From what little I was able to find on the interwebs is that the 6.5L "detuned" was a direct replacement for the 6.2L. The power was supposedly turned down to avoid damaging drivetrain components like the 3 speed transmission. I believe the HMMWV's that officially came with the 6.5 and 4 speed were not detuned and have the slightly higher output. I have a 1990 m998 that got a 6.5 in 2005 at MMA. I plan to do this mod soon. Maybe turn it up just until I see black smoke :)
That was the closest thing I could think of tbh. Stock for stock (plus the turned up pump) I would say the acceleration feels about the same. I wish I could say it felt as good as the 4.0 Wrangler but I own one and even though it has 35 inch tires it is way quicker than my Humvee lol.
Thanks for the truth about turning up the pump.. My pump has seen better days. So i will be having it rebuilt by Pensacola Diesel soon... I will be talking to them about turning it up slightly...As we here at FULLFORCE MARINE use our Humvee in our work.. Our Humvee is called into duty often...
@HotrodSerch it's affect haha but I would say top end is basically the same. I don't floor the thing often anyways but I think the biggest difference felt was the torque going up hills not having the transmission constantly downshift and pull high RPMs
I did this mod just like you did with 1/8 turn and I’m getting a slight hint of black smoke when the pedal is down to the floor is yours doing this too?
@garageobsession2421 I would call mine more than a slight hint lol. If I'm going up a big hill with the pedal down it will pour out a decent amount. Nothing like a 12 valve Cummins but enough for the cars behind me to notice it. If yours is just a slight hint I probably wouldn't worry about it but you could always put in an EGT guage just to be sure.

Thanks for the video! It's interesting to hear the 2.5L jeep engine comparison

Dude no way you're here😂 I've been subbed for like 8 years. You thinking about getting a humvee?

I did not know this so I'm glad you made this video. I'm going to try this on mine.

Placebo effect lol
Hey I heard that you can do this but never seen anyone do it so thanks!!
Did you need the hard top windshield or can a soft top windshield work for your hard top?
Did the “tune” affect your top end at all?
Or is it effect 🤔

Can you do this on 6.2?
