to unlock a form no one had seen in a thousand years, many have probably tried and never succeeded, of course dragon ball and DBZ have many great moments but there’s just something super unique in this first transformation
The scary part is that frieza couldn’t sense energy, so when goku transforms he’s doesn’t know what happened to him. It makes sense why frieza asks goku what is he.
What's so cool about this is that Frieza cannot sense energy. He has no way of knowing how astronomical a power boost Super Saiyan is but when Goku gives him that look of SHEER HATRED the Galactic Emperor shits himself because he knows that he's about to be outmatched by an enraged Saiyan warrior.
And this is why the falconer score will always be leagues better than OG. As horrible as funi is as a company and the behavior of the VAs. They hit a gem with this score
@@nerdtom4513 personally I like the ssj2 Gohan transformation better because I was about that age when I first saw it and it seemed very empowering. It resonated with me and has ever since. The buildup was more intense and there was more at stake. Everyone had high expectations of a child who didn’t believe in himself until he snapped. Best transformation in all dragon ball hands down.
