    It's the best router I've ever owned, love the ergonomics and precision, the speed of adding/ removing the guide bush is another USP. For rail work I found the foot way too fiddly so I made a sub-base out of 5mm Perspex which screws on (2 M6 holes in the base) and covers the outer half of the base plate; no tippy now and doesn't drop into grooves. I've just taken delivery of the 2200 but not used it yet.

    These things are unicorns right now!! Been looking for one for about 8 months… they’re slowly replenishing and I FINALLY placed my order about 15 minutes ago. Snagged the last one off Amazon, fulfilled by a company in the Midwest!
    So excited for it to arrive, best brand on the market and this may possibly be the best router!
    Thanks so much for the video! Super helpful to know some of the little tricks and features so I can jump right in when my shipment arrives!

    Awesome! I’m doing research on this because I’ve had my eyes on it for years now. Hence the reason I ended up here. I already own quite a few Festool tools and dust extractor. Just received delivery of an RO150 yesterday. My lates purchase.

    Also when you set up the router on the track try to have the router base on the work piece and not on the track. That gives you a lot more control when using the track.

    Great review on this router. I have a Dewalt cordless and considering a dust collector for it OR just purchasing this one. I own 2 Festool sanders and love them.

  • @alancroft6928

    I used the Festool 493233 Table Widener OF 1400 base on the router when using it on the track. It takes away the need to put that little guide on to keep it level with the track. Take a look at the Festool 493233 Table Widener OF 1400 it’s about $99.00. Fantastic piece of kit.

    Will this work with a lock jig ? Is the plunge enough ?

  • @ron1martens
    @ron1martens ปีที่แล้ว

    I bought this router more than a decade. Yes, it is a very fine router. I have used the track to run through dovetail, bullnoses and a whole lot of other work. I was thinking of purchasing the festool dovetail jig. I already have a number of dovetail jigs including the leighs dovetail jig. The only thing with the leighs using the festool. on through dovetails the base of the festool is a little small when having bigger gaps on your joints. the leighs dovetail jig I bought did not have an end support which may alleviate some of the problems I came up with. Hence its been a long time since I last used the leighs dovetail jig as I have been lazy and just screwed cabinetry together.

    • @hammerandhome
      @hammerandhome  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I’ve always wanted to try making drawers with dovetails. I may have to check out that festool jig. Time is definitely always the issue. Thanks for sharing your experience
      Cheers

      @@hammerandhome Thnaks Brad. Where I live the festool router jig cost around $1,000 au. The templates for different shapes costs around $300 each. For repetitive jointing operations I think it will be more efficient than the leighs. Although peoplle using the leighs will argue this as they say the leihs is more versatile. My argument is well yes that may be the case however, The festool will be quicker and easier to set up to do repetitive joints. Also you need adapters for the collett in the leighs as the shaft is a different size to the quarter and half inch which goes into the router. On the through dovetail I found out the hard way I used the through dovetail for half blind joints which always came out loose. Thats because I did not read the instructions well enough. Half blind on the leighs use a 10 degree dovetail. the through dovetail uses 8 degree. Ha ha. I was using the 8 degree on the half blind.

    Noticed you configured your mft3 upside down (at least according to festools instructions). You like it better that way? What are the benefits? Won't you run into rail? I have an mft3 and am always open to "better ways"

    I think you placed it correctly on the track the first time. If you cover both ridges on the rail, you can’t use the micro adjust knob, can you?

    • @hammerandhome
      @hammerandhome  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      thats true, when its on both tracks it feels better but you loose the adjustment, on one track you can adjust. good catch

    Unquestionably a well engineered router, but one major flaw for quality woodworking. The bit cannot be centered in a guide bushing and Festool admits this defect stating that they opted for production in lieu of precision. Due to this defect, I'm currently searching for a substitute plunge router that enables centering in a guide bushing. I own a dozen or so Festool products, but while I have no regrets for the other purchases, this one I do.

    Bosch is 1600 watts and half the price. I have festool tools. Bosch is the best router. The ratchet bit change on festool routers is awesome though. Still going to get an OF 1400 so I can use it on my tracks/MFT/3, it is worth the addition to the shop. The Bosch big boy plunge router is a monster with excellent engineering I would like to see added to a Festool router, though. Bit change on it is not as nice as Festool ratchets, though.

    You might find there is very slight play in the guide bushes .. if your cutting a worktop mitre on a jig it will produce a slight wave on the edges . Thats not so good on finishing work for a machine at what you might call top of the range !

    • @darrinmc
      @darrinmc 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      The one I saw at a Woodcraft recently was made in Germany. This is most likely one of the reasons why it's so expensive.

    • @steppedon
      @steppedon 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      All Festool tools are engineered and made in Germany. That's where a lot of the premium comes from.

    work with it, and I am sold on Festool. "Toolpros" carries this router as you show it for 649.00
