KINGSLIM D4 Dual Dash Cam - Demo Footage & Review

- In this video, I unbox, demo, and review a dash cam offering from Kingslim. The Kingslim model D4 is a dual dash cam kit containing both front and rear cameras.
Top features besides dual cam functionality include a 3" touchscreen display, WiFi app, GPS, 4K front cam, PC Viewer software, and up to 256GB micro SD card capacity.
Compared to higher prices dash cams, things missing in this system would be less advanced parking monitoring functions, no Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS), remote monitoring via a cellular cloud connection, or Speed/Red light camera alerts.
However, I find the D4 decent value for a budget dashcam with sale pricing in the low hundred dollar range. It produces quality video footage in an easy-to-use package.

We had no issues this summer with the heat at all and it shutting down. However I do put a window shade in the front window most times when I get out of the truck to give it and the truck some protection.
We have this camera and have been using it for about a year and have been really happy with it. Thanks for the review.- Kyle
Good to hear. It's not too hot out right now, so hard to test. How has it been in the summer heat? Has it ever shut off from getting too hot. People that live in hot climates are always interested to know. Cheers, Ray
Great info...Timely review for me. I get to pick out my X-Mas gift this year and would like to get a dash cam. Just so many of them out there. Being an advanced amateur photo guy I learned the hard way that you end up paying 2x if you buy a cheap camera / lens first & then go buy the good one soon after being disappointed. I'd like to get a pretty good one up front.
Pretty well all the dash cams are using the same Sony Starvis brand lenses I find. I think where the differences are in how well they do the image processing. Some have better software and processing chips than others for things like auto exposure, color balance, low light conditions, etc. Kind of like how smartphone cameras are now. Lens are limited by size so they enhance with software image processing.
One tip is to make sure to not cheap out on the micro SD card. Since the dash cam is constantly writing to it and overwriting it. It's worth it to get a good one or the dash cam can be glitchy. Sometimes people will blame the dash cam buts its the SD card at fault. Often the manuals will recommend the specs needed for the card. I find the SanDisk brand is pretty good. Can you record continuously even when the car is parked? Or record for 5 minutes and stop? Would you like to clarify this for its importance?
You would need to have power to the camera all the time. Best to use an external battery or you would run down the car battery. Or you can get the parking power module amzn.to/42wqOfh
Personally though I prefer the Thinkware or BlackVue dash cams if you are interested in extended parking surveillance. They can do time-lapse and motion sensing as well as the G force sensor.

Curious how to connect to WiFi at accident scene or do remove memory card for playback

My corba dash cam has a button next to the screen to quickly save videos of things I see that I want to save
You touch the little lock icon on the touch screen to save a video clip or swipe right to take a photo

Nice info. My parking spot at home is out of wifi range. How will I be able to transfer videos to my phone. I have to detach the Dashcam and take it inside house to use the wifi feature? Is it easy to detach?

What software version do you have to get the 5 minute loop recording? Mine only has 1,2, and 3 minutes. I’ve been trying to contact the people at Kingslim for over a month to get the version that has the 5 minute option with them sending the wrong one twice now…. It’s been infuriating. I’d really appreciate it if you mentioned where you got yours from and what software version you’re on. Thanks
Sorry, I don't have the cam anymore to check the version. Accidentally fried it. It was sent to me from Akaso. Maybe format try a different micro SD card and update the firmware kingslim.net/pages/firmware-downloads
@@LoveYourRV How do you update the firmware of something that can't access the internet or be plugged into a computer? I formated the SD card, reset the system, and talked back and forth with Kingslim forever without a solution.

Step - 3
Create the Updated Media
Download the Updates from the website.
Decompress the downloaded files.
Copy the decompressed files above to the memory card.
NOTE: You won’t be able to open this file on your PC.
Step - 4
Update the Program
Reinsert the memory card with firmware in the camera.
Device will start to update automatically about 2mins to finish process of updating.
Then format your memory card after updating.
@@LoveYourRV So basically updates are transfered to the device through the memory card? That's news to me. Only issue is, I think I'm already on the current software version. The version I have is KingslimD4-20220818-1.10. The one I believe the 5 minute option is on is an earlier version. Which makes me think they got rid of it in the update.
I tried your method of downloading an older version of the software to the sd card, and followed the intrustions to a tee. But it still doesn't work. I know for sure the issue is because I have the newest version and I need to revert back to the old one to have the 5 minute option.... It's a real pain not having it there

If the 3-minute option is selected, the recorder will save the video file every 3 minutes. When
the memory card is full, the new video files will overwrite the old ones. If this function is turned
off, the recorder will not be able to record when the memory card is full, so you need to format
the memory card or replace it with a new one.

Is it possible to buy a Dashcam that runs off a batter and does not have to draw power from the car/truck?
Many dashcams sell an optional hardwired kit you can use any 12V or sometimes 24V source. Here is a link to the Kingslim one amzn.to/3Xi1Jlu I have some Thinkware dashcams install in my truck with hardwire kits and actually built myself a separate battery with solar charging setup to allow me to have the cameras parking surveillance active 24/7 when parked. What about the sun's heat and the high temperature of the windshield of the car when recording continuously while the car is closed and parked? Are there problems due to the strong heat ?????????????????
I've personally not had any problems but don't live in high heat areas. Usually the max temps I see is about 90F outside.

How are your videos so clear? Mines are not that clear. I cannot even see the license plate numbers if the other car is 5 feet in front of my car.
I don't know. That is the video footage I copied off the micro SD card, Maybe yours has a bad lens.

I've found all dashcams get really warm and I've tried quite a few.
